The way you structure solos so lyrically and effortlessly is incredible.
@Musica Fidelitas you won't.. stop trying
Effortlessly is relative.
Away from me to say anything bad about Chris skills, but he tries a lot of takes as anyone else.
His inspiration for leads and solos is Sam Cooke's vocals and phrasing
D. Gilmore also came to my mind...
how do you know he doesn't put effort into his solos tho? it's not a bad thing to put effort into something..
I would pay damn good money to see Derek Trucks and Chris Buck jam.
Their powers would probably combine and bring on the apocalypse..... Can't happen.
@@TheTacticalButterknife Don't combine the streams! 😉
That’s good because tickets to see ttb right now are outrageously expensive
-and @JeffBeck, and @TomJones, and @IanPaice!
As always, I get goosebumps from every amazing solo you do. Congrats on getting that amazing ES355 - thanks for sharing it with us. Hope to hear tons more of it soon.
Friday is my favourite day. Thank you for fantastic sounds Chris, always a joy to listen to you.
You present so well. Always informative and entertaining. I always looks forward to these Saturday mornings after a busy week.
As smooth as it gets!! Good work!!!
Such a warm and beautiful tone! Nicely done.
That intro was intense! Brilliant playing.
Absolutely magical. I think this may be the first time I liked the outro better than the play in. As always, fantastic.
Mate, I cannot play a note, but I could listen to you play and talk guitar for hours. Cheers
Amazing as always.
Of all the styles on YT,....I love yours the most Chris. So chewy. So articulate. Extremely organic. Absolute mastery of the guitar. Beautiful mate.
Very enjoyable and informative. Always a pleasure!
I'm always gobsmacked listening to you play. Cheers with thanks.
Chris Buck's channel is one of those where you subscribe 9 seconds into your first video. Been watching a few years now and have learned so much. Legend
Congratulations! I’m very happy for you both , it’s in good hands . I wish you many happy years together.
She's a beauty!! Thank you for showing us the gear you are using, too. It's much appreciated here!
Best demo of variations switch I’ve heard. Thanks!
Fun episode, cool new guitar. Super playing as always, Chris. Looking forward to the new song!
The fact that you played the solo you'd played first with your vintage strat tells me this is a special guitar for you! Looks gorgeous 😍
Your playing this week was absolutely stunning.
Outstanding playing & tone!
Everyone else watching the friends reunion while I’m out here binging all Chris’s videos definitely think I’ve chosen the better option
Having suffered through having to watch it the first time I know you did.
Why even bring the fiends reunion up? It has absolutely nothing to do with guitars.
New Cardinal Black single next week by the sounds? Can't wait!!
Very nice outro jam I particularly enjoyed that one
That intro jam was smokin'! 👏
Great playing as always! Mind blowing even
You have great taste in guitars, Chris. Also, that intro and out-tro was excellent 👌
Wow that piece at the end is huge. Great guitar in your hands.
"Isn't she so pretty" How many of us have fell for that one before.
Just want to take a mooment to appreciate your video format. Nice info and well presented (and it shows you do your research on each week's topic), and on the (probably main) reason most of us are here, those JAMS, not just your excellent playing but the camera work, static shot, no frills, it really helps follow those magic finger movements. Cheers!
Damn ladders
Well said!👍
Damn! That thing is cool! That switch is so cool, every position sounded great! I am surprised it's not used anymore. Lovely playing as always. That Laney amp sounds killer :)
That outro solo, love it.
The intro jam was so good!
Wow man.,love the Friday vids
Awesome playing as always. Didn't know about that guitar, interesting! Looking forward to some news about The Cardinal Black!
That is one beautiful guitar, congrats on finding it. Definitely has some magic in there
I WAS wondering !!!! And I too have had that fight 😁
Another great video! Love your playing style!
That is a beautiful guitar Chris.
Congrats on your new guitar.
That guitar is incredible. I am in love, and that outro song was so good. Hoping that might be a new track for CB!
Amazing guitar playing 👍👍✌️✌️
Love a Varitone! Recently put one in my SG. Super versatile. Great playing, Chris!
Loving that equipment reveal. Thanks!@
Honestly one of my top favourite guitarists, keep up the great work man! i look up to you as a guitarist so much and i’ll never stop learning from the way you play🙂. Should rematch that ladder, you might win next time😂
Tasty intro Chris.
That is a gorgeous instrument. Stunning in black.
Outrageously good playing 😎
Fascinating Buckmaster. Absolutely fascinating. And symphonic soloing. Da iawn.👍👏🎸
wicked playing!!!
Been waiting all day for Friday fretworks. Thanks Chris, this is my go to channel when cooking dinner in the kitchen :)
Ha! I've been waiting since Tuesday afternoon.
@@glennwhitlock1272 you win sir 🙌🏻
Came for the intro jam, never disappointed
Love the intro
just lovely
Cool that you got one for yourself! Nice vid ✌️
Cheers Chris that was great
That opening, wow fxxx yes !
Nice feels dude!
WOW... You have one of #150. I envy you.
FYI:
1) It is said that Dave participated in the design of this guitar and Ubu gave him one of his signature as a gift. (Yeah... probably the one Dave crushed in that music video.)
2) In Japan and South Korea, when people think about 'punk rock' or 'alternative rock' or 'playing rock with semi-hollow body guitar', usually Ubukata is the one who comes first. Ubukata is called as 'Mr. 355' in Japan. In the early days of Ellegarden, Ubu used Epiphone Riviera and then Gibson 335(cherry), again Gibson 335(black), and Gibson 355(black).
3) There were so many Japanese fans who wanted Ubu's signature in Epiphone version, so Gibson Japan released Epiphone version of this guitar in Feb 2020. Officially limited only in Japan, but you can find Epi Ubu 355 in eBay. It has Gibson 57 classic pick up set and ebony fingerboard, pretty nice.
I have one. 😎 The Inspired by Gibson Epiphone version, that is. Nice build for the money. 👍🏻🎸🖖🏻
@@srwaite7You mean ver.2 right? Congratulations!🎉 I also purchased ver.2 in cherry finish and it's much better than Ver.1! Pickup position went back from neckside to bridgeside like other Gibson hollowbody guitars! Also guess what! I finally got this Gibson signature too! My Gibson one is 103/150❤ Both Gibson and Epiphone signature are very good😊
Superb, Chris. I never listen to sawtooth distortion (always preferring the clean, fat sound), but the edge of your sawtooth tone is very caressing to me having a roundness to the wave, with no listening fatigue, which I'm very sensitive to. This, combined with your superb style, and technique: this one's a keeper, brother.
I like the effects produced by that varitone switch. I'm kind of surprised that circuit didn't catch on. It really gives you nuanced control of your tone, and they all sound magic!
Some people are great at playing guitar. Some people are great at making music. Chris is great at both.
Awesome sounds Chris buddy! ,,,, the Shinichi into the Blackbird into the Laney ... see what you did there brother
Dude ! I love shinichi ubukata ! His band ELLEGARDEN and nothing carved in stone got me through my teens. Dudes a legend
Very rich sounds from this guitar, and I agree to its abundance of beauty.
Gonna end up famous Chris, well done, new tunes is very good, lots of likes from across the pond tae on my fb share.
can you do a guitar collection soon? would be awesome to see the collection you've gathered through your years of playing
Wow Chris!!! That’s one of your best!! And that’s saying something!
The best "new" guitarist for decades!
HUGE Ubukata fan here. Been following him since the mid-2000s when he was in Ellegarden. I saw what was allegedly the LAST Ubukata signature in the whole of the EU at Sixty Sixty Sounds in Denmark Street around 2018 but didn't have the money at the time. The guys at the store were quite puzzled that I even knew who he was (I suppose given we're nowhere near Japan)
By the time I was able to afford it, the neck somehow warped and the store had to return it. How did you manage to get your hands on this?
my heart sunk when i saw dave smashing up that gibson 😭
I have no time for smashing up guitars. None what so ever.
@@multipipi1234 He's a 'rock star', why not give someone a guitar when you can just destroy it :).
its just dumb and irresponsible in this day and age.... a waste of resources and now going to a landfill. he could have donated it for a good cause !
@@YesItsReallyKeith pretty sure he’ll sell the broken guitar to a collector for a good amount of money
Grohl plays to the gallery and panders lamf. Plastic hippie.
The lick at 2:17 gave me Comfortably Numb Pulse Solo flashbacks. If you know, you know.
Great playing and amazing guitar. Didn’t know this one existed. Just picked up an Epiphone Emily Wolfe Sheraton which is basically the 335 version of what you’re playing. Super great guitar. Cheers.
Inspirational
Ellegarden is a name I haven't heard in a while. Surprised to see they're as popular as they are in their native Japan. Cool!
I'm still huge on ELLEGARDEN (they're performing again btw). His more recent "Nothing's Carved in Stone" work has some really good stuff too.
@@Mediaright agreed ,I love his work in NCIS. Especially the first couple albums from them. Also new ELLEGARDEN album was announced not to long ago. Super excited!
Luckily the ladder didn't get your fingers, I would have missed today's treat with two awesome solo's with your signature. Looking forward for the next song from the Cardinal Black next week, the first still resonates in my head.
I was humming part of the solo this week and was like, yeah, that’s a good solo if I am humming it after hearing it maybe 3 times.
Varitone position 6 is the best because it comes with an extra flurry of notes!
There’s also an inductor in the Vari-Tone circuit. It’s the notch part of the notch filter.
excellent chops there Chris,...... wow ! - and next video is why there is one less ladder on the planet ? lol
Damn... that guitar sounds KILLAH in your hands! 😎🎸🤘
My favorite guitar that I've owned (after Strats) was an ES345 that to this day i kick myself for selling. The ebony fretboard was key to that guitar, the added top end presence really opened it up. I remember thinking the stereo outputs were a waste, but the first time i ran the bridge pickup through an OD and the neck clean i loved it. I like the outputs so much that I've cut up 3 or 4 guitars I've owned since and converted them. Modulation, wahs, volume pedals, octave dividers, etc; what you can do running the pickups through different effects from each other is addictive.
Chris, we can't know for sure who won the fight until we see what shape the ladder is in. My guess is, it's pretty banged up! ;-)
Was it a Ladder in stockings is the unstated part ... ??? 😂
A few years back gibson released a black 345 with nickel hardware, bigsby and mono varitone. Broke my heart that I didn't get one.
ermagerd! darv grool is so kewl! (sweet lickage btw. sounds great man!)
It sounds bloody fantastic. Position 1 is out of this world
Very cool video and interesting information on this guitar, but honestly, your playing is so amazing that you could be playing the worst piece of junk and still sound fantastic!
I like that a heck of a lot better than the Firebird-headstock versions he usually plays. Love the diamond soundholes.
I was in cloud nine at 2:41 when suddenly a commercial came out. No way...
Your videos are good, but go to bed knowing that many of us are here for your playing, and that is something that most you tubers cannot say.
Ah! nice to see what's your amp setup!
Man oh man, position 1 was very BB King!
I know everyone gets hot and bothered about Chris’s solo phrasing. The the timing of the ‘and lost’ in the ladder gag was just spot on...! 🤣
Chris man, I do wonder how you get so much sustain when playing a relatively clean sound?
Is it a couple of stacked OD/boost pedals with low gain, retaining some signal integrity? Is parallel OD?
Would love to see a video on how you achieve the level of sustain you do. You're control is mind blowing. It gives such a different flavour when you can get away with sliding and hammering along a run. You are unique in your ability to do that effortlessly I believe, I've been trying for a good year now, focusing on sustain and achieving dynamics with less dirt.
Lovely stuff as ever man 🙏
In case he doesn’t answer, my thoughts are using a Cali76 compressor (keeps lots of bass and doesn’t sound awful like many compressors) and gain stacking (find what combo makes your amp and guitar sing). Oh and get it good and loud. I can’t get sustain quiet like I can at 95-100 db (put in the ear buds so your ears don’t ring like mine do).
If you’re a software emulator guy, Go way back and watch his episode way back on how he gets his tone in his software (whatever it is).
You call that a relatively Clean tone? That is over driven quite substantially, when compared to a truly clean tone, just saying
@@Deliquescentinsight not in this video, you are correct, but he doesn't answer old threads. No one does. It's certainly a very noticeable part of the beauty of his playing though, the level of sustain he achieves whilst retaining a clean tone. You're a genius above mentioned gain stacking and compression, which I think is the answer, along with his Extreme mastery of his hands.
One trick I can recommend to anyone, is putting a compressor in your amps FX loop; you get a lot of added sustain from that and it doesn't effect the touch sensitivity of your amp or pedals at all.
nice to see a Laney Cub head - I've been into small Laney valve heads for quite a while now. I'm running a TT20, which was the earlier version of this amp. Boutique valve amp sounds for not very much money at all.
God, Buck, but you do make that guitar sing ❤️❤️
I still wish you could make some music with the remaining members of The Grateful Dead...
All due to what a fascinating improviser you are!!! I'd come to that show no matter what!
The 11 people who gave a thumbs down probably complain about the service at a Chinese restaurant.
Hi Chris. Great stuff as ever. Have you checked out The Roland Blues Cube amp? Worth a look, if not...
You are such a fine player, I believe you could make a 2 bye 4 with one string sound impressive.
More new music?!!! 🤩
Chris, 3 things. 1 Thanks for showing your signal chain. 2. The one thing I wonder is, what ar eyou monitoring with? I assum not headphones or IEM's as I think I feel the guitar interacting with speakers. 3. I've never played a vari-tone equipped guitar and I wouldn't mind having one. Pretty handy tool!
