Great video. Take us with you on that journey back to AM5 with another video series please. Compare your 2024 experience to the 2023 experience thoroughly. This would be so helpful especially bc you kept the AM5 parts from last year. So seeing if the same parts work fine now would be great

Good idea, I would do the same if I was having major issues with one CPU or manufacturer, I'd just switch for a while, let them fix it or release new parts before going back to them. I switched to AMD mostly because of Intel's ridiculous temps which started on 7th gen I believe, and now they've got ridiculous power usage, no consumer CPU should use more than 150w let alone 250w and up to 350w at times.

Great video as always Erock, I have a quote to sum up the situation...
"There's not too many times you get a chance to make a second first impression" (Jesse Palmer)
Intel has had 3 generations of processors on this platform (Z690/790).
The forums/reddit/Facebook have been scattered with people reporting issues like this dating back to the release of 12th gen. Intel is on a 3rd impression if you will.
I also find it ironic that near the end of the platform they are starting to acknowledge the issues that the architecture/platform has, but go on to blacklist people like Bryan and probably even myself if I was to guess with the success of my one video last year.
Don't get me wrong I still use this platform everyday, and out of some sick toxic labor of love (literally months of tuning/optimizing) I enjoy my machine, but...
you are right, NOBODY should go through what you, myself, or many of these users in the comments have said. Even if it's not everyone experiencing issues, the number of actual complaints shouldn't be as high as they are.
Thanks again for the time you put into this.

    • @ErockOnTech
      @ErockOnTech  5 місяців тому +4

Thank you for the comment man! Yeah that quote reminds me of an old friend of mine. He used to say “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” Very similar!
As for the blacklist, I’m sure I’m on the list now haha 🤣
Honestly man, I rather just make the content I want to make without any strings attached. So if I have to pay for the hardware, then so be it. No company gets ahead by trying to suppress reviews. If anything, it just fires up the creator even more! Well, at least it does for me anyway.

I'm still rocking the AM4 platform an 5800X3D. When the newer platforms (AM5 and socket 1700) released I could not justify buying into the AM5 platform as I still get great framerates at 1440P (my monitor native resolution). There was no way I was going to buy the Intel socket 1700 platform because they had already fallen behind in micron width and with their newer platform they decided to pump the power limits to get the equivalent AM5 performance level. AMD did that also a while ago with bulldozer when it was the loser. I don't care about who the fastest is I only care about who is the most sable, that's been AMD for many generations of CPU now. It looks like Intel still has a long way to go still if they persist with these silly e-cores on the desktop PC platform, is intel still just fobbing us all off with the 4 core platform by hiding it with a few e-cores !?!?!

New subscriber to your channel and I was so pleased I found this video. I have just bought a mid range gaming PC upgrading from my old AM2 TR 2950x pc. I say mid range as, even though I went with the Rizen 7 7800x3d, I will only be running it with an RTX4070 GPU and a cheaper AM5 Gigabyte MB. I saw so many conflicting videos - do this - don't do that - don't buy this - don't buy that and then you came along and said "Hey - everyone is different - game how you want and just enjoy what you can afford" and seeing you go back to the 7800x3d has calmed my worries. That is such a waste man... I have a 5900X too and if you tune thePBO limits: TDP EDC and TDC limits, along with the Curve Optimizer, you can it to run 4.7 with 70C or so. But it can boost as high as 4.9 in idle loads. You do have to turn off Asus multi core enhancement, as that pushes too much power into the chip. Tune the TDP to limit your chip to run at 70 C under full load - so it depends on your cooler.
It is a waste, because after 70C the chip starts to reduce its clock speed more, due to heat. You are leaving 11C of performance on the table there...
My chip has 4 cores that cant do -30 on the Curve Optimizer, but the rest can... (its -4 -16 -24 and -28, the rest has -30). So there is a lot of trail and error to figure out the CO settings, but if you get a WHEA error on a crash, it will tell you what core crashed and which CO setting you need to raise for more stability.
FYI, CO will reduce the voltage for a given clock speed. So your chip runs cooler, and thus it will also boost higher at the same time.

Intel pushes their hardware to thermal limits that just damages the silicone over time and performance has to be dropped over time to prevent super annoying lockups. They just beat the hell out of their silicone and they don't give a crap. They just want to make it to the finish line first. Honestly all things considered AMD seems to be the better choice for someone who just wants a gaming machine. On top of AM5 likely pushing 3 total mainstream generations or X3D generations at this point makes it a really appealing buy. I have a 12700K and I love it but I also put in a ton of time tuning it and after seeing the insane ASUS overvolting that I observed before I got into it makes me wonder how many people who don't know but keep getting told "Buy a K+Z Intel..." could be in for some real issues down the road. It starts with the i9's but we'll see what happens to this generation.

Hmmmm.... The lag issue sounds like a clock stretching issue, where the chip slows down the clock speed because it lacks enough voltage (instead of pushing it and hard crashing).
idk if it was tried before, but you should be able to load optimized defaults, then set XMP.
Then find the load line clibration and set it to the recommended 4 on ASUS mobos.
Then set the iccMax at 400A (to prevent degradation of the chip).
Then find the AC/DC loadline settings. It will tell you it asks for a mOhm setting. Use the same number on both: 0.5
That latter will likely solve your issue. If not, then SVID intel fail safe and enable IA and SA CEP.
The reason why I think its mainly to do with your AC/DC loadline, is because the AC setting undervolts your chip (sometimes starving it of voltage), while the DC setting will boost the voltage provided by the VRM. Asus sets it 0.3/0.95 before the baseline profile drama erupted. You can check for these values in HWinfo64.
The AC/DC should have the same value, since its a calibration value involved in the voltage regulation between chip and motherboard.
If the chip is starved of voltage by too low AC, it will clock stretch - and the system level interrupts your mouse causes, are probably running into this issue at idle. I imagine, if you game or have something running on the cpu, your mouse stutter is gone.
My 14700K settled on a 0.46/0.46, which is effectively a minor undervolt, but its perfectly stable now. As the chip ages in 10 years time, it might degrade slowly and I may need to raise this number to maintain stability.
For reference, before mobos started to mess with the AC/DC loadline, they did listen to intel spec. My 8700K as 0.5/0.5 set in bios.
A nifty way to overclock the voltage and mess with the voltage curve of the intel chip - but the initial intel base profiles didnt even fix their AC/DC values.

No doubt, especially if your exclusively gaming AMD 7800x3d is better for most games. And from what I read and seen the 700x3d 8 cores 16 threads are enough to do pretty much anything even video editing. Plus, on intel right now what's the point paying for an unlocked CPU if it can't operate higher than base specs. Both companies at times have had problems. Honestly, I have had better luck with intel processors over last 20 years counting laptops and desktops. But not afraid and wouldn't hesitate to go AMD. Cause the AMD CPU's I had problems with were from laptops long ago. Now its intel running hot. If I was building, I would defiantly do a AM5 lets all hope the 9000 series is good or better than rumors say.To keep pressure on both for improvement and competitive prices.

It's great to see this video, I currently have a 3960x threadripper, it's an excellent processor, but for video editing and occasional games, I see that it doesn't perform well, so I started researching a lot, and saw that Intel for video editing is better than the amds precisely because they have the igpu that accelerates some codecs that not even the RTX4090 supports, and looking at some benchmarks the 14900k for example in almost all things is better than my treadripper, but I also know that it already The fifteenth generation is soon to be launched, I hope they fix these problems because I'm looking to migrate to Intel or that AMD launches something similar to Intel's quick sync, then it would be perfect.

They must set AMD 7800 x cpu voltage to 1.35000 or your mother' board and cpu will toast

To be honest I didnt knew about your channel before few minuts ago, when this video was in my home as suggestion.. Also I dont think the matter is who talks about it first or not, because the more people talk about it the better and faster this will be solved (hopefully)... That said, I cant help but laugh at intel now for all of this trouble they are having, I mean do you remember when they were pushing microsoft so hard to perform better with windows 11? with the scheduler optimization while pushing them away from amd? well... Kinda funny how tables have turned, and its all by themself. it just backfired at them..

Damn bitching about nobody watching your videos, twice in one video.
    Seems I'll take your advice.

    1. Re-enable E cores
    2. Re-enable iGPU
    3. Re-enable XMP
    4. Set PL1=PL2=253W, ICCMAX=307A
    5. Re-enable core parking
    6. Disable HVCI in Windows (aka memory protection)
    7. Intel CPU now works like it should.
    8. Remove this video.

Lmao 🤣. Remove this video? You mad bro? A user shouldn’t have to set all those parameters. It should just work. After all, isn’t that what all your Intel fanboys have been preaching for years. “It just works!” Yeah right.

Yeah, and it still doesn't work like it should! I have multiples of both platforms and I'm ready to throw Intel (and Asus) in the trash!

@@ErockOnTech a USER ALSO shouldn't disable E cores or disable iGPU when it is HVCI that should be disabled.
Intel latency issues - there arent any of those in Linux - therefore it must be Windows doing it's (not Intel, but Windows ones) shananagans. HVCI - perfectly explanins what exactly those shananagans are.

"Very" believeable, as much as L3 cache is there to look pretty.

what you describe is intel selling chips that cant dp what they are supposed to do, being pushed too far by motherboard manufacturers and everybody expwcted to work normally amd now they expect ypu to turn off features, lose performance they sold and disable cores they sold you and hopefully the bios updates will fix all the hardware probñems
in contrast, amd had what seems some rough bios versions that got replaced and all is well now
intel is only worth the time for reviewers, almost 700 dollars for a problem
