- Seventh song in Kill 'em All -album.
Presenter: Metallica
Album: Kill 'em All
Lyrics:
Sound is ripping through your ears
The deafening sound of metal nears
Your bodies waiting for his whips
The taste of leather on your lips
Hear the cry of War
Louder than before
With his sword in hand
to control the land
Crushing metal strikes
on this frightening night
Fall onto your knees
For the Phantom Lord
Victims falling under chains
You hear them crying death pains
The fists of terrors breaking through
Now there's nothing you can do
Hear the cry of War
Louder than before
With his sword in hand
to control the land
Crushing metal strikes
on this frightening night
Fall onto your knees
For the Phantom Lord
The leather armies have prevailed
The Phantom Lord has never failed
Smoke is lifting from the ground
The rising volume metal sound
Hear the cry of War
Louder than before
With his sword in hand
to control the land
Crushing metal strikes
on this frightening night
Fall onto your knees
For the Phantom Lord
Fall to your knees
and bow to the Phantom Lord
That main riff is so badass. One of their most underrated tracks.
AGREE
Dave Mustaine was so pissed off when 'tallica stole that song of his (among others) he wrote My Last Words.
2:30 MY GOD how i love that interlude
Preach
Revelation-iron maiden
YESS DUDE THAT INTERLUDE IS JST GOOF
Been listening to metallica since 1947. Still great to this day.
1947??
Cool. Especially considering that Het was born in 1963.
you aren't a real fan, i've been listening since 1885
Are you kidding me, i have been listining them since 1776
The Neanderthals were rocking to Metallica. Fossil evidence suggests.
2:34 one of the greatests riffs.
You couldn't say it better.
Yeah that’s sweet man
I remember hearing it the first time back in the day, and thinking WOW that was incredible I didn’t want it to stop…
You mean the plucking?
It sounds like a group of raiders that are primarily distinguished by some kind-of single-seat vehicle.
Motorcycle or space-bike or what have you
I get heavy overtones of the phantom lord and his forces being able to traverse the vacuum of space
Wouldn't be very much of a phantom if he couldn't
It may be an unpopular opinion, but to me, this song is _Kill 'Em All_ 's climax.
same
Best Metallica Album, and the best song from the album.
eh I think Metal Militia is the perfect climax as it is, although I do think think song should probably swap places with Seek and Destroy in the track listing
This is the one where they let loose the most. It reminds me of G.B.H. a lot.
No you're right. This is by far the best one👍
A classic thrash song. I love when James screams "looooooooord" in the end!
even 9 years later?!
YES YES YES FCKİNG YES!
2:30 First Metallica harmony, ladies and djentlemen
This is just the interlude. The first Metallica harmony is the fast gallop part in No Remorse.
@@b3fr1enderbetr4yer8 Oh you mean the ta tarata tarata taratarata part? It's a harmony too, but Phantom Lord is before No Remorse on the album, so I think this is the first Metallica harmony
@@th6n It's weird since neither harmonies appear on No life 'til leather and Metal up your Ass and the others
It was writen by Dave mustaine.
@@b3fr1enderbetr4yer8I think it's fair to say harmonies were taught to James via Cliff, since Cliff was classically trained.
THIS.WAS.MY.LIFE
I see the similarity.
basically the same riff.. dave mustaine was obviously mad aha
This was my faith
*IS
THIS.WAS.MY.SONG
0:32 to the vocals is just amazing! Pure energy!
Metallica was a breaking point for the metal/thrash music, SUCH A VIOLENCE and power. Just lovely.
tHrash*
Thank you very much!
Sos argentino?
I also see thrash metal as "just lovely"...
One of the best songs on this album.
That synth in the beginning though
The only time ever they used synth or no?
@@SteveSmith-sm7fg i think so
The album is a masterpiece
No synth. It's Cliff's bass tone.
The slow section gives me blue balls every time it ends. I demand a song with that as one of the main riffs.
I think For Whom the Bell Tolls is the closest we'll get. :/
"Welcome Home" is close.
Check out the video "Phantom Lord's 'Interlude' [Extended]".
That video has 10 minutes of the interlude on repeat, and it is very well put together.
My favorite part 0:00-5:02
That's the whole song idiot
i know, and you are angry kid sir
Hayk Gyurjyan I'm 12 years old so shut the fuck up
***** sure
***** 1v1 m3 rust snipar onley
i'm 48 years old when i was young i'd bought the original tape from a disc shop, after 3 months it was destroyed and i bought it again and again..
Smoke is lifting from the ground the rising volume metal sound!! Epic
4:35 that always gaves me goosebumps, I FUCKIN love James Hetfield
yeah that's definitely the best part of this great song.
this is the album that turned me into a full on metalhead. truly changed my life, i remember hearing this a couple years back and being shook to the core. best thrash album of ALL TIME!! #MUYA🤘
My favorite song from them, a classic.
Him. It was Mustaine.
cliffs bass playing under the clean guitar part sounds mean as fuck
Kill 'Em All has to be the best debut album period. The fact they wrote songs of this quality barely out of school is astounding.
As soon as 2:35 kicks in you know you're hearing something different and special
I know I am not the only one that thinks that the part from 2:35-3:17 is ahead of its time for 1983.
Ahead of it's time? Are you kidding? it sounds typical for that time around the 80s. Wow...
In 1983?
***** Or it was just invented then, by Metallica.
***** whole album is ahead of it's time....
+D BryanYES loool i've been thinkin that for a lot of time and never found anybody who agreed me :D
yes reminds me of the days i used to sniff speed
This is the greatest comment
Fuck yeah! I used to do a lot of speed..
I used to snort gasolin and lit myself on fire,FUCK YEAH!!!
Omg
the influence of motörhead in this song is very clear.
Dave is the best Thrash artist period!
I like how aggressively upbeat the song.
The arpeggio part is so simple yet majestic... I played it so many times that my e string plucked last time. Brilliant work of composing.
And the scream part at the end..
Dave mustaine !!! Power riffs 💥💥💥💥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is my go to “wake up at 5am” song
Nobody can surpass this immortal epicness! OMG! Mmmm aaaa mmmm aaaaaa!!!!
listening to this while you are sad hits different...
"Phantom Lord" la antigua banda de Hetfield :D
This song reminds me a lot of Motorhead
They were Metallica's, or at least James' inspiration from what I've heard
Puts me in mind of megadeth a little bit, can't imagine why
@@samvimes2821 Same, I can't *quite* get why it sounds a lot like megadeth.
TBT 03 it was written by Dave mustaine
@@blockminer7491 Sorry, sarcasm can't be detected through text and it wasn't obvious enough
now this, this is a song underrated for no reason god damnit.
cant believe this is the least popular song on Kill Em All (on spotify at least) it is such a good song one of the best on the album
That scream at the end is SO EPIC
4:32 Best Metal Ending \m/
I imagine Dave Mustaine playing those solos with his red headbanging
Except he isn't on this album.
@@MrParkerman6 But he composed some of its songs
ua-cam.com/video/0bn_nhm4aRE/v-deo.html
I prefer Hammett
He did in san Francisco 2011
Phantom lord = art
can definitely feel dave mustaines influence in this song
This song isn't even popular, but still unbelievable! Lesser bands would consider this a masterpiece.
"Sound is ripping through your ears the deafening sound of metal nears!!"
THE most underrated Metallica song. For me, this is their 2nd best song after Fade To Black. I don't get why people say this isn't memorable, especially with that freakin' interlude.
2:35
This was my life
This was my fate
This was my life
This was my fate
You see it too, Leo?
One of the best metallica songs..:)
Yes
how fucking FROM HELL are the solo runs from 3:22. Best combined rythm/lead section of the album. Sawing EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and Hammett just going nuts, i love it
The leather armies have prevailed, the Phantom Lord has never failed!
Bow to your knees and bow to the Phantom Lord!
I consider this song the start of the "War Freak Quad" that closes out Kill Em All as all the song topics relate to war and conquest! 🤣🤘
I'm 15 and my favourite album's Black Album.
UA-cam, man. We have access to their entire career, not just what was released when we were kids.
Men,i m telling you,James could had been an exellend fantasy or dark fantasy novel writter or even a poem writter for that matter. His lyrics in the spirituall, apocalyptic, death and war related songs are just fucking amazing.Like reading Lovecraft but with heavy metal playing in the backround. And at the time he was pretty young too.Great stuff..
Dave kicks ass 🔥🔥
This song is sooo fun to listen to :)
Holt said it himself that Mustaine deserves credit for the whole genre..
Mustaine is a musical genius
god dam it i hope my neighbors love phantom lord haha
"LOOOORRRRDDD!!!" - sounds like Quorthon here
#HailQuorthon
@DisciplesOfAlliance Just because of that drum fill...come on!
Thank you Dave Mustaine.
+n0af ....for co-writing only four songs on this entire album....
+Evelina999 he co-wrote two songs and wrote two himself.
pinkmullet4 Nope, look up the writing credits, there isn't a single song that was written by him only.
Evelina999 Jump in the Fire and The Four Horsemen were finished and complete before Dave ever joined the band and brought it to them and remained as Daves original versions of the songs all the way up until they booted him. They only changed the lyrics afterwords and _stole_ songwriting credit for them.
pinkmullet4 If they rewrote the lyrics then obviously they get credit for rewriting them
god I fucking love Phantom Lord
1:15 Primal Concrete Sledge!
Pantera?
@@ButtahDawgMcDouble yep
2:34 wow was like an explosion
seek and destroy, hit the lights, metal militia, phantom lord are the most underrated songs on this AMAZING FUCKIN album!!! Kill Em’ All is definitely their best album because i feel they tried so damn hard to make it big with this album its just metallica pushing out their best work after the black album i felt like their fame just let them make shitty music and they would still get paid so they didnt even care, this is the hard thrash metallica everyone loves and rocks
That slow break at 2:34 is one of the most beautiful moments in any Metallica song, ever.
This is clearly work from Dave.
The riff in 3:03 is litterally the same from "This Was My Life" by Megadeth
true!!!
He did Co-write it.
That's actually a Saxon riff, listen to the ''Princess of the Night'' by them. They play a very similar riff under the solo.
metallica is older than megadeth so megadeth faked this riff
This riff is so simple, it's in every metal song.
The best song from the greatest album ever.
This Was My Life, This Was My Fate 2.34
Amazing
Lord im comin
@Wellingtomlol55 that's early 80's metal production. Sounds kickass if you ask me, hell, James' vocals are a big part of the reason why I love Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning so much :P
best album ever, like all metallica albums
This song just oozes NWOBHM influence.
2:30 - 3:17
that part just Screams Dave Mustaine
Yes, 3 is greater than 2:30-3:17
disabled comments get no play on UA-cam hence the reason why I'm here and besides the clean part in this song
Hell yeah 🤘🤘🤘
the only album where the bass sound badasss!
awsome metallica song 5/5 thx 4 upload
Thanks man, that's one awesome video!
Best of the best!!!
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!
History in the making !
This is pure British Heavy metal. Something like Iron Maiden`s Prowler or Charlotte the Harlot. Killer stuff..
dafuq?
eddie123 It has even some Judas Priest`s-Exciter in there,of course with Tygers of the Pan Tang-Spellbound John Sykes copy paste solos. In other words, pure British metal I agree. \m/
Yeah and it has good vocals unlike Iron Maiden pussy ass accent singing.
Metallica is an american band man...
Bence Patyi
What is your point? That American can`t be inspired by European music, cradle of modern music.
Think twice.
This was my life by Megadeth
the best music of them.
Sick guitar solo !!
This is what metal sounds like folks.
Best song of this LP! :D
My favourite song from Kill 'Em All
Long live to Metallica and Dave Mustaine
Typical Dave Mustaine - thanks to the god of thrash metal 👑🤘
Drunken horde - silly lyrics
Hold your breath, prick up your ears
A bunch of savage pissheads nears
As dry as bone are their lips
Fight, don't care about your chips
Drunk, but they need more
Bottles on the floor
With sticks in their hands
They tell their demands
We are stiff with fright
Ready for the fight
We won't share our beer
With that drunken horde
Loud and silly, they're a pain
They think they're cool, but man they're lame
Greet their faces with our boots
There's no way they have our booze
Drunk, but they need more...
Peanut-brained, dumb silly males
We showed them they're a bunch of fails
Pissheads lying on the ground
While all our booze is safe and sound
Drunk, but they want more...
We've saved our beer
And rum from the drunken hoard
Remember Napster guys ?
I sure as fuck do. Haha , good old times.
Wow it totally is! I never noticed that.
This reminds me Hit the lights and This was my life
this is the old and good metallica lml :D cliff, dave, lars , james :D
I AGREE!!!!!!!!!
I was thinking the same!
Hell Yeah!!!!
Thank you jaymz
EPİC word also not sufficient to describe that scream. İts comes from out of this wold!!!
Underrated song
