Hey LexVance. Do you know when the New Refrigerant comes out to Replace R22 and R410A ❓❓And Can we still install R410A System After the New refrigerant came out ❓❓
Brother lex....you so chill. It's alright to get uptight during hurricane. Keep good diy info coming sir!
Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for the video, we just started to get these Goodmans here in San Antonio, I installed 5 in the past month and they are so quiet and efficient. I didn't know that what that was, a hard start. By the way the only caps I use are Titans, they have a little bit more punch.
Thank you so much for watching!
AmRad, Titan HD, TradePro Green, BMI etc American made. AmRad has a 5-year warranty. Titan HD is the most affordable. All Chinese devices get replaced. I also change the capacitors and contacts for my clients during a PM or repair. Plus surge protector on the disconnect.
hey skid thanks for the video keeping them rolling be safe have a great rest of the Labor day weekend 👍😎
Thank you so much for watching!
Heat and humidity can be brutal in the south. Learn something new every time I watch your videos. Happy Saturday dog.
Thank you so much for watching!
I feel the same way on the safety Bob subject 🤣 That & the dumb work orders that come in during a major event like this. We had a half day cuz it didnt reach South Carolina until around 7 or 8 in the evening. I'm glad all is well with you & your property. All is well here too. We did have a tornado in the area from the storm where it flipped a car on the roadway which was crazy but everyone was alright. Stay safe & talk with you soon bro 🛠️👍
Good to hear from you Rich!
Glad your safe and sound down there
Thank you so much for watching!
Love the videos man keep doing what you do
Thank you so much for watching!
What scares me the most about hurricanes is that they spin off a lot of tornadoes 🌪️
So true! Hurricanes make me edgy. Plus, I don't sleep good the night before landfall. It's like you've got to try to sleep knowing you're going to get punched in the mouth the next day and you can't avoid it. 😆
@@LexVance I feel your pain. I’m from SW Louisiana we were hit by hurricane Laura…. 149 mph winds, cat 4. It was almost a cat 5. The eye of the storm went directly over my city. Then a few weeks later, no to long after we finally got power back, hurricane Delta hit. It was a cat 2. All it did was kick us when we were down. I’m glad you are ok brother. Stay safe out there.
Glad you’re Safe man !!!!
My Goodman A/C just blows room temperature air inside, outside unit just fan runs, could it be the capacitor?? It’s only 2 years old
Awesome video man !!!
Yep. The herm side of the capacitor could be low not turning the compressor on. Thank you so much for watching!
Great job lex thanks for the video
Thank you so much for watching!
I do appliances, interesting to watch & learn about hvac 😊
Thank you so much for watching!
Good vid! First I’ve seen a gravel path behind units.
Thank you so much for watching!
Great video
Thank you so much for watching!
Have you ever had a bad hard start right after installing entire unit brand new? its been happening to me the past few installs.
Yikes! Not yet. 🤞
Thank you so much for watching!
I'm glad you and Many other Floranian people are okay 👍👍 from Idalia Hurricane 🌀 The Hurricane Season what Stopped me from moving to Florida 😅😂
👍😆👍 Thank you so much for watching!
The worst part of hurricanes is the people 😂
👍😆👍 Everyone turns into a high sustain wind expert all of a sudden. And those who don't have to move anything want everything moved inside even if it weighs 1000 pounds. If the wind lifts 1000 pounds, we got bigger issues.
🤦🏻♂️ 😆 Thank you so much for watching!
Those first company coils have been leaking for years. They were coming out with leaks back in early 2000. I worked on a property that opened in 2001, 265, unit 265 leaking systems.
It's crazy. Class action lawsuit should be filed.
@@LexVance in 2013 there was a lawsuit but it was individual filed by the company in which I worked for on that property. No it was an old old property that opened probably in the mid 70s but renovated over the years eventually it had these first company air handler’s and they were probably 10 years old at the time in 2010 when I took the position they had a shop that consisted of five garages one of the garages was waist deep in refrigerant drums where they had been buying refrigerant, pumping it into leaking units and tossing the last pound pound and a half of Freon into a room just piling them up that room was at least 22 foot wide and probably 45 foot deep over 2/3 of it was waist deep in refrigerant drums totally insane. The lawsuit never went nowhere because the property and the company with us continuing to switch hands new owners come and go over there like changing underwear. It was such a troubling property that I left the company and retired around the beginning of 2013 actually I was fired from that property First time ever in my nearly 50 years of employment being fired so it was mostly somebody did not like me and the manager it was gay so everybody had problems with him and his attitude except for his new buddy he hired from another property to eventually take my place And I believe it turned out that they had something going between the two of them. I literally found him in a vacant one day in a closet, crying because of the issues between himself and his wife and he was confused on which way to go with his life he was torn between two lovers. One was male and one was female sick and disgusting.
My unit is close to 25 years old and has been using a hard start for probably 15 years and still running great, on it 2nd set of contacts and hard start4 years ago
Right on. Thank you so much for watching!
Nice job man, aren’t we supposed to check for leaking when adding refrigerant ?
I do when I have time. I have videos where I do that as well. Thank you so much for watching!
Dumb question, can you put a larger cap in and get rid of the hard start. ❤
That's a good question. I don't know. I like to go back with what the factory has. Thank you so much for watching!
that might help the compressor start but it wouldn't be good long term for it. the run cap stays in the circuit whenever the compressor is running. a cap with higher capacitance rating than spec'd will allow more current to flow threw the start windings in the motor. most of this extra current will just result in extra heat in the start winding and over time likely causing premature breakdown of the coating around the winding leading to a short. naturally the effects will vary based on how much you oversize the run cap
Glad you made it through safely Lex ... Good vid as usual even tho I didn't get to see my favorite Ryobi drill in action ... Thx
Good to hear from you Eddy!
Fist off thanks for posting your videos! Greatly appreciated! I am taking it that from your comments there might be a divided consensus on the use of hard starts. Haven't got a chance to put any leads on my unit yet but from the looks of the bulging capacitor it is bad, whether the hard start is as well is yet to be determined. My question is would you recommend continuing to use the hard start or replacing it if it is bad. I bought my whole Goodman setup from an online AC wholesaler and they recommended it and their explanation seemed pretty logical. Of course this was just 5 years ago, so not very happy with my reliability having to fix things this soon in.
I would test it with my volt meter. If the microfarads were low, I'd replace it. If not, let it ride. Thank you so much for watching!
That must be another First Co. coil? A leakuh. BTW, Lex, are you sure that 58 degree evap saturation temp is right? That can't be too normal, even for that style?
They're all high. This was a 3rd floor in this video so the line set is really long and the pressure a little higher than the first and second floors. But the rotary compressors run high pressures for some reason. It's crazy and scares me everytime. 😆 But! They all blow cold and I don't get call backs. 🤞
Can you post a Goodman part numbers of the AC units you are working on? I like to read the manuals of ones I haven't installed before. thanks!!
Will do! Thank you so much for watching!
I believe that 50 was nanofarad, not micro (watching your video on the big screen blows that meter up 😆), she was dead for sure. And if I’m not mistaken, those kits keep the inrush current down, so they’re even helpful on normal units to keep those lights from dimming when they kick on 😊 I’ve had that nF reading throw me for a minute as well.
Right on! Thank you so much for watching!
And. How much in Florida are they charging for run cap start cap pot relay and gas. In nj we get minimum 580
Between $200 and $400 depending on the contractor.
So are the Goodmans a good replacement for a small condo?
If it's installed correctly, yes.
Great video - for some reason my comment was deleted (I think I fat fingered it). I was commenting that I had two FirstCo hydro air handlers for 23 years and never had a problem with the a coil. I just had them replaced 3 years ago, and one of the ac coils is already leaking. What's going on at First Co - quality control issues? Appreciate your videos - I learn a lot from them. Thoughts?? I've heard some say all the brands are having coil issues because R410a runs at higher pressure than the old R22.
The class action lawsuit said they were making the copper lines too thin. They tried to cheap out and got caught I guess.
Not telling you how to do the job because I don’t even do it anymore, but I always was taught to check the ohms of the contractor coil and good is 10 to 20 ohms. Then when running no more than a 0.3v drop across the contractor’s switched legs. You did better than I would have because you actually checked the charge … I probably would have figured the compressor is running, so it’s all good
So true! Good to hear from you Justin!
I put a hard start on my AC compressor 2 years ago. How often do those parts go out, also should I just change it out after so many years?
The microfarads will get lower the more it starts up the unit. It wouldn't hurt to change it out. If you have a volt meter you can check the microfarads.
@@LexVance Thanks
What brand capacitor do you recommend? Thank you
I like the Titans or any American made caps. Thank you so much for watching!
I first thought 'fixing another goddamn Air conditioner 😃
👍😆👍 Thank you so much for watching!
the zip tie with ring sure don't look like factory must be a production change
A new zip tie comes in the package with the new hard start. 😆
I am new to apartment living. If it’s 96° outside and I am in a top floor apartment is it reasonable to expect my AC to cool down to 76°? I’d be happy with that but the office say’s 83° is about the best they can do when it’s this hot. I do everything I can including fans and window shades but it hits 80° by 1pm and goes to 82-84 by 4pm.
It's should be able to cool to 70. They need to get the Freon charge correct.
@@LexVance
Thank you.
I understand skid and it's ok to vent, alot of people are that way, it's all about them, and when they're customer you just have to deal with it.
So true! Thank you so much for watching!
I have the residents tell me what we need to do to prepare for a hurricane. I had a lady once tell me we need to remove all the oak tress on the property,
👍😆👍 It's so frustrating. Everyone turns into a high sustain wind expert all of a sudden. I had a lady want one sand bag. 🤦🏻♂️ Thank you so much for watching!
So I’m helping a friend and his Goodman is doing a bbbrrrrrarrrrtt sound every so often. Fan is moving. He just replaced capacitor but that didn’t fix it. Is that the hard start failing to kick on the compressor?
Yep! Thank you so much for watching!
@@LexVance well, opened it up and this Goodman doesn’t have a hard start cap. So possibly just needs another new Cap.
So... hard start for someone new what is it what does it do ?
It sends a jolt to the compressor to get it started. Like a heart defibrillator.
Never been a fan of rotary compressors… always been a fan of hard starts…. They are easier to install than compressors!
So true!
Get it bubba
Thank you so much for watching!
are they 2 ton units?
Yes
@@LexVance take a 45-5 cap?
You gotta replace it, it's got a hard start!! OMG He's using a Ryobi!!
👍😆👍 Good to hear from you Sam!
Ooooooooo you gotta replace it if it's got a hard start!! You didn't know that!?!?
Why are you installing a hard start on that unit?
👍😆👍
👍😆👍 Thank you so much for watching!
I'm just giving you a hard time bro! Where at in Florida are you?
RIP jimmy buffett!
So sad. I'll be playing "A Pirate Looks at 40" today. One my favorite songs he did.
Nothing but A/c going out where i work
Craziness! Thank you so much for watching!
Your always going to get haters and arm chair maintenance techs. 😅
So true! 👍😆👍
Thank you so much for watching!
Its already looking sus all sus hahahahaha 😂
👍😆👍
I see London, I see France, but I do not see Lex Vance fixing an condenser in his underpants! 🤣🤪🥳🥸🤡
I've just outdone myself on craziness! inspired by me cleaning house and finding all the Dr. Seuss books from my childhood... not that I ever really read nor paid attention to them beyond the silly pictures(truth). But I've always been way too smart for my britches!
👍😆👍 good to hear from you Throttle!
