I'm Hayden Hillier-Smith, on this channel I will break down what makes good editing...pulling back the curtain on how editors make the choices to keep YOU, THE AUDIENCE engaged. This includes showcasing the creative choices I have made.
And exploring the editorial process for other UA-cam channels in how they have optimised their content. I’m even going to take you through my journey where I experiment on how I can become a better editor and learn through my experiences.
Whatever it is that I do on this channel, I hope you can learn something and discover your own ability on being a content creator yourself. - Розваги

Fun fact, this video edit was my second draft.
I've looked back at it a few hours later and there's so much I want to improve on.
I still hate my English teacher though.
If may ask, why didn't you add footsteps to the roommates running by?
@@rne1223 I think that would have been cool too
WHAT IS YOUR OUTRO SONG
Forgive the newbie question although I've been editing quite awhile. I've never used stock footage, where do you get yours?
I absolutely enjoyed your video! I thought I saw a way to make the end a bit snappier, so decided to try it out. I'm really curious to see what you think about it, if it were options that you tried and did not go with (and why then) or maybe implemented in your third (or fourth) edit!

As a novice who edits his own videos, I have this rule wherein I allow myself 2 "sleeps" before I press "publish" or "send" on my editorial type videos. Just something about waking up even after a nap allows me to re-assess my supposed masterpiece and helps me refine a lot from the first draft.
2 sleeps is definitely my minimum as well!

This is great advice. I'm new to UA-cam but I've been writing my entire life and I follow this rule when possible. You always see things more clearly after a break. I call it pre-crastinating - I get the work done in advance then wait until the urgency of the deadline to make final tweaks.

Great video Hayden
Absolutely!
I love your channel
I'm actually a tuition teacher
When I saw some Mr beast videos and pewdiepie videos I saw a correlation of jump cuts which I didn't know was a thing went to tik tok Chinese tik tok looked at some jurassic park scenes and the same thing momentum and perfect cuts.
I applied the same concept on my students to keep them interested in learning. The reason some teachers are boring because they emphasise on something too long where the kid lost interest in that topic or chapter
Thank you UA-cam for opening my eyes.

This is a note for the viewers:
Not always cutting those empty spots is something you should do, in this context it was, but pacing and space to breathe are important in other contexts
Don’t often like videos at all but this man is literally giving out free lessons on how to edit. I watch your videos for motivation on my next video. Thank you so much and please keep doing these types of videos.

I honestly think it can depend on the video too.

Honestly the difference between those both editing clips were very noticeable and better. Well done brother you taught me more about editing and you have earned yourself a new sub. Happy New Years everyone!!!!
I can't believe you edited this! Been having your channel pushed to me lately a bunch and I'm loving the content! Watched this film the day it came out and I absolutely loved it, I think I rewatched it with several different friends and they also loved it! So great job!
I absolutely LOVE how you changed the trailer and explained everything!! I love editing so much and recently I've been re- editing my videos before just posting up the first draft. It's so important! Your videos are really informative, I love your set up, and your quality is top notch. Yes your English teacher was right... And even though it may have taken you years to see that, look at you now!! I will subscribe for more tips as this is now the third video I've watched of yours... Thank you!!
Just stumbled upon this channel and honestly this has been very eye opening. The amount of detail I never even thought about for my edits was shocking, thank you so much for this. Keep up the good work !!

Great editing on this editing video. Good luck with the production. 😊

Learning with you is awesome
Thanks, Rohit! Glad to have you here.
Great advice and lots to learn here even for mere editing mortals, so thank you. I noticed since I started making almost only shorts that the discipline of cuts that forced me into also enhanced the quality of my editing. It's difficult, and it's the same for writers - as the author you have this rose-tinted super-informed vision of how moving or effective some shot is supposed to be, or paragraph in writing, but very often the viewer or reader will a) not even notice or get that bit as you expected, if you leave it in, and b) respond much better to the whole piece of work if you leave it out.
Man awesome looking forward to your next episode
Those illustrations make the trailer feel cheap, you're a great editor, but this aint it.
Yea
But you get the idea...
@@dannymiguel112 The trailer's idea, or the video's? Either way could've maintained a more cohesive tone

Amazing content. It’s simple yet the tips go a long way. Makes me appreciate editing as an art form.
so much value from these videos
That's totally true. I uploaded a video after first render and I was so disappointed, I saw so many mistakes and room for improvement. But hey, that was actually my lesson, and then I got this video in recommended page, that was not a coincidence I guess. Totally givin a sub and watch more videos. Just a little tip. Instead of making your sound design mono, you can use paning to give it a little bit more depth.

1 big mistake: UA-cam compression will KILL ANY CLIP WITH CONFETTI so you have to like watch the video in 8k on a 2k screen just because of the compression thing yes we all hate it
Resolution won't change anything related to compression. You can watch the clip at 8k but it'll still be compressed

Hayden. What’s your experience with premier pro? Do you recommend final cut or premiere pro?
It depends if you have a PC or Mac. If you have a PC you can't get final cut pro. But a Mac can run both. However, since a Mac and final cut are both produced by Apple, final cut has a much faster rendering rate. I hope that helps. I just made a few vlogs, it's my few and I put a lot of time into it.
