Nine New Hymns Released for New Global Hymnbook

- The singing of sacred hymns is an integral part of worshipping for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As the gradual release of the Church’s new global hymnbook continues, nine new hymns have been added to the “Hymns-For Home and Church” collection in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. These songs will be available on the online Music Library, Gospel Library and Sacred Music app within the next 24 hours.
The 9 new hymns are:
“Amazing Grace”
“Holding Hands Around the World”
“Anytime, Anywhere”
“God’s Gracious Love”
“My Shepherd Will Supply My Need”
“Oh, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus”
“Behold the Wounds in Jesus’ Hands”
“This Is the Christ”
“Come, Lord Jesus”
I look forward to singing Amazing Grace at church!

I'm so excited for these new hymns added onto the beautiful old loved ones ~ I just love that Amazing Grace and Gethsemane are in the new hymnbook!

My would say a hymn is a prayer unto God. It always saddens me when we don't finish all the verses with the Hymn we are singing. It's kinda like half a prayer is being given.
All this hubub about new hymns being added (oh! we sing a new hymn every week! /sarcasm/) when most of the Church doesn't even know all the hymns already in the book. Sing the unknowns and the forgottens, too! Those may not appear in the new hymnal and they are beautiful!
I don't know the other hymns except Amazing Grace. I'm so shocked that this hymn being over 100 years old wasn't in the LDS hymnal until now. It's in other inter-faith hymnal's. I'm an Independent Baptist and I've known that hymn since childhood in the hymn book. You guys are late getting it in to your's aren't you? Wish they update our hymnals for Ind. Baptist's and include newer modern hymns written in recent decades. Our hymnal includes most everything written up until the 1980's and a few select ones written in recent decades by other Ind. Baptist song writer's. The ones written in the 80's on up are either sung using PowerPoint or paper by modern minded pastors or rejected by more Conservative pastors for being too flesh-minded (just because the way they are sung in charismatic churches with rock music) or not doctrinally correct.
My guess is for some copyright reasons 🤔, but yeah I don't know for sure why it wasn't. Thank you for your comment though! I hope you get an updated hymnal too like you want! 🙂

When is the whole church wide hymnal going to be released? Is it going to be only in app form?
It will be published sometime in 2026 if the church stays on schedule. And that will be in the 4 main languages - English, Spanish, Portguese and French.
I don’t want to be a party pooper, but I don’t like the new hymns. They sound great when the Tabernacle Choir or a professional singer sings them, but they are difficult for most people to sing. Some of them sound like they should be in the Primary hymn book.
This hymn book is designed to replace both the current hymn book AND the children’s song book.
Hopefully, with exposure, we will be able to sing the hymns more easily. To me one of the best ways to become familiar with them is to listen in the Gospel Library app.
That's because this hymn book will be for hymns AND primary. There will no longer be two separate books.
There is something really special about singing primary songs in sacrament meeting. Unison with the children, hearing and singing the gospel news boiled down into lovely poetry meant for some of the "least of these" brings the Spirit of God in a unique and touching way.
@@FebbieG - I have also felt that singing the primary hymns. Ones like I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus and I Feel My Savior's Love. SO good!
