Thanks, 2008 Reg cab, love it, and am saving $$ and learning. Did the starter today, alternator later this week too. Top bolt was a pain, but pretty much straight forward process. Thank You
well done sir. Did you remove the exhaust manifold first. Your view of the starter is so much clearer and accessible compared to other vids. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Can you tell me what was going on before you changed the starter?? I have a reg cab 2005 also, hard start thought it was fuel pump injector, but had an air leak all things with fuel was good. Fixed the air leak but still hard crank.
The issue I had was a while back so I’ll do my best to recall. I was having issues where I’d wake up several mornings and try to start the truck. I’d turn the key to start it but got no response and the truck wouldn’t start up. At that point I replaced my battery and still had issues starting. I figured it was the starter and possibly +/- wires and after replacing the starter, I had no issues. Specifically more about the hard crank/ start. I have noticed this model Tacoma takes A LOT of effort to crank and seems to take longer than other vehicles I’ve driven. Almost feeling like it drags on to finally let off the key from the starting position. And at a cold start, the truck will immediately rev up to 2500 rpm and slowly climb down to a normal operating rpm of 700. Not sure why it does this and why it gets so loud, but it’s done this since I got it 5 years back. I say the hard start and loud cold start is normal for this model Tacoma. Hope this helps you. What problems were you having with your starter? I've been having problems with my truck not starting. It only starts when it wants to. I put a new battery and still having the same problem.
Well I had the same problem with my truck not starting, so I had it inspected and the (2) mechanics told me it may be the starter or alternator. I replaced them both but my truck still had issues starting. I had bought a new battery not too long ago so I knew that wasn’t the issue. BUT after a quick inspection, I noticed the positive/ negative terminals had some corrosion. I cleaned the terminals with a wire brush and made sure they had a proper connection. Ever since my truck has started every time. So clean off the terminals on the battery and the +/- connection points because that may be the issue! Hope this helps!
Hello Friend..hope all is well. Did your starter make a grinding noise at startup for a second or two before it gave out on you? I am trying to figure out if it is one of my pulleys(tensioner, upper or lower) or my starter. I already checked all 3 pulleys and noticed that 2 of 3 have bearing noise instead of a smooth roll but i am not convinced that this would be culprit of the start up grinding noise. Thank you for your time.
Hey man! Sorry for such a late response. No I didn’t have that issue or any grinding noises before I replaced it I just noticed a lack of power when cranking on my truck. By now, I hope all is well with your truck!
thanks for uploading this. i was like "man fuck all that, i'm gonna take it in" but this looks way easy just as easy as the alternator. had the alternator go bad before so i changed both that and the battery still no go so starter is last in line.
I've got a 2011 Tacoma with a 2.7 l 4 cylinder in it. I just replaced the battery a couple days ago. It's still clicking when I turn the key. One click, then there's a space of time, one to two seconds with nothing, then the truck will start. Is this a good indication that the starter is going out?
First, see if there’s any corrosion on the battery terminal connections and make sure they are all fully clean and connected. However, your battery may be good but your alternator might be going bad because your alternator charges your battery. But if both are good, it may be your starter. To be sure, I’d recommend going to your local auto parts store and ask to get a free battery/alternator/starter test. I hope this helps man.
New battery. Clean terminals and cables. RPM's are holding steady at idle so I don't think it's the alternator. I hope the starter isn't shot. It happened 3 times today. I own a pest control company. I start the truck 16-22 times a day. 2011 Tacoma. It's been a great truck. 194k on it. Hopefully I can keep it another 100k.
Funny story, the starter and alternator were never bad, I went to three mechanics and told me that both were the reason for not starting. So I took their advice and replaced both. A week later my taco did not start AGAIN so at that moment i figured it could be a electrical connection. So I checked them all. The cause for not starting was not the starter or alternator but instead it was corroded terminals. Whether or not they were an uncommon procedure, I still got video content out of it and was able to help someone down the line with these couple of videos!
im waiting on the time when i need a new battery cable i just have a battery shim on the positive terminal at the moment because without it my cable wouldnt stay tight. works good even reusing it when i shouldnt and its fine jajaj i work my tacoma hard too
@@JoseAutomotive Hey man thanks for asking. It was the positive terminal that was corroded on the battery. After thinking it was the starter and alternator, I grabbed a wire brush and cleaned the outside and inside of the terminals (where it clasps onto the battery). After I cleaned them up I never had that issue. Also look into a batter terminal cleaner. They sell them at auto parts stores and do a great job cleaning the gunk on battery terminals!
wow this was much easier than i thought it would be, always thanks to THE YOTA DUO!!
I’m very appreciative your help with this project, thanks
Great video, thanks for showing closeups and explaining small things that need to be done before doing the removal. good work!!!
I am glad I could help. Thank you!
Thanks for making these videos especially for the regular cab, just bought one recently and will sure use your videos in the future. Keep it up!
I appreciate that man, I’m always happy to help!

Aye man thank you. Glad I could help!
Love the content man and thanks for showing some love to the 5 lug. Keep up the great work!
We appreciate the love and support man! We couldn’t have done it without you all! Thank you for watching our videos and subscribing to the channel!
Awesome video and great job in explaining how to change the starter
Glad it helped!

This is the 2.7 liter inline 4, the starter is on the drivers side, the exhaust is on the passenger side. Could you be thinking of the V6?
Best video on topic 👏
Thanks for the support!
Thx for these videos. You don't see much out there for 5 lugs. Hoping you get an intake sometime and give your POV on the sound and power. Thx again
Thanks man! That’s why I started my channel :) Maybe one day when my girlfriend lets me install an intake haha!
Ayeee congratulations on 100 subscribers!!
Thanks bro!

great...I'll DIY and save some $...! THANKS!
No problem!
Is that a 4 or 6 cylinder?
It is the 4 cylinder 2.7 liter.
Would the steps be the same for a double cab?
Yes, I believe so. As long as you have a 4-cylinder engine years 2005-2015.
do you have one 4 alternator?
Yes I do! Check out my videos on my channel.
Good
good video but why replace starter with alternator lol not common procedure at all and how did u determine old alt. was bad
