I really like watching this performance, he's very cool, and all the power goes into his finger. I also like that in technically hard parts he's really enjoying the music, not suffering, a real pleasure to watch. I even prefer this to Williams (which was the first version I heard).

Where can I find J. Williams version ? I didn"t find it any way…..
I wouldn't call his tone metallic but rather very piano-like. And i think there is a lot of interpretation here. He has very nice phrasing in my opinion.
Yes, I own a Howell. I played a 1957 Fleta in Tokyo in the shop "Casa de la Guitarra" a few years ago. Beautiful and nearly exactly the same sound as a Howell. Have a look at some of my older videos when I still played my Howell.
@SuzukiGuitar57 The 'metallic' tone you refer to is not a result of his playing or a true indicator of his sound. This recording has obviously distorted the sound. It's silly to criticize tone here. I suppose you would also say that John Williams' guitar is out of tune on some of the old vinyl recordings on youtube.
I dont see how learning one style before has anything to do with his classical guitar technique. I play rock and blues for 3 years before I even touched a nylon guitar. I learned the classical guitar technique as did Bream. Its not like he tried to apply his previous technique and not learn new techniques.
its funny because what i hear about bream is that he had a terrible technique because he was too accustomed to jazz which he played BEFORE he was playing classical...but i guess none of bream's following cares to acknowledge that...
Justin Ortiz: No one would be able to play this piece with a ‘terrible technique’ ;) I found this lo-fi bootleg from a Bream live concert, and here Bream’s tempo (and I would say: his phrasings) compare fine to this rendition: ua-cam.com/video/zmqbslFr3d4/v-deo.html
The most brilliant play ever! So accurate, so fluent and so cool! That's definitely how the grand overture should be interpreted.
this performance will remain a reference for the entire world of the classical guitar for a very long time
This is without a doubt the best version I've ever heard of this piece!
Genial!
Best rendition I have heard of this piece,

BRAVISSIMO!!! very good playing!
That was a nice peice of music very well done. You playing is excellent.

His tone sounds better than the piano sounds.
The tune it exudes is very peaceful . Hmnn , a very round applause !!!!!!

Man, my fingers are hurtin now from learnin to play this! lol.
But what a tune to bleed to eh?
very nice, gret tone
Can anyone confirm that he is playing a Fleta. The rosette and head stock look like Fleta's work although they do get copied by other luthiers.

@danbwv1987 I agree
dang wish it wasn't so choppy.

Not bad:-)
it affected his classical guitar technique and tone
this video is very old.....

Why rhythm is changing? And he played this piece too fast.
I prefer Russell's version...the second part is played to fast for my taste.
The second part may be very fast but it sounds good because it's very accurate!
The hard on guitarists get for him tends to make me over react.

Breams is horrible. I don't get the cult that surrounds him.
