    I play with a Wilson burn fst 95, great racquet with the right customization. It has a leather grip, 6 grams at 3 and 9, and around another 8-10 grams at the handle ( i like heavy racquets). The final specs are 346 gr unstrung (370 with a grip and a full bed of Proline 2), around 9 points headlight (strung). When i was un collage the weight was even higher, around 355 gr unstrung , i reduced the weight and added more lead to the head, i like it more now.

      I had to reduce the weight as well as I started to coach more. Had to save the arm coaching all summer lol

    I also added lead to the top guard and inside the handle. Got my Babolat Pure Drive Team from 285g to 330g and the balance point to about 0.28pt HL (so approximately 0pts balance?).
    Anyway it felt quite powerful and heavy but the feel wasn't really there, maybe it has to do with the tension which I feel it's quite low (bad stringer made an error while stringing, got my stick mixed up), but what I feel is the main cause of the feel issue is switching from a 95sq in frame & a 16*19 bed (Prince) to a 100sq in frame & a 16*19 bed on the new Babolat PD-Team.
    So another funny thing I experienced was that I actually got a bit of discomfort in my arm and tennis elbow from using the modified Babolat PD-Team which was at 330g. Which was truly weird because my Prince Textreme Tour 95 is about 355g and I have never gotten tennis elbow from it.
    The only thing I suspect is the swing weight of the racquets.
    The Babolat PD-Team is 285g unstrung but with a swing weight of 317g while the Prince Textreme Tour 95 is 340g strung but with a swing weight of 325g.
    My Prince isn't customized but my Babolat was (I've since removed some lead and got it down to 310g) so it would mean the customizing the Babolat to 330g most likely took the swing weight up hence the tennis elbow.
    I've got a question, do you think future racquets in the 95 - 100sq in range would be 18*20 & 18*19?
    I think those two bed designs give the perfect balance of power and control.
    For me it makes no sense having a 16*19 bed on a 100sqin frame.
    Maybe it's just me.

    • @MikeKomen
      @MikeKomen  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for sharing your customization journey Joseph! To answer you question I think that 95 racquets will become more and more rare and so will the tighter string patterns like 18x20 as the game focuses more on big hitting and big top spin.

    One thing I don't hear discussed much is the difference in playing characteristics between an evenly balanced frame with weights added to both tip and base, versus an evenly balanced frame with weight added only to the middle.

    My kid just switched from 16x19 (blade) to 18x19 (burn 100s, and pro staff 97uls 2017 model). She uses 4-3/8 grip however, the new racquets just ordered came in 4-1/8. Using 2x shrink sleeve on the grip, built up to 4-3/8. 17grams at the top of the handle just before the V. Lead putty in the bottom of the grip. Her old racquets are 4pt HL, the new setup is 12pt HL at 345grams. May add some lead at 3-9 but for now she loves the new 12pt HL setup.

    I'd love to buy a racket with a good net tension, most tennis rackets I've owned, once you hit the ball the net moves. What rackets would you recommend to me..best one I've ever used was the slazenger twenty7 tim henman one.

    • @MikeKomen
      @MikeKomen  3 роки тому

      Hi Nebojsa, I think you mean the strings move after you hit? If you want less movement on the string bed most of that come down to the strings you use and tension. Use a “rough” textured string at a higher tension and you will have less movement on the string bed. You can also opt for a more dense string pattern like an 18x20 string pattern racquet that will further reduce the movement of the strings. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    my biggest problem with my racquets (and it kinda has been my whole life - i'm a kinda retired competitive player who is 28 now pursuing a veterinary career) has been grip shape. i used to play with prince graphites which i loved but were discontinued so eventually i started looking around, played with some yonexes and now i've been maining a head prestige for the longest time. however, i hate the shape of head grips. if you notice, they are kind of oval shaped octagons compared to the more symmetrical octagon shaped grips found on a lot of other racquets including prince, yonex, babolat, and a lot others. i know there are professional companies that can customize your grip shapes but they are expensive and i'm not really a competitive player who cares that much any more so i've just been going with the stock grip shape since i've really fallen in love with the prestige pro otherwise (even stock! i used to put weights at 3 & 9 o clock on my prince and yonex racquets). i wonder if there is any way i can mod my grip shapes on my own...

    • @MikeKomen
      @MikeKomen  3 роки тому +1

      That’s a good point. I don’t know if anything you can do for that but if you like the more sharp edges/more defined grip I found the Dunlop cx200 was great for that. Im my review of it I said the grip is either a love or hate. I think you would love it. Thanks for watching!

      This is actually a very good practical approach (“handle first”) if one wants to customise by feel rather than getting into weight, balance point and swingweight specifics. The alternative way is “head first” ie: add lead tape to the hoop until the plough through feels right. Then add weight to the handle to counterbalance.
