Best Warcraft Hands down. Back when Blizzard wasnt trash like today. Here we have dark, aggressive battle music and dark bloody Artworks in the manual and no stupid cartoonish artworks of today.
While it had some cool atmosphere and characters, the very clunky mechanics and graphics hold it back compared to WC2 or WC3. That said, a remake with modern graphics and mechanics (like being able to select more that 4 units at a time :P ) would make for an awesome game. Honestly Blizzard should remake WC1 and 2 with the WC3 Reforged engine.
Yeah, i still play wc3. The hero-factor was a gamechanger. But the feeling of fear as a child playing wc1 is unbeaten. And this soundtrack had a huge impact on that.

I was playing as an Orc I was surrounded on an island there were human catapults on the other side there was one way out of the island that was through a forest and as soon as I would do that I would be overwhelmed since my mine was out and I only had a certain amount of gold I thought I was done for that all changed once I researched and summed demons with unholy armour.
My liege.....damn this music brings back memories. I remember i was Humans, i used about 4 footmen up against the Daemon 1 by 1 and the Daemon wiped them all out, epic!
well dark sight isn't that useful, but raising skeletons could be useful for creating a barrier for other spearmen when the front lines(of either side) die and if you unholy armor the skeles then those human troops are gonna be toast. or dark vision could be useful depending on the map you were playing because you couldn't freely explore some areas or I loved this game because it is one of the most balanced games I feel ive ever played yet has enough differences to create different playing styles or preferences.

I remember some games had that if you had no sound card...like the little internal beep when you turn the power to the computer on- but it would play those like different tones as "sound" for games if you had no speakers. Don't know if Warcraft had it though.

Actually, I find W2 tracks more aggressive, since they're more dynamic. But W1 tracks are darker, and that theme suits the game better - especially once you remember how it ended canonically...

I first played a demo version of this. Back when game devs put free demo versions of their games on game magazines (nowadays they charge 60$ for those...). Bought it and played it on my old Windows 95 PC (together with Diablo 2). Man, i feel so old...
Though this game ranks among Wolfenstein 3D, System Shock, Star Wars: X-Wing, and Age of Empires+Rise of Rome as good games now deemed outdated by their sequels if not spiritual successors, you can't deny the fact that the lore (yes, even Wolf and AoE) and the music of said games are still top tier.
My fav tracks of all Waracrafts are Warcraft II's songs. III's are definetely the least remarkable. I's are fucking great! Though not as developed as II's, I's songs are the darkest. I fucking love this vibe. War is dark, war is terror. It's good to hear glory and epicness but this is frightening. These songs reminds us we're going to battle and winning or losing it... it's terrifying. Love it.
It's too bad you cannot have the CD version of the music playing as you play WC1 (through normal means). The remastered version on the CD is still superior to most casual midi sound fonts out there (And even with a really good sound font set... it's still gambling if it'll work out right).
Tracks 2, 3 and 4 = Human Tracks 5, 6 and 7 = Orc Track 1 = orc defeat in Warcraft 2 (no idea if its also part of the Warcraft 1 soundtrack or just added by mistake)

To me it seems like the general direction PC gaming industry has been directed since the early 90s. Lightening the tone from grim dark or adult themes towards more colorful / softer approach underlines AAA gaming companies decision to try and attract younger (mainstream) audiences.
Warcraft 1 and 2 and 3 had the best music.. World of Warcraft has music not even close to as goods it used to be. Sound budget must have been cut.. same as diablo 1 and 2.. because diablo 3 had music that suffered.
+Shaa Isis same with many games, graphics poor moneys into graphics but sound department, that used to be very important to the immersion, is cut. What a shame. Blizzard is the most guilty to this imo, their sound department back in the day were crazy good

charon128 Second song is Menu music from war 1 and was not in war 2. That first song was very different from either the war 2 cd or the war 2 midi with either microsoft or soundblaster soundfonts. I don't know how much of this is really from orcs and humans cd but it's clearly not from war 2 cd.
