Chick-Fil-A took 5 years to make a terrible sandwich, so I fixed it in about 30 minutes... I just don't get it @chickfila who is this cauliflower sandwich for? It's not vegan, it's barely vegetarian hahaha and it took years. Like what was the thought process here haha This is not a hard sandwich to make. Truly don't get it... anyway here is a freebee for ya. I'm not going to support your restaurant anyway, but if you are going to make a "plant based" sandwich, it should be made entirely out of plants, it's not that hard.
Soo here it is for everyone that wants a really good cauliflower sandwich made entirely out of plants. A real Vegan Chick-Fil-A cauliflower sandwich... and ill be honest, this thing is good!
I got the ingredients for chickfila chicken sandwich from @farmageddon and his chicken video (this is not vegan) • Chick-fil-A Chicken Sa...

As a vegan food truck owner I recommend the country crock olive oil butter (I like the sticks for convenience but they have a tub as well) they also have an avocado oil butter in the same line and its also really good/versatile!
So I use that from time to time as well!! I can second that it's really good! I need to try the avocado oil version! Thanks!!
Agreed! That Country Crock one is 100% like butter! It's my go-to whenever I want butter.
I also buy the country crock one. So good. Tastes like real butter imo.
I’ve used the avocado oil butter sticks in baking DF/GF cookies and making buttercream frosting - I was really impressed! It has kind of a neutral taste or like not overly fake buttery. The cookies I made were a little softer than I intended but it was good!
Yeah it's the best plant based butter out there imo too. That and miyokos but hers is too pricey. Only on fancy occasions 😅
This looks better than any fast food plant based chicken sandwich I've ever seen
Ahhh Mary!! Thank you!! IT was REALLY good!!!
Hi Mary
I came here to say this 👏🏾🤤💯🤗
Oh Mary here 👏😄
dude! thanks for the shout-out! you totally nailed it and that cauliflower looks phenomenal!
Thanks for the idea man!!! You really made it easy to make this sandwich possible!!
Appreciate the subtle nod to Miyoko. ❤ Absolutely stunned to hear what her company did to her. I can’t recommend her cookbook enough! All of her original recipes (including butter) are in there.
Absolutely! I’m just shocked what they did and are doing to her. It really has been bothering me a lot lately.
There was a lot more in the video but I edited it out because I was just ranting about it.
I need to try her butter recipe because it really is one of the best vegan butters
@@SauceStache unfortunately the plant based food industry isn’t immune to corporate greed. Really disappointing.
Absolutely agree about this. It's so sad that someone could do so much work and put in so much time to have it ripped out from under her for greed. They have no idea the impact this is going to have on their business. Most of us have already turned away from them. And I for one luckily have her cookbook. So I will now be making my own butter. I hope she continues on her own somehow. That company helped support her sanctuary too. And they stole it all from her as far as I am concerned. We all need to support her now and not them. No matter how good the product is. And we need to let her and them know it.
Besides likely they will start to use lesser ingredients, and try to maximize profit. She was always about the best product she could produce with the best ingredients and all natural. They are going to ruin that company and their products. It's what Corporate greed does best. So sad.
@@SauceStache Cappy toe lism is a cut throat system. If you’re on top, you’re feeling good. But it can all disappear in a snap. Even just by getting sick or injured. Or a recession, which is another unique part of the system. Interesting trivia, the USSR was not economically affected by the great depression because they had a planned economy. And most people are far closer to the bottom than they will ever be to the top.
I just hope they don't mess around and change the Miyoko recipe for their vegan cheese.
It drives me crazy how many things use eggs and milk that don't even need them.
It's wild right?
Like how Pringles randomly decided to start adding milk. Like what?? It's a chip!
A lot of companies are owned under a conglomerate corporation. They need to sell their products somehow...and this is how they do it.
Common SauceStache dub ngl. Sustainable, properly seasoned, and not made to fund hatred and bigotry. We have no choice but to stan
😂😂. The Dems are tyrants
Country Crock with Olive Oil really has that "cold cream" taste that real dairy butter has, its not greasy, works great for broiling, delish on bread and hold up fabulously in baking, you don't realize that it's not butter, and I'm a butter fiend!! This looks SO good! Thanks for the recipe and inspiration!
Cold cream?
😱
@@ruthejimenez That is so FUNNY!!! I read the words, and immediately remembered my Grams wore cold cream at night!! I'm dying from the laughter! I could have described it better, sorry - but thanks for the laugh!
@@dawnvalarie8104 lol that's so wholesome and so funny when you elaborate on your comment. My granny did the same 🤗😍😂 ah, nostalgia
And country crock is one of the more affordable butter alternatives I’ve found!
I'd never thought about using cauliflower as the meat in a chicken burger. Very cool.
It's pretty dang good!! Different, but still awesome!
Violife just came out with a Vegan butter and it's currently my favorite! Great video, by the way! This looks great!
Ohhh I need to try it!!
Make your own vegan butter: combine two parts deodorized coconut oil to one part avocado oil in the large container of your blender (high speed is preferable). Add some cashew nuts (10% to 15% of the total weight of your oil) and blend on high for about a minute. Near the end, add about a teaspoon of lactic acid and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Add salt to taste. Slowly blend these into the butter until thoroughly mixed and then pour everything out into a Tupperware or other container. Place in the fridge or freezer so that the oils won’t separate and - voilà - instant vegan butter. You can go fancy and culture your cashews instead of using lactic acid, but you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Bon appétit!
Damn, I just made seitan which was imitating like a chicken breast for a sandwich. Next time I'll try it with cauliflower
Ohh no seitan is really great!! its a better replica for chicken than cauliflower for sure... but this sandwich with cauliflower is really good either way!
@@SauceStache I'm sure it is. The seitan I made was loosely based on your recpie for chickpea-gluten chicken sandwich, and it was great.
I never use seitan in a burger. Feels weird to eat bread with bread. Seitan is great for any meals that have rice or potatoes on the side
@@jumano i like thin slices of seitan in bread. I've seen it done in a vegan fast food where I live. I use a lot of spices so it tastes like chicken, so it gives a similar vibe.
@@Pstryyk I agree, Seitan salami when properly seasoned and thinly sliced tastes great in a sandwich or on pizza. However what I mean is that I wouldn't pop a thick chunk of seitan in a burger bun. That's just too much gluten in one bun for my taste.
Butter:
I love Miyoko and the amazing company she built. She and I have been connected for ages… but some of her butters have better options
I am a professional baker and while in the US I always use violife blocks for pastries and violife spread for sandwich stuff like you are using
Also, please keep supporting Miyoko personally. After what the company that she built has done to her, she deserves as much love and respect possible
For sure!! I am 100% on board with supporting Miyoko, the reason I am looking for a new butter is because I do not want to support the company that did that to her. Its awful! If she starts a new brand, I will be one of the first to share!
Same for McD in Germany, they had a vegan Burger that was fine, but it is not available any more.
Now they launched a Beyond Meat Burger with dairy cheese and non vegan sauce, and finally vegan Nuggets... fried in the same oil as the Chicken Nuggets.
Asked for the reason behind it, they answered their goal was to make meatless burgers more approachable for omnivores/flexitarians... 🙄
Gave us all a big wtf moment...
Thanks for your great recipe though!!! Much better. 😀
The reaction to this on Twitter especially was beyond hilarious. My favourites being the USA 'Libertarian' Party who have become the living parodies of themselves everyone always thought they were 😂😂😂😂
It was really wild!! hahaha
Surprised you didn't add water from Mississippi river with that MSG. Would have made this done and dusted, out of this world.
hahaha really funny! I love when people think two things are the same
The sandwich looks good, but the 2 tiny pickles that you've put on the bottom are criminal.
Love the demonic MSG voice. lol
Two things, I believe they use pickle juice in their brine. Also, I would use vegan may for toasted buns, instead of butter.
Man I'd bread a few patties, let them dry up on the counter, freeze them and fry them up to order like a chicken patty when hungry. Yummy. 🤤🤤🤤
I wish I would have hahah ive been craving this again since I made this video hahah
I was so confused about the cauliflower sandwich because are they frying them in the chicken fryers? The sandwich you made looks AMAZING
Thank you!!! I just dont get what they are doing. It makes 0 sense to me hah
I don't think it being fried in the chicken fryers is a problem. Buying a vegan sandwich that is fried in the same fryer as a meat product doesn't mean you're supporting animal agriculture. But the sandwich itself isn't even vegan anyway.
@@suicune2001 It's a problem to vegans who don't want the cross contamination
@@denine5232 I guess but unless someone has a specific allergy, there's no reason to be against it and makes it harder for places to go vegan. The point is to have fewer animals in the fryer to begin with, not be against the fryer.
@@suicune2001 Yeah I totally agree with you on that. Anything to save an animal is definitely a win.
I am not even vegan. Just like the creativity and resourcefulness of this channel.
Monica is an angel
aawwww she is!
i know honestly i love her v much
Can get a firmer texture by parcooking at 130-140 F. According to Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking, parcooking at that temperature releases calcium ions and allows an enzyme to crosslink pectin, making it more resistant to breaking down at higher cooking temperatures. Kenji has an article on Seriouseats about using that technique to improve the texture of apple pie.
It's harder to come by but for vegan butter I love using "Wegman's Plant-based butter". It's more akin to a salted margarine but it's great for frying and buttering buns/bread! Also, great job with the sandwich, it looks great and I'll definitely have to give it a try! I got Thee Burger Dude's fast-food book so I was planning on making his Chik-Fil-A sandwich as well, his is seitan so it'd be good to try both!
Jeez the corporates are really trying it. I'm actually vegan so I'll never be trying any of the plant based attempts at any of the fastfood places but I'm glad they're giving the public something. However, probably not at the reduction of how much Chickens they slaughter every year which should be the point of having "plant based" items on the menu.
As a heart attack survivor, I'm not allowed fried food, so I can't use this recipe. I love that you baked the "Subway" patty and wish this one could also be baked. I've had the same issues with fast food "vegan/vegetarian" food.
Now, here's one for you. Years ago, these vegetarian friends of mine too broccoli stalks with some of the florets attached and breaded them in a batter, then deep fried them and let them rest and the excess oil drained on paper towels. They tasted just like a chicken drumstick.
I can't imagine I would eat at Chik Fil A even if they had a full vegan sandwich but your sandwich I can 100% imagine cooking (and by imagine, I mean I'll work on some myself this weekend!) Excellent grub!
So why do you have to find a new butter instead of Myokos? Their butter is amazing
The company FIRED Miyoko and are now suing her for her own recipes. Its awful
Hostile take over. They essentially bought her out of her own company, then fired her, and now are in the process of trying to keep her from using her own recipes because she might create a new company that competes with "Theirs." They are trying to OWN Myoko.
My feelings exactly!! I've been waiting so long for this "amazing" sandwhich that took Chik-fli-a five years to make, and they give us deep fried cauliflower. 🙃
Nuts right?? like what the heck were they thinking!
@@SauceStache must have been watching too many Gordon Ramsay vegan recipes 🤣
The breading on fried chicken is often the best part of the whole thing anyway, so sure, why not have the breading on something else?
I’m definitely planning to try your version but will probably pass on the chick-fil-a version.
It's super good!!! I need to make more of them!!
How about dredging the cauliflower in potato starch before frying?
I will never give Chick-fil-A a single dollar of my money, so I’m excited to give this version a try! It looks great!!
Right? This trend toward veganizing capitalism isn't helping anyone anyway. I love that SS teaches us to make things for ourselves!
Same. Not going to pretend other corporations don’t do things that are harmful for marginalized groups, but Chick-fil-A is pretty vocal about how lame they are… their sandwiches aren’t even that great! Definitely gonna give this recipe a try tho. Hope yours turns out great!
May I ask why?
@@toastar9554 Great question! The direct and indirect damage they’ve caused to the LGBT community worldwide through massive contributions to certain organizations with specific anti-lgbt missions. While they claim to be out of politics now, the damage has been done. I personally don’t support them for this reason. You can find a Wikipedia article by searching “chik fil a lgbt” if you’d like to learn more.
Still trying to figure out why they used Cauliflower instead of mushrooms. But yours look delicious! Definitely will try it.
Completely unrelated other than I saw you using Oatly, but I'd love to see you making and testing different milks you can make with the almond cow. There's a few new plant milks out there going for a more similar to cows milk vibe, like Not Milk and Silk's Next Milk that are very interesting
Thats a great idea!! I commonly make my own milk... I love the almond cow. This video was made quickly after I read about the sandwich!! But thats a great idea. Ive gotten pretty close to a richer creamier milk in the past with a few tweaks!!! I'll start testing!
You are so right about Not Milk, super yummy and it's shelf stable, gotta love it! My lil' one is hooked on the Chocolate Not Milk.
@@SauceStache We've become pretty fond of Ripple. Silly name but it does taste good.
@@SauceStache next milk is INSANE
@@marksaleski9890 did not like their milks, sadly.
I made this last night, first time I ever deep fried. They were good, they wouldn't fool anybody but they were tasty. I used the whole cauliflower, all the little bits and ended up tripling the recipe bread and cook everything. I didn't have a thermometer for the oil so I just heated canola oil till it bubbled and that seemed to work
Totally!! I don't think they would fool anyone for sure... but they're really GOOD haha
Bummed CFA sandwich isn't even trying to be vegan.
My recipe for crispy cauliflower-stem it, then flour it, cook it in a pressure cooker for a few minutes with a little bit of oil and then air-dry it.
Now if you could do one that's good without the deep fry (air fry instead), I'M IN ❤️
Cauliflower chicken sandwich. Noooooo, I'm throwing it in the trash can
The "MSGGG" caught me off guard and I startled my cat from cackling.
Country Crock Plant Based Butter. Spreadable from the jump. It's great...!
What dinner did you make with the leftover cauliflower out of interest? I usually make 50/50 mash with potato with leftovers, good tip for diabetics.
Oh that sounds good!! We just has them for a side. Made kinda like a general tso sauce with some tofu, rice and then I air fried the cauliflower chunks and tossed it in the sauce before serving! IT was good!
I absolutely LOVE that you are looking for a new vegan butter! Standing up for Miyoko!!!!
Get ‘em Sauce!
Hope so hahaha but this is really good! so maybe
Oh mannn I wanted to try The Chick-Fil-A sandwich soo bad, I'm wondering if I should even bother anymore haha yours looks far superior
Right?! When I heard about it I was STOKED... then I read about it and was like w t f haha but yes Merle!! You should try this! its super good!
PS your holy tofu looked awesome today!!!
I do not think homophobic, anti-abortion chick fila is that invested in providing a plant based sandwich, but there is a vegan restaurant near my house that makes chick fila style chicken sandwiches with vegan "chick'n". I think they have even said they hope to put chick fila out of business. I go there a lot bc they are so close to me. Actually there's also a local sub sandwich place that has chick'n as a vegan option on their sandwiches. But obviously I support any attempts to make it yourself.
Btw the veggie kofta balls in the hare Krishna cookbook the Higher Taste are also cauliflower based. Those recipes aren't always 100 per cent nondairy but as one of the first veg cookbooks I owned, I spent a lot of my early vegan cooking learning process using the recipes in that book.
Kite Hill European Style butter is really good. It's the best spreadable one I found. Violife is also very good.
Thanks I gotta try Kite Hill
Omg that looks amazing. 🤤🤤🤤
For real when I saw that they had come out with a cauli sandwich I was confused. With as much money and sway as they have, I feel they could have made an amazing faux chicken. I mean, the groundwork has already been laid! But I also see why they went this way (some people don't want hyperprocessed foods, this has the appearance of a healthier option, etc). Overall I feel kinda lukewarm about it. If it ever makes it to Arkansas, I'll try it for sure. If not, whatever.
Lots of animal products in their plant based cauliflower sandwich. And nothing about a deep fried sandwich is heathier. Delicious though😊. So they made an unhealthy plant based sandwich that's 25% more expensive than the chicken sammich, and that no plant based eater will eat. So weird.
Thank you!!! Yeah like im not against the use of cauliflower, just odd that they take the plant and dip it in milk, eggs, and butter hahah really weird to me. It takes out 75% of people that would have tried this in the first place. For the healthier option it makes a little sense, but in the end its still a fried thing sandwich hahah
either way... this sandwich I made was really dang good and now I want it again hahah
If you've never seen Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken, I'd highly recommend it. They bring up this very thing. People supposedly want to eat healthier but then choose the fried chicken sandwich over grilled every time. lol
@@suicune2001 that's interesting. I saw the first but not the 2nd so I'll have to check it out!
@@suicune2001
Ironically I like the grilled chicken over fried. Not so much for health, I wish that was the motive, but they just taste better. Most of the restaurants I've eaten at, their "fried" batter isn't seasoned very well, so it makes for a bland sandwich.
the fast food one will never be vegetarian unless it comes from a pure veg establishment, because otherwise they will use the same oil as is used on rotting carcasses; hence, the beauty of Maoz in The Netherlands and other all veg establishments; sadly, the US fast food market is largely devoid of such places.
You can have chick fil a without supporting chick fil a
Cauliflower is incredibly versatile, and it's a cancer fighter. No brainer, win/win.
Wow! As always another fantastic video. Thanks for all the hard work! @chickfila what's the deal? Is there some sort of contract with milk and egg suppliers? That's all I can think because there's no point to that sand which.
This man needs to be working with chain fast food restaurants. Simple 30 minutes for something that took them years. I mean honestly this guy is pumping out recipes that seem to be fairly easy to an at home cook so I don't understand why restaurants make things so difficult. This is coming from a meat eater so that's saying something. Honestly I love these videos even though I'm not vegan I find them extremely interesting.
Edit. As a long time fan and subscriber I love Monica's input on all these recipes. The both of them are just so real and say it how it is. Even if something doesn't turn out as planned they are always so honest and mark gives us what he would do next time that really makes this quality content. Not intimidating at all.
I think this means the key part of Chick Fil A's chicken sandwich is the breading. The plants!
My 11 yr old son showed me this today. I plan on making it tomorrow! You look great btw.😊
My recipe for a vegan Chik-fil-A sauce is Vegan Mayo, Maple Syrup, mustard, a few dashes of pepper sauce (like Crystal), and last, but most importantly, Liquid Smoke. .. its unbeatable
The absolute best vegan butter IMO is made by Naturli if you can get it. The block version tastes just like how I remember Lurpak tasting. It's not the cheapest vegan butter out there.. but awesome for a treat!
Love this recipe btw.. will definitely be making this one :D
Oohhhhh I never tried that or even heard of it!! I gotta find it now! And thank you!!! It's SUPER good!!
Chick Fil A definitely uses peanut oil.
Yeah I was going to... but I couldn't find a single jug of peanut oil at 3 different grocery stores! It's been like this for a while here in orlando. Maybe im just missing it, but Publix, Spouts, and fresh market were out the few times I looked

I suspect the "complicated" part of the recipe with Chick-Fil-A is less getting a good tasting recipe and more avoiding having to overhaul their supply chain too much.
nice they dip it in eggs and milk and coat in wheat that would be a nightmare in my stomach
its a nightmare sandwich hahahaha but yeah me too. I can handle gluten, but not milk or any dairy.
Violife plant butter is really good and comes in a block like Miyokos.
5:53 miyokos is the best butter brand. I actually use pili nuts instead of butter - but that's way more expensive. Maybe you can do macadamia, but there's no 'brand' better than this - unless you want to go back to earth balance - yuck palm oil. Then there's I believe ralphs brand and violife - none of them are as good, sorry. I looked. I get miyokos isn't the best - but unfortunately it's the best we got.
I made this. Was delicious! I think a double coat would be a good idea to make it more crispy. I ended up using the scraps for making cauliflower nibbles which were much better than the steaks because they absorb the flavour more.
I am definitely going to try this one, it looks so delicious. I have watched a lot of your videos to add plant base meat replacements with my meals. I probably will say that I am about 96% vegan now since November. Thank you so much and keep up the great work with these new recipes. 🍔❤

Okay, I must try this. I’m so appreciative for your continued flow of ideas 💡 and deliciousness.
Chik-fil-a sauce's key flavors are mayo, mustard, paprika, and smoky bbq sauce. I've made it at home and it's spot on. It tastes nothing like ranch to me even tho they say it's in there.
This guy needs and deserves his own Food Network show
That's ridiculous that it's taken them 5 years to create this 🤔 and they still haven't got it right. Not that I go there. Yours looks so much better!

Oh totally soy milk powder would also work great!!
This looks amazing. I should've known Chik-fil-a would mess up something that could be done so simple. I can't wait to try this. I just so happen to have two heads of cauliflower to use this on too!
Chic filet made the cauliflower patty more complicated than need be.
I use country crock plant butter
You could make the same with coated baked tofu. Oil free.
Violife and Country Crock are the best, I'd say.
I like Earth Balance Soy Free way better than Miyoko's for everyday use. Miyoko's has a nice taste but it doesn't work out for all my recipes and its been extremely crumbly every time I've gotten it
Earth balance is my favorite vegan butter! I have tried every one I can get my hands on and Earth balance wins every time :)
Vegans and Vegetarians need to know that they probably aren't getting "pure" options at these fast food joints. Your Impossible Whooper and your Grilled Cheese Animal Style (In-and-Out) come into contact with animal products during prep. These companies are not going have a segregated prep station to make plant-based or otherwise non-meat versions of their items.
But the business model isn't trying to cater to Vegans/Vegetarians anyway. They are trying to make the most of the current trend of carnivores wanting to eat less meat. They aren't flagging "us" down. We aren't their target market. There's no version of a Big Mac that's going to make me go out of my way to eat at McDonalds again after 35+ years.
We are all better "served" by making our own fast-food through the auspices of Sauce Stache and Thee Burger Dude!
There is no ethical problem in eating a vegan burger that was cooked on the same pan as a non-vegan burger.
This sandwich looks amazing!!😋🤤
the pressing and lifting of toes to press the filet is only for chicken LOL its to spread the breast out completely, from a real use case scenario this sounds really hard to do "fast" and at scale but would be awesome to see this refined!
You need to discard "light years ahead" and incorporate "streets ahead" into your lexicon.
i made this and i had to take like 10 min to reflect on how amazing it was afterward! thank you :)
ahhhh thats awesome!! Thank you!! Im so glad you liked it!!
I'm gonna try this recipe with one of those mushrooms you use on here

You are so welcome!
man, when i watch these videos i always wonder what the calories look like on these when you make a vegan meal vs what its trying to be
Why not earth balance for your butter?
I don't eat at chick Fila anymore since going vegan but even if I wasn't a vegan I still wouldn't eat there
you know chicken seitan would be great in this :)
I really like your cauliflower seasoning and your breading looks spectacular! Corporations have a panel that discuss food market viability and I'm sure they eventually all have to come to agreement based on potential sales and successful longevity of each sandwich. Remember that they not only want the product to taste great, but they want to reach a huge market. It is then tested on potential locations for viability. Profit drives their discovery, not ease of creation, so adjustments to recipes takes time (years) as do reintroduction into potential markets.
Oh yes totally get that, wondering though who they thought would buy this sandwich regularly if its not for most vegetarians, anyone dairy free, or any vegans which is a majority of people that would buy a plant based sandwich. I feel like they spent years to come up with a sandwich that will most likely fail ini their test market and never be released. Thats just me.
When KFC did the test market for their plant based chicken there was lines around the block for days. This has produced almost 0 excitement and everyone is saying it's just not that great.
I wonder if like mixing the califlower in a thin film of vital wheat gluten mixed with lots of water would stiffen it up a bit but then again vwg has an aggressive flavour that might ruin the recipe
