Hiroshima is very special. I wouldn't say we enjoyed it, I wish there wasn't a reason for it to exist! 😔 But it's definitely a place everyone should visit, especially people who agree with nuclear weapons.

An amazing video with such poignant coverage of Hiroshima showing both sides of it. People don’t always think of it as a place where people live and work today so it’s super nice to see.

Thank you 💗 We wanted to show Hiroshima as we saw it. Just wish we could've recorded the interactions we had with people. By far the nicest people we encountered in Japan! x

It was terrible that an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and so many people were killed as a result of a senseless war started by Japan. It brought the war to an abrupt end, however, and saved many more lives that surely would have died on both sides in equally horrible ways. I was born in 1944 and my parents took me and my siblings to live in Japan in November, 1947.
World War I started in 1914 and a mere 25 years later World War II began. It has now been nearly 80 years without another World War (over 3 times longer), in large part because of the nuclear weapons that still exist - so how many hundreds of thousands of lives have been saved in that time? As long as evil exists in the minds and hearts of people, there will always be wars, but hopefully never another worldwide one. A little balance would have been nice to have been included in your video, but I’ve never heard of Portugal’s role at all, so perhaps that’s why.

The first time I heard someone say that they were glad atomic weapons exist because they help keep the peace was in a random English class at university. I remember how that comment blew my mind because I never thought of it that way. I understand why you'd agree with that. Obviously, you've been in this world way longer than I have. Your parents lived through wars (mine didn't). However, I still disagree with their existence. And the best example that I can give is what's happening in Ukraine right now. No one wants to help a country that's being invaded because they fear the invader's capacity to destroy them with his nuclear weapons. Nuclear bombs and weapons help keep people afraid but give others courage to do horrible things to innocent people. And I know that it's generally agreed that the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the second World War. But it's impossible to predict what would have happened had they not been created in the first place. You believe they saved lives - I can only see how many they took and continue to take.
As for adding balance to my video - I understand why you'd have liked me to bring up the fact that the bombs technically brought the war to an end but that's definitely not the point of this video. We could discuss this for days and never reach an agreement. This video was about two people visiting a beautiful city that was ravaged by an atomic bomb and how this city believes true peace can only be achieved when all nuclear weapons disappear. And how it came alive after being completely destroyed. There was no point in saying all that I said just to then say "but even though thousands of innocent Japanese people died in horrific ways, many more were saved because of the existence of atomic bombs". It's not what I believe in. Hope you understand! Thanks for watching and for commenting!

By the way, you said the war was started by Japan. I'm sure you know that's not true and that you meant to say Germany!
