  • After visiting Hiroshima, a visit to Nagasaki was in order. It was very humbling to have been able to visit both cities and take in what this city has to share with everyone.

And no, forgetting the past is a terrible idea, "forgive, but never forget". To forget is a terrible idea that denies the facts and endorses ignorance, if you keep teaching the wrong information of the youth, you will end up fabricating the history and reality of the past, for the sake of achieving peace. The recent tensions over kashmir have brought me here. In case of nuclear war between Pakistan and India, the bombs are approx. 950 times more powerful. Blast radius is 200+km per bomb, burn radius is more and shockwave radius is greater. In case the countries use only the smaller and only few of their warheads on ewach other, both countries will be annhilitaed. There will be a smoke cloud that will rise above the stratosphere and engulf the earth , there will be no sunlight on the planet for more than two decades. ice age will follow and shortage iof food. Ozone will be depleted to 15% and world population will fall as per reasearch by Scientist Tom. The world community needs to step in and stop the massacre of Kashmirirs before our planet is gone.

Take WW2, the USA went to war to defend itself. I’m not talking about defending yourself. I’m am talking a about the people who originally started the conflict. Sorry you did not understand my meaning. I’m talking about people who are like the terrorists who kill people for nothing. Using terror does not solve your problem. The truth is, this bomb SAVED lives. The alternative was an Air/Naval/Ground invasion by the US from the South and an Air/Naval/Ground invasion from the North by the Soviets. It was estimated that an invasion of mainland Japan would have cost 3-5 million lives (military and civilian). It would have a taken a few years and sadly, once the allies won, Japan would have been split in the same way Germany was. Read what the Russians did to the Germans post WW2... The same would have happened to the Japanese. As bad as the bomb was, it saved lives...

That force might be catastrophic for us, but it won't end all life on Earth. The planet is too big, it would be just literally like a tiny fart. But a serious threat to us because we're small. The thing that you should be worried about is an asteroid impact like the one that landed in the Yucatan peninsula, in Mexico, 65 million years ago. An atomic bomb is a nuclear bomb. A nuclear reaction is when the nucleus of an atom collides to produce one or more nuclides that are different from the original nuclide. A nuclear power plant uses uranium to produce power through fission. The atomic bomb of Hiroshima used much more highly enriched uranium to produce a bomb through fission as well. As you can see, we call our power plants today nuclear power plants and atomic bombs in the same aspect are nuclear bombs as well.

Nagasaki will certainly never be forgotten by the POWs who were imprisoned there. Of course, we only know this because the war ended in September 1945 so they managed to survive. The Japanese govt had planned to kill all POWs in its custody by the end of 1945. All 400,000 of them.
Don't ask me to cry for Nagasaki. Japan chose to start the war. Japan chose to fight the war the way of did. Japan chose to treat those it conquered and captured the way it did. Japan got exactly what it deserved. Japan got one-seventh of what it deserved.

That is a quote from Admiral Yamamoto after the attack on Pearl Harbor. General Tojo had no respect for the U.S. and ordered Yamamoto to attack Pearl or be removed(assassinated). Yamamoto was told a formal declaration of war would be given prior to the attack. When that failed, Yamamoto supposedly said, "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant." Yamamoto had been a Naval Attache in Washington and knew the United States well. He knew the immense industrial capacity that Japan could never match. He also understood the American people and knew a surprise attack was the worst thing that could of happened.

During the battle of Okinawa 36 American ships were sunk by
Kamikaze planes 12,500 American marines and soldiers died 39,000 were wounded
and a further 20,000 had combat fatigue (known as PTSD today). The Japanese
lost 110,000 soldiers killed with about 10,000 captured or wounded. Civilian
casualties numbered some 100,000 many of whom committed suicide at the
instigation of their own army. Now given Okinawa was the last line of defence
before the home islands and the casualties on both sides were substantial the
dropping of both those bombs probably saved more lives on both sides that a
normal invasion of boots on the ground
The Japanese did not make any announcement of their intent
to bomb Pearl Harbour. However the Americans did inform the Japanese government
of their intention to use a new super weapon of immense power. Leaflets were
dropped over several of the proposed target cities but the Japanese government
and the people did not heed the warning. Had either Germany or Japan attained
nuclear status first they would have used it mercilessly and without any
    warning whatsoever.

Mr. Chumuah, you are correct to point out that Russia had begun to attack Japan in summer '45. However, the Japanese had had several messages of peace offers from the allies prior to the bombs. The reason Japanese Imperial Gov't could/would not surrender was more because they refused unconditional surrender--what the allies demanded following the Potsdam Conference. Many present-day "historians" do not realize that McArthur and Nimitz were marshaled with over 1 million Allied troops. My dad was one of those. Odds are, I wouldn't be writing this today, but for the bomb. I thank God that Truman and others in our gov't had the courage and resolve to have done with Imperial Japan, along with our allies' steadfastness. Sometimes bad things have to come to have done with nastiness such as the Imperial Japanese military junta. And thank God Emperor Hirohito overruled the militarists and surrendered. The Japanese people were dying every day for their machismo. Most of us a glad to have such a fine friend in our Japanese allies today. No one of the WWII Axis has done more to repay the world for past wrongs than Japan, I just wish they knew how to say: "We were wrong, and we're sorry."

    • @patrickmccrann991
      @patrickmccrann991 6 років тому +5

Please don't give me the poor Japanese routine. Japan started the war in the Pacific by attacking Pearl Harbor. They were an aggressive Militant country that wanted to rule the Pacific. They were given several chances to surrender before the bombs were dropped and refused. Only the direct intervention of the Emperor overruling the Military Government led to the surrender. Even then, the Military tried to overthrow the Emperor's decision. The Commander of the Imperial Guard Division refused to go along and alerted his troops. He was killed, but his troops protected the Emperor. Finally, President Truman 's decision to drop the bombs came down to the casualty estimates for invading Japan. Estimates upwards of 1 million casualties convinced Truman he had no choice but to use the weapons. Russia was not allowed into Japan because they would have done exactly what they did in Europe, an Iron Curtain that lasted nearly 50 years.
