I disagree. The idea itself is probably a innocent good hearted one, but most modders will use it for not so innocent acts...ahem...rule 34... It will also effect servers to a huge amount. Imagine getting into a comp game with a modder that has infinite abilities, or worse, infinite health. That shit would ruin overwatch 2 forever. The better solution is updating the workshop for creators like this. Also, MR has modders and they are starting to do Rule 34 stuff.
@@BlazeD_7If you played TF2, then you’d know that shit never became an issue because the devs could make it so that mods only effect stuff like models or UI, which is was TF2 does and pretty much no one has an issue with it
Even as a veteran player I would LOVE to see this in game. The amount of times I would go to the overwatch wikia to just know how much X hero does now is insane. Well done, blizzard, please add.
"Call down a new mech, dealing damage to enemies it lands on." Though, I would say; call mech probably *shouldnt* say this. It'll make new players think they're supposed to be dealing damage with it, meanwhile the damage is just supposed to be a funny bonus
I wish they showed information like Paladins, it has 2 descriptions, a brief one and a long one, for example: Viktor (which is basically Soldier 76), has a brief one where it says "medium range automatic weapon that deals X amount of damage, fully effective until X units." Then a long one saying something like "medium range automatic rifle that shoots X amount of bullets per minute, does X amount of damage, fully effective until X units, max range of X units."
4:11 I would suggest an icon like 3 dots to indicate its click able /interact able Edit: A upside down arrow would be better, usually indicates drop down menu
Brother, you are a true hero and a very important person in the OW community. I truly hope your work gets added to the game one day and that you have all your hard work recognized and properly paid for!
This should absolutely be an addition to the game. When i was new i didnt know a lot of these stuff i had to learn by experiencing interaction over time like u said. It would be amazing for newer players to be able to see stats and info upon clicking since the ability description are shit and doesnt tell the full story
Hey Popcorp, I love your OW content. Its rare to see them these days that arent just game clips. There was this other UA-camr that did OW content that did this specific kind of video where he showcased a hero's animations. They were really nice to watch and makes you appreciate the art of the game, sadly they stopped making those videos and I was wondering if you could do something like that since you have a lot of passion for this game and editing videos for it.
This alongside lore and bios being able to be found _in-game_ would be fantastic. Deadlock managed to do it, so it should be no problem for Overwatch to do it too. I also like how all of Reaper's changes were nerfs. Accurate display of developers changes to him.
There's gotta be a reason why both OW2 and MR have a too simplified in-game hero explanations, considering both has complex interactions between each heroes
MR has done a finer job considering hero stats including falloff range & firerate are listed on their webpage. OW2 around for years n years yet these stats are only available in the workshop & unofficial wikis [lifted from fanmade workshop projects]
I feel like they do it because seeing all these characters and their numbers might be stressful to new or returning players. However it gets to a point where they need to prioritize information over aesthetics.
It’s less overwhelming to new players and learning how everything works sticks better when you actually experience it in game rather than reading really specific things. Also specificity runs the risk of allowing misinterpretation, ironically enough.
Love your ideas, as usual. I'd love to see you mock up a UI for knowing where your teammates are (relative direction and distance). It could be a minimap, arrows on the border of the screen or integrated in the party frames (which they tested in kingmaker).
I feel like this is one of the magic of OW. They tell you ability in a way that lets you explore it. It's like, a mech dropping from that high would kill people, you try, or you experience it yourself, and it feels exciting to know it does. I feel like one of the charm of OW is figuring out these small things on your own. But I also like the idea of viewing the detailed stats like dmg and falloff, so you could maybe add an option to view additional stats in the settings.
These would be really cool to have in the game. Though I feel like showing the value from the previous patch might be a bit too much info. I do think it should be also worth adding if a weapon can headshot, and what is the headshot damage multiplier, since a lot of things have diff multipliers.
We need this because personally I don’t read patch notes and I don’t really feel like knowing the exact dmg and stuff will affect me but I had no idea about stuff like echo beam on shields and deployables so that’s what I love most the unwritten features. Overall amazing idea need it.
1:20 I never had a problem with that wording. You can shoot shields and deployables so obviously they're targets. What I never got around to knowing was how overhealth affected being "below half"
I posted this idea on both r/overwatch and r/competitiveoverwatch and it got completely different reactions. Competitive loved it while the other hated it
one of the reasons i love paladins over overwatch is that it provides so much detail info of each and every champions. then again people prefer overwatch for its simplicity and casual vibe
The reason the descriptions are so brief is to not be overwhelming to new players. Also, knowing the exact info is way less useful than you think. Just playing a few games you’ll get the feel of the character and what they can do will stick in your mind way better than having to read really specific things.
I like everything except the previous patch numbers. It becomes too cluttered with values, and if players are new, they're most likely not going to care about those numbers yet. Also, would the devs have to change all of these by hand, or would it automatically update to match the numbers in-game? Blizzard is peak laziness don't forget.
They could probably write a script that automatically updates all of the numbers in the hero description by checking a hero's current stats and doing calculations when necessary.
Its odd that such a competitive shooter valorant too has no actual stats on specific stuff like anas sleepdown dont telling u its a projectile and how long it sleeps
Speaking of patch notes, I'm still SO annoyed that you can see them in game ONLY from the main menu. Why not in a match? Why not in the PRACTICE RANGE, if nothing else??
Great video and ideia! Just missed maybe a showcase of how it could work on console, hover is not really a posibility. but can maybe use the same logic as the most recent scoreboard changes
The idea of clicking on the ability to bring up the options is so simple, so intuitive, yet I don't think I've seen anyone suggest it before! Bravo! Edit: Also hi 🙂
When I play with friends, every time they are compaining about something about not knowing the values of certain things about the game I always interrup in dry speach knowing the exact value of what they are talking about, and its always the same. "what? man how the fuck you know that?" and Its always the same shamefullresponse... "I studied..." Honestly, woould like people to just be able to clic on someting IN the game and learn it without me having to be exposed as a nerd every freaking time lol
Adding icons for numbers in Detailed Info does not make any sense. You might consider adding icons for headers of a given metric instead. Otherwise, it is unclear what it means and adds clutter with less visual separation between elems in the list. It looks exactly like Blizzard would do it. Typical UX expects an icon-name-parameter kind of flow and this completely breaks it by using: NAME ICON - param Also, how you see it being integrated in the current hero section really matters. Is it like a pop up that happens when you click on the ability? That way, you can see duplicated abilities name and icon hovering on top of each other, in addition to pagination. It requires too many clicks for something so simple such as getting numbers for certain abilities
The Focusing Beam one seems redundant, considering there's no reason to think it wouldn't work on objects anyway. Also, why not include Combat Roll's distance, especially assuming things like Blink or Rampage would have that stat too?
I like the concept, but the previous patch’s stats part I don’t think would be necessary. That’s what patch notes are for, and when viewing this in a match I’d only be caring about what is, not what was. Amazing video as always! 🫡

especially since they keep changing it and going back and forth like soldier's dps
And it’s even worse because sometimes the wiki doesn’t get updated or it gets griefed
My greatest pet peeve is games simplifying damage numbers by just saying “high” or “low”. So I thank you.
Or some games having just a bar to show the damage on a gun but there are no numbers so you have no idea how much it does
The call mech ability description should be "Call down a new mech and damage enemies in a short range"
"Call down a new mech, dealing damage to enemies it lands on."
Though, I would say; call mech probably *shouldnt* say this. It'll make new players think they're supposed to be dealing damage with it, meanwhile the damage is just supposed to be a funny bonus
@EnderPhysics Call Mech I such a fun ability to use when you're getting kills with it. It is both risky and unexpected for the enemy.
@@EnderPhysics yeah exactly
the detail of putting gibbus hats on the characters when you said new players was a nice touch
