What is Spatial Planning and Spatial Development (English)

Spatial Planning and Spatial Development Frameworks (SDF) are crucial in managing Cape Town’s growth in a sustainable and organised manner. An SDF sets the vision for land uses in an area. It determines what a city, neighbourhood or area could look like in future, and what activities could happen on the land parcels or erven. It aims to build integrated and safe communities where people have access to jobs, social amenities and public transport services. The City is continuously updating its spatial planning documents like the Municipal Spatial Development Framework. Residents are encouraged to participate in the revision of the MSDF early in the new year.
