    So good to see you reminded of some of the things that make your choice of Max Cruise a wise and happy one. I completely agree about how a fast manageable boat adds dimensions to life. Many moons ago I did coastal hopping crusing on a J24, that lightwind speed was a joy, and more comfortable that lolling around or motoring. And if the wind picked up we flew home in the teens with reduced white sail up. Looking forward to see your build progress!

    Love the light wind sailing ability of the Max Cruise. Not many can sail easily in light winds. Great boat Terry. Great job showing it off MJ. I am really looking forward to seeing the 48 and 55 hit the water. :)

    I imagine that getting out sailing on any boat right now would motivate you to complete the build as fast as possible, but to be on a "sister" boat to yours and be able to draw the comparisons in your mind to what the future can be like has to really amp up that motivation to a peak!!

    Very glad your light-air sailing verified the performance you hoped for. I get your decision to open the doorway and skip the L-shaped settee but I like the sociability of an L-shaped seating area and the usability of a fixed table so I would almost certainly go for the L-shaped arrangement. You still get a heckuva good view aft from the salon even with a smaller doorway. Seems like a great boat.

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  5 місяців тому

      I really liked having the L shaped cockpit seating, but I think a convertible option with the movable seating will be the better solution for Jess and I. Worst case, we can permanently bond it in place later if we want. :)

    I guess you'll have diesel as a backup, but when will you even use it? It's so cool that between solar, regen, batteries and sails you'll be able to travel indefinitely without ever turning a motor over.

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  5 місяців тому

      It's a good backup. I'd love to say that we'd never use the diesel, but I think in reality when it's a liveaboard boat, we'll use it a bit to act as a genset or when we need some more grunt getting into someplace.

      It works well in sailing like this, but when in bigger seas, the production tends to vary quite a bit as the boat accelerates. They're working on new software to help keep it producing power in more 'sporty" conditions.

    You vould have a movable folding table.. or having a floor mounted bracket and a removable leg and top.
    If the floor brackets set flush into floor you wont get catching your foot on it.

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  5 місяців тому +1

      We'll probably have four different recessed sockets in two areas to allow the table to be used in a few situations.

    Interesting video. Now I’m starting to get it: reasonable speed, light wind sailing while recharging the batteries, multiple seating positions, etc. Nice! Just out of curiosity did you inspect the finished boat’s fairing areas for smoothness for the sake of comparison?

    Seems a longer, triangular hatches would make for easier stowage of longer items in the front bays. I'm sure there is a reason.

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing  5 місяців тому +1

      I think (I'm guessing here) that the size for opening deck hatches are dictated by CE for European boats. They have all kinds of requirements - some make sense, others....

    It takes a build crew of 40? people 12 months to 18 months and more to build a good working catamaran. You two are 3 years into a 7+ year build project as you stand. You need that shell in the water and working. In hindsight, you would have been better off to build a much larger (70'+-) aluminum cat that you could also charter with.
