    What happened to all that "third rail" de-icing fluid CTA was supposed to be using to keep the power rail clear of ice?????? Arching like what's shown in your video can damage the traction motors.

      Honestly this could all be avoided if they just covered the third rail like any other system does. This never happens in NY to the point of disruption

      Yeah, you're right. But the problem with doing so for Chicago is CTA would have to reconfigure the space between the nearest running rail and the 3rd-rail in order to install cover/guard. Then CTA would have to retrofit all their trains with third rail shoes similar to the type used on the NYC/MTA subway and the LIRR. I agree it would be nice if they followed your suggestion. But in the name of "COST", it ain't gonna happen.

      How can this *damage* the motor? It will burn out the contactor shoe, sure - but the motor simply gets undercurrent with the bad contact. The bigger problem is, that modern day electronics for variable frequency AC motors are bad with fluctuating voltage and simply turns itself off - as can be seen at the end of this video. Still nothing doing damage...
