Congrats on your first West Point! That’s an awesome change find. I think I’ve only ever had occasional wheat pennies in my change, never silver or West Points.
@@cscoins8302 I scored 16 silver dollars over the last few days mix of Morgan's and Peace dollars. $25 each. I have seen the same quality of coins on line for $33 to $47. I posted a couple videos of them on my channel. If you have a moment check them out and tell me what you think.
I wish I could find half dollars at the banks around here and when I do there all brand new, this is crazy good find! I miss the good old days when you would find silver dimes quarters or war nickels in your change, if that happens nowadays I damn near faint!
Any proof coin placed in circulation automatically drops in price. Secondly except for collector proof sets all silver coins ceased being minted in 1964
Correct! Half dollars were made from 90% silver through 1964 and transitioned to 40% silver from 1965 to 1970. All quarters and dimes were 90% silver through 1964 as well.
I swear I have one in my bunch, I don't know much about coins I just keep the ones I think are different... lately thou I've been looking and paying more attention
You have to look at the edge with these though, if it’s not a white/grey color it is most likely the very common copper-clad variation. It’s definitely worth paying attention to your change, there are many valuable coins that people overlook that collectors like me find in circulation!
My grandfather used to save these and he’d give them to his grand kids. I had about 300 and my sister the same. As a dumb teenager I cashed them all in for singles at a currency for face value 🤦♂️. I know I had to have silver in their.
That’s a bummer! My grandma told me her and her siblings spent all sorts of rare coins from their dad’s collection when they were young. Too bad they couldn’t have been passed down to me 😕
Yea my Grandmother used to give my sisters & I these coins- they were all pre-64 and she used to tell us to save them until we were older. Ofc we spent them lol We were kids- what would you expect a kid to do?! My Grams mistake was never explaining to us *why* they would be worth more $ but also her 1st mistake was giving them to us and not my parents (usually my parents didn't even know about it)
Thanks! I have found a few of the silver bicentennials but this was the first silver bicentennial proof half dollar I came across. They are both tough finds in circulation since these coins were only made for mint sets.
@@reneewilbur4340 Proof coins have an S mint mark but also have a polished look with a mirrored finish. They are worth a minimum of about $10 a piece for their silver value, if you have some that are not super beat up and have a date and details you should be able to get a bit more.
This isn’t true. All of my finds are legit. But believe what you want. I’ve made 170 coin hunting videos and put thousands of hours into this hobby, the fact you think I’d fake the content to make pocket change off monetization is laughable.
First of all this bicentennial is not proof because it’s been handled, proof means right from the machine right to a casing, also, as everyone knows 1964 and older is silver, how can it be the 1967 is silver?
Proof is the finish on a coin. It was struck two or more times and hand polished. It’s different from an NIFC business strike coin from a mint set. A proof found in circulation is technically considered an impaired proof, but it’s still a proof. Also, you’re thinking of 90% silver halves from 1964 and before. All half dollars were minted of 40% silver from 1965 to 1970.
I have one of the 1776-1976, guy gave it to me at the gas station yesterday instead of .67 cents. His loss lol. How do I find the value of this coin? I also have a small variety from my grandma, with a 1922 Peace Dollar

Picked up 39 rolls the other day and found no silver, but a lot of NIFC's 2018's . Don't know much about the 2022' but that is mostly what all the rolls were ...
That’s how it goes sometimes! At least you got some NIFCs so you weren’t completely skunked. I’m also not sure if 2022 was considered an NIFC or not, I know 2021 was not considered to be NIFC.
Good chance that is a grease strike through error where excessive grease was in the way when the design was being stamped into the coin. Pretty common but cool and worth a few bucks to the right buyer!
You look close to your coins or clad they quit making silver coins and 64 your Bicentennial coin would be silver because it was a proof set it was a special silver coin it was never meant for circulation and now that it's been a roll it's no longer proof it's considered circulated
When you say you're gonna get it "flipped up", do you mean put it into one of those 2x2 coin holders (usually cardboard cut out to coin size with a see-through plastic "window")?
@@cscoins8302 Thanks. I never heard the expression "flipped up". Come to think of it though, I have heard 'em called "coin flips" once or twice. I use them too, but have heard them mostly referred to as "two-by-twos". Maybe it's a regional thing? One thing is sure: "getting flipped up" sounds better than "getting two-by-twoed up". That sounds like a digestive disorder.
They will likely fetch you a few bucks if you post them on eBay or take them to a coin shop. Or you can save onto them as an investment piece like me and store them in a 2x2 cardboard coin holder. Silver prices are pretty low right now so I would advise holding onto them at least until the precious metal markets rebound.
So would that Bicentennial will proof just be a coin put out in circulation or did it come from a mint set? Because I have them in mint sets that I could crack open. Should I and then send them out to be graded? Does anyone know?
They are always from mint sets, they aren’t made for circulation. You would be best off just keeping it in the set. Taking it out of the set will typically just decrease the value. This coin also typically isn’t valuable enough to justify grading.
Does your half dollar have an S mint mark? If not, it is not silver unfortunately. You also want to look at the rim. It should be white or grey instead of copper color. The vast majority of half dollars from 1976 will not be silver. If it is silver and has an S mint mark, a proof will look polished and have great detail.
