Nice review! You mentioned NVH in all cars but the Suzuki... Other reviewers have pointed out that the Swift can be noisy at speed or on rougher/bumpier surfaces. What were your impressions?
I have the previous model and have test driven the newer one. Really doesn't bother me. I like hearing the engine roar. As for suspension, it's a tad stiff. But that stiffness helps a lot when taking on bends and sharp turns at speed. Hardly any body roll.
I like to hear the engine. I had a new Toyota Yaris 1.33 two years ago. Smooth engine but totally devoid of any character. Very dull car. Got rid after 6 months.

accesser The current facelifted 2020 mazda2 is now including apple carplay and android auto. Real shame it took them this long, I don’t know if previous years versions can be upgraded to include this functionality.
Mazda 2 and Suzuki swift are both very good looking cars. However I like how Mazda 2 has no turbo and therefore more reliable.
Turbos last a long time. And even if they do die, the engine will still run fine... it just won't be as powerful as when the turbo is working. So buying a car with turbo is risk-free.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior with me I usually buy used cars so if the previous owner hasn't replaced oil often enough or reved hard from cold then that causes wear. It's just a pain if you want a long lasting car. Emmitions are killing all cars.
Turbo = better fuel economy or more performance, decreases longevity of car.
@@jay-uo2bi turbos reduce fuel economy. Try look at the current mpg when the turbo is spooled in your car ( if u have turbo obvs)
@@kp4643 Notice how I said 'OR'? A small turbo engine will use less fuel but can output just as much or more than a larger, but na engine. The point is if you use a turbo in a engine, you can either keep the size the same and increase power or you can use a smaller turbo engine and produce as much power but use less fuel.
I have the new suzuki swift and I can tell that the hard plastic interiors look to me a lot nicer than some soft plastic ones I have seen. Actually I quite like them and I am not sure if I wanted soft touch material. This comes from a quality-conscious person.
I had a new Hyundai i20 as rental, diarrhea-brown soft touch plastic pasted all over the place, didn't look nice at all

Suzuki saves money on interior plastics and other superficial aspects and give top class mechanical components (Toyota/ Aisin Auto transmissions, IHI Turbo etc) and features instead. As a result , Suzuki topped the 2018 What car ? reliability survey in UK. mazda was placed 11th and VW 17th. It is an extremely commendable achievement .

It may be less luxurious , but it is enjoyable and suzuki as a brand has done much better in reliability. pls go through what the no.1 mechanics on u tube Sotty Kilmer and also John Logan of australia say about VW reliability.

Do not bother with auto stop start. It’s not worth it, the fuel it saves is dismal for the annoyance it causes. These cars only use around 400-700mL per hour idling, a couple of minutes at the red light is nothing.
J Ludo I have a new Polo. Stop start is great. I don’t even notice it, by the time I’m in gear and ready to accelerate, the engine is going. At lights I’m not pumping out smelly fumes while waiting.
@WalksWithTurkeys Maybe you're not "pumping out smelly fumes while waiting" but you're a massive annoyance for everyone behind you, waiting for you finally moving away (and in that time everyone else is pumping out smelly fumes just because of you not moving away properly). Start-Stop does save veeeery little fuel, its more a marketing-gag (for so many years now) but some still think it's magic. Think more about what happens to your engine and all the connected parts when its permanently shut down, started again, shut down, started again... VW loves you, you're the best customer :)

From comfort to fun
I bought a red Polo Beats for the great sound system and it’s light stylish cabin. The front seats are really comfortable. Mine is a manual & I can really make it fly by paying attention to the rev counter. The first gear needs a quick up change to second & driven so the revs don’t drop gets the best out of it. It’s quiet but the engine can growl which I like. On a recent 400 miles round trip on the hottest day this year the air-con was perfect. I liked how the car told me to take a break too!! I’m getting 45mpg presently without trying!
I would not have the Swift! It’s wing mirrors are huge and I found it hard to place that car on the road. The Polo is a grown-up car & better than a Golf GTi in many ways, as on todays roads the extra performance doesn’t get used. I love the Beats!!!
Mazda demio front headlight looks so scary and looks so badass... Mazda has the most beautiful productions and designs... I love mazda especially pro japanese....
The Baleno is even better than the Swift. The Polo's cam chain is well known to fail after 70,000km. Costs a fortune to fix!
I like this review but it does miss important details such as boot size and room in the rear.
WalksWithTurkeys there are a lot of other reviews that show that and I feel like it’s easy enough to see at a show room. I also think the review was long enough already. But I can understand that you might want to see all the details in one video.

Citroen used in this test was more expensive and doesn’t even have LED lights as an option. They could equip Polo a bit better to march prices of it’s rivals in mu opinion. But it’s shame it doesn’t have the dual zone A/C as standard

I've measured both polo and mazds noise and mazda has less noise. So...
I'd take the Swift, best value for money, most fun to drive and good quality/low maintenance. Really like Mazda but the 2 is really getting old. C3.. just no. And the Polo is the most boring car I have seen in a long time, both inside and out.
Swifts have high servicing costs and require premium fuel in ALL models. Looks like a dim-sim on wheels.

I have shunned Mazda for years now due to intrsion of road noise into passenger compartment. I like silent cars.
Only people who doesn't know how to drive the car dont like the sound of the car(engine). Most of the time i drive listening to the engine how it reacts, souds, whats happening etc. You need to know your engine. You know why and who is buying automatic cars.
Polo makes no sense, with equipment it costs the same or even more as compact cars like Mazda 3, Hyundai i30,...
Polo is utter crap and overrated, i have the Hyundai i20, good looking, reliable and nice to drive + loaded with kit.

@@skrotosd I have driven all these cars (except the Citroen). I thought the Polo would have been my favourite but was pleasantly surprised when I drove the Suzuki. That boosterjet engine is a real gem.
Have also driven lots of Golfs, Passats - they look really good. VW are masters at making their cars look so nice. But I came away disappointed after I had driven them. They were not as good as they looked to drive. Even a modern day Ford transit van handles better than a Golf and Passat.... something car channels don't tell you - but go experience them yourself and see if you do not agree with me.
PS Prior to driving the Suzuki I never gave much thought to Suzuki.
MelCanuck my experience is the opposite, my polo destroys other cars in highway, even if is on methane it can do easily 200km/h and still have perfect handling, with some high quality tires i can even go on snow better than some 4x4, for personal experience.

I have the new turbo swift in Australia love it.
The mazda is actually a tick in every box. The fact its not a turbo is a bonus. Its MPG is real! I would rather hear a real engine roar 5:55 in the cabin than some artificial noise pumped through the speakers, shots fired at who?? Comment below.
These cars are intended as everyday daily drivers in the city. I give only 6 months of everyday driving and I guarantee you that the noisy engine will have made you an irritable and angry man.
I agree the m2 is definitely the best car but turbo is a bonus as it increases fuel economy.
Social Justice Warrior you don’t need to rev your car that much in the city, unless you’re a show off of sorts. Roads in another story, but again, you shouldn’t even consider the Mazda 2 if you hit roads or freeways too often.

I would ask you to go for the Polo, as that is in my opinion the better car! Considering the build quality, performance and the fuel consumption, it is pretty good! As for the budget you have to stretch it a little more for the polo than the swift!
Considering road accidents in India are horrible, the VW has a strong build whereas its compromised in Suzuki! Check for the features too!

Post is from a year ago but Suzuki are no where near Vw polo in terms of fuel economy, quality and looks and safety, i did test alot cars but the polo felt the most specail, felt like i was driving a top end model Mercedes.

The Baleno is the best car in it's class. Better even than the Swift. It's got a proper engine too that runs on the cheaper 91 petrol.

In Australia only about 2% of new cars are purchased with a manual transmission.
thats because of all the traffic queues I think. Manual cars are considered inneficients so I suppose they are considered a luxurious choice. Just the opposite of Europe, but im not sure.

Yay....!!!, Love that the swift won and I quite agree. I own the previous version swift and it is a fun little pocket rocket and always manages to put a smile on my face especially when I take it into bands. Will love to try out the new one, The C3 for me sorry to say crap. Mazda2, I like it but maybe its time for an update and finally VW hmmmm......... it won't disintegrate after 30,000Km, Good quality fit and finish but yeah its not a bad car but for once I'm happy it didn't win, Well done SUZUKI
Youve obviously never owned or driven a Polo. 3 1/2 years, 75000km without as much as a blown lightbulb. I can't get over the total bs that is spread about VW.
Peter Kok, Your right but like i said Not bad. I have however been in one in UK. Unfortunately here where i live there is no VW dealership. Im not saying its not a great car but it is not a fun car. At least not as fun as a golf. Drive a swift and a polo back to back. You will see what i mean.

lol VW last forever? VW has the highest engine and transmission failure rates and the worst customer service. Long term quality is even worse than Citroen.
Suzuki and Mazda are far more reliable than VW cause they are Japanese.
@@SpiroTwo agreed my polo 2015 had issues with megatronics, its not the gearbox itself. tho i still took another risk and got new Aw Polo and 7spd is still jerky but alot more snappy than my old polo. they did have issues when they first released the 7spd but other than the gearbox my old polo was reliable as all hell.

Ps not to be a hater but you guys do realise a warranty isn't legally binding in Australia right? Plus to be eligible for these "unlimited km warranties" you need to service them at the specific intervals that get very pricey after awhile, had a Hyundai ix35 a couple of years back where in order to keep my warranty the dealer was trying to screw me out of $150 every 10,000kms for an air con pollen filter, or where they wouldn't rotate or balance the tires as part of the standard servicing fee $400 which meant servicing was uber expensive (just for a warranty).
So as I've learnt - stick with something reliable and well built with a good reputation ie (Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki) - generally Japanese made vehicles will be far more reliable than their Euro-trash equivalents as reliability is one of the corner-stones of how these brands emerged in the 1980's to become Australia's favourite vehicles.
You are talking crap. If the warranty isn't valid then the ACCC would be all over them. Furthermore one does not have to service a new car at a dealership in order to keep the warranty. That nonsense was scrapped years ago.

Jitendra Barai according to EuroNcap the polo is the safest small car in the world with a 96% adult safety rating but the swift has an adult safety rating of 86% which is in the upper tier of that class of car so it's not exactly a death trap.

I dont get why there is so much anti Volkswagen sentiment in the previous comments. I've had my new Polo for a week, and absolutely love it! Its a fully optioned Comfortline, with R-line pack, driver assist pack, and light and sound pack. People shouldnt be so harsh on VW over the diesel emissions test cheating. My basic understanding, is that the cheating was for the American market, where emissions tests are totally nonsensical. In Europe and the rest of the world, emissions are measured against km traveled. While in the US, emissions are measured against the fuel burned.

And yet another paid add for VW, i had two Polo´s as rental cars, both had mechanical issues in the 6 weeks i had them, first one died on the side of the road, second one started flashing engine warning light at 16k KM... changed the cars for a Kia Rio, no problems. Keep praising crap....

The Polo is a dull car, dull image, dull brand. I got a new Polo Tdi Match in 2012. Worst new car ive ever had. Rattled like a tin of plastic cutlery, poor ride quality, poor handling with a total lack of feel from the steering to the point it felt dangerous, absolutely dreadful. Got a Suzuki now. Tough, fun to drive and reliable and a LOT cheaper
