    WHAT IS AN ADU?
ADU stands for accessory dwelling unit. An ADU is a permanent additional housing structure built on a property that already has a main home or main structure. You may have heard them referred to as granny flats, casitas, guest houses, or in-law suites. They can be built on a single-family lot or multi-family lot (duplexes count as multi-family).
An ADU has its own entrance, separate from the primary house, as well as a kitchen, bathroom, and living space.
Accessory dwelling units can be rented year-round and add a lot of value to your property. They can be garage conversions, stand-alone units, attic or basement conversions, or be attached to the main house.
ADUs are exceptionally flexible, and most owners find that their use for the unit evolves over the years, including multi-generational housing.
Danni and Bud live in a quiet peaceful neighborhood lined with gorgeous greenery in Portland, Oregon. Danni's mother was living on her own all the way on the other side of the country, so Danni felt it was time for her mother to live closer. They sold her Florida home and used that money to build this stunning two-story ADU.
They incorporated ADA-compliant features to make sure Danni's mother is comfortable as she ages in place. Bud and Danni also made sure to get her input on the design and finishes to make the space really feel like her own.
    MULTI-GENERATIONAL HOUSING
Did you know that 26% of Americans live in multi-generational housing? That's TRIPLE the number just a decade ago. More and more families are realizing the amazing benefits of multi-generational housing and ADUs are playing a big part. Having an ADU means you can keep your family close while still maintaining privacy and independence.
The benefits for this family don't end there! Bud and Danni decided to go big by adding a second story that they can use for working from home, gathering friends and family, or just a place to relax. It even has a Peloton room ;)

3:41 is the front house 2 stories and attached to the upper PDU? What does PDU stand for?

The structure is completely separate from the main house, but Portland regulations allow for the additional space on the second floor to be considered additional square footage for the main house despite them not being connected. The first and second floor also have separate entrances. As for what PDU stands for, honestly, we're not sure! It slipped our minds to ask, and our research turned up nothing. Will report back once we have an answer for you.
