It was so that jay and Bob thought they were dead and so the police can't track that the same van has been out of multiple robberies they would pick up on the girls so they always bombed there car when they did a heist

They must need someone or somebody sneak to the nearby animal testing lab as a ruse to cover up the real and bigger crime. Sneaking into a animal testing lab and freed a lot of animals must be petty compared to stealing a stash of very valuable diamonds. Sneaking into a lab and freeing animals from being tested is more unselfish and noble than stealing jewels.
