I am just now getting into rucking - Have a brand new 15L Bullet Rucker on the way and just won an ebay bid on a GR1, no clue how old it is, but looks like it's in great condition and scored it for under $200. Also have 2 15's, a 20 and a 30lb yesforall ruck weights in the mail. Thanks for all your videos, have been learning tons!!
After GR2, GRX, Kit Bag etc., I'm glad I got my first classic 1000D GR1 in January this year. I don't have any clothes abrasion issue, probably because I don't like cotton. 210D back could be good for heavy bags, like GR2, GR3. I probably will get one of the new models in the future.
A solid change IMO and I’ve been wanting to go down to a 21, so I ordered one. I’m not a fan of 1000d on my back. I am indeed sad about the quick access not being a part of this, missed opportunity for a really killer redesign, but so it goes.
Exactly ! You are talking on bang in points . GR1 was on my list due to its 1000D material and was definitely waiting for quick access pocket . I have gr2 34 L which I again found easy access pocket is must required pocket . May they are not adding them as the sale of heritage would slash down . Also water bottle pocket would be great addition . In reality we hardly use side mole webbing for edc . I wrote many a times but as usual they don’t respond to any mails . Very bad communication at Goruck’s end . Only website where no contact details given except mail id on which they never reply . No customer care service . Great review , good luck
Also torn here from the classic look. That said, it is definitely an improvement overall but I'm also waiting for quick access pockets to become standard. Then we're golden!
Oh man... it is certainly different feel. Thankfully there are 14 years worth of classics out there if you ever want/need on. Only down side will be if they release an amazing colorway that hasn't been around before.
@@Rucking and then if they do they 210D won't 'matchy matchy' ahhaha I'm good, I'll kept my GR1 M81 and I got 2 GR1 slicks incoming with SCARS mods and I think that'll be me now unless they either do bring back full 1000D or 500D otherwise I'll be looking on the secondary markets 🫣🤦✊
“No water bottle holders, stop it”. Thank You! Goruck doesn’t do it. Plenty of companies and brands that do. Pick one that fits your needs and get it. On my bag shelf I have bags that do and bags that don’t have water bottle holders. I personally don’t pick a bag that does or doesn’t have a bottle holder I don’t care but if I wanted one I know to research brands that do and not Goruck.
Exactly. I hate water bottle pockets - they rarely look good and usually not great at carrying anything. Somehow some people are obsessed with them - get a leak proof bottle and put it inside the bag.
the new straps with 210D CORDURA Suck! throw the bag over one shoulder and it immediately slip off onto the ground. the old straps were great, i hate the change.
Thoughts on the go wild GR1? I grabbed one and am liking it but will only be using it for travel, kind of on the fence of keeping it or getting something else. Thoughts on it as a sole GR1?
Outside of it being full 1000d (vs 210d for back and straps) it appears to be a normal GR1. That being the case, it is ultimately a call on if you like the style. Personally, I think it is a good looking bag, but not my style. Why are you in the fence?
@@Rucking bucking the trend of buying solid color bags my whole life, I suppose. 😂 wrapping my head around having a camo backpack. It does look good though and I’m not crazy about the other solid colors, it’s a very solid bag. QAP too.
Is the smoothness so much that the bag slides around on your back? I've never owned a GR1 so debating on whether a classic or this update is for me. I do want it for EDC so I'm hesitant to get the classic if it will ruin work clothes.
Regardless how anyone feels about the change, the facts are that 210D has significantly less tensile strength and abrasion resistance than 1000D; it's also a lot more breathable, and will cling to clothing items a lot less than 1000D. 210D is undeniably less resistant to tears, damage, and wear; Goruck is suggesting that the spots where it puts the 210D won't affect the overall durability of the bag, citing the data from its Ruckers. If you EDC a GR1 in a dress shirt, this will be a welcome change, but honestly I'm the type of person that is never using a Goruck anything in a dress shirt, so frankly, I hate it.
"210D is undeniably less resistant to tears, damage, and wear;" -- Yet, it has been tested for 2 years on thousands of GORUCK Ruckers (which go though some serious abuse) and they report, I believe, zero instances of it breaking down. I've beat the hell out of my Rucker 3.0 and no issues what-so-ever.
You'd have to be using the bag very, very, wrong to be causing damage to a back panel. So more breath-ability and less clothing/skin damage makes it a win all around. The 1000D was literally making contest runners bleed.
@@RuckingI have a tear developing at the very bottom of my 3.0 Rucker. And that’s the thing: Goruck made the 210D area bigger than it needs to be. On the first run with the new back, the edges were 1000D. How it’s supposed to be. Bu now they extend it even to the bottom. Where I have my tear on the Rucker. A bag that has seems only 4 events.
Hmmm. Got some insider intel or just a feeling? They make changes, but those are on spinoffs (like heritage, carryology, etc). Actual "changes" to the foundation of the GR series has only really happened once or twice that I can think of.
Complete disappointment 😞. GoRuck sucks for not adding QAPs to the whole line including the bullets. My bullet already has 210d back and shoulders. But not interested in any other GR purchases at all now that this is the only update we've all been waiting for. They missed the mark badly. They definitely gonna loose some fans here.
Yeah. It isn't revolutionary, but it is significant because they have committed to this be a permanent change to the series. All other changes were temporary. This is permanent.
I have a bullet with 210D backing and love it. This is a solid upgrade imo, will def be getting a GR1 now to add with my GR2 500D, Bullet, Kit bag.
Nice!
I like the change. Ordered a GR1 and GR2 26L today.
Goruck is a conservative company. Product change means good change.
Nice! I appreciate that they gave the 210d a few years of abuse on the Rucker before pulling the long-term decision for the GR series.

Yeah, I've never experienced any noticeable issues with 1000D, but I get the potential.
Looks fine. I’m sure it’ll be great, as long as it retains the great comfort and durability.

Interesting, I always get super quick responses from the support email.
It’s a welcomed upgrade imo. I just want the damn quick access pocket standard on all models (except the Rucker maybe).
Yeah. QA pocket is so nice.
Great upgrade to an already great pack.
I think it is a good upgrade long-term.

Classic won’t ruin your clothes as an edc. New is smoother and will have a little glide. But, not in a bad way.
