- Who is the better guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan, or Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top? What is "Texas Blues" anyway, and does it even really exist? Do you really know the "real" ZZ Top?
This video goes into the positive and negative features of SRVs and BGs guitar playing and song writing, from a guitar-appreciation and guitar-playing perspective. I also ponder whether "Texas Blues" is a real category, or just another way of describing one or two musicians' sound.
[Couple of mistakes: naturally I meant JOE Bonamassa and not John! Also, "Love Struck Baby" by SRV is in the key of Ab, not E. Sorry!]
Here are links to the songs I mention in the video:
Brown Sugar: • Brown Sugar
Neighbor Neighbor: • Neighbor, Neighbor
Squank: • Squank
SRV Rude Mude / Hideaway in Montreux 1982: • Stevie Ray Vaughan Hid...
Vaughan would make Gibbons pass out trying to keep up. That said both have their place. Dallas born and still here.
Billy is a phenomenal guitarist, but let's be serious.
The Blues started in Texas. ❤❤
Can't compare the two. Totally different styles. That's like asking who's better yngwie or Alex lifeson way different styles both great at what they do.
Just got paid.!! Today got me a pocket full of change.
Stevie Ray Vaughan. ❤
Billy Gibbons...... because of his endless vocabulary of guitar riffs.
