It would be a honor to get fired by George Jones whether you worked for him or not.
Hank Williams Jr.’s song “The Ballad of Hank Williams” (duet with Don Helms) contains the line “He fired some people that he didn’t even know”. Hilarious story. Thank you Mr.Gibbs.
Otis, thank you for turning me on to so much wonderful music. I come from the world of jazz and jamband music. I've got some Steve Earl and Lyle Lovett records, but that was about the extent of my Country and Western collection. One day I tried one of your Kenny Vaughn interviews and that was it. Now I'm basically binge watching your whole channel, punctuated with other videos referenced on your channel. Thanks dude. You've opened up my ears, and as a music lover and musician, there is a real value to what I am getting here. ❤
Congratulations Otis on reaching 100k subscribers
The title got me on this one. Funny stuff. George was a nut.
Great interview. The community of music nerds salute you.
Fantastic stories!
Thanks, y'all 🙏🏻
I grew up reading liner notes and lyrics.
Be good to you 🙏🏻🤍

I have quit many more times than I have been fired, but I hold each as my passage on the road and beats living a howl. ☘

Thats right! You gotta git to that backflash. How this ends is perfect.
Sound stage! I spent many a moon over there as an intern. Brings back nice memories
Steve is so right about album notes...thats how we learned about those great players ...man I still look to find out who is doing what (hard to find in the streaming days...)
There's an interview somewhere with Ralph Emery and Ray Price where Ralph tries to talk to Ray about going pop and all the strings and orchestrations and everything and Ray wouldn't have it,, he did NOT like it and got pissy and Ralph quickly moved on.. lol
Very cool 🐿️😎🐿️
Back in the mid 80’s, I worked in the metal stud/ drywall industry. Living in and around Tyler Texas. One of the guys was from Center Texas, his name was Tuffy Web. Tuffy claimed to have been a guitar player for George. Tuffy was a huge drinker, and claimed his drinking was his reason for still in the drywall business. Tuffy could play, he brought his guitar and amp one day, on a jobsite in East Texas…
Who knows Tuffy Web
Get a photo of that building...have them... like a silhouette in a busy cross walk setting...it will sell like crazy..untold lives were change because of them.
I remember to the hr when Martry Robbins died, just got off of American Airlines, 90 days test at Fort hunter Leggett, eating micron dust off of tanks trails...walking down the airport when I heard Marty Robbins died, from a person at the lounge.
steve fishell ... what a nice fellar...truly...thanks Otis
George Jones would fire me anytime and I would be okay with it.
❤
The Judy Collins album, "Who Knows Where the Time Goes", was truly amazing.
--- I was so impressed, I bought Judy's next album, but wasn't impressed. The following album lacked the "border country" vibe.
--- "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" seemed to originate OUT OF THE BLUE, never to return, and was the first time I had ever heard of "Leonard Cohen". Judy's version of "Bird on the Wire", I presume Buddy Emmons on steel, blew away Cohen's version of his own song.
Hehehe good ole George..... I'm sure there were many others 😂
Live at Dance town usa
That's it! His tone during tender years makes you heart shiver, so absolutely amazing.
