Let's take a break from the antiquities and walk around small Selcuk, pop: 28,000 before videos of #1 UNESCO Ephesus. There are many restaurants, shops selling the ubiquitous "blue bead" to ward off evil, a huge Saturday market and amazing Roman aqueducts at the end of main street. WOW...

The markets are always so interesting to me and I love interacting with the vendors. The food looks so good but I'm always hesitant to eat anything that has been sitting out in the sun. Like you said food poisoning is no fun especially when you're on vacation ! I would love one of the beautiful carpet though..... maybe i'd spend my money on carpets instead of food. I hope you and Steve enjoy your Thanksgiving !! Do you have another trip planned?

Let me attempt to answer your many questions 🤣 and elaborate on food poisoning. Never, ever, as we both know buy anything that's sitting in the sun! And be leery of anything with ground beef. My worst ever was a cold green pepper stuffed with ground meat (maze) in a very renowned Ankara restaurant. OMG. Another person on the tour ate the same and was equally ill. I also love carpets and in my "olden" days of travel came home with a carpet (small, big, remnant) everywhere we traveled. Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes... cooking today for tomorrow 🍷 and I am "hopeful" that we will visit Costa Rica in December as long as Costa Rica doesn't change its entry rules. 👍

Looks like a lovely place. Probably a much different atmosphere compared to when the cruise ships are in. Neat looking town.

The cruise ships don't even come here (at least not on most excursions), Jeff. They dock is Kusadasi, shuttle people to Ephesus and perhaps some of the other spots we visited. It depends, I guess, on what excursion you opt for. Hope you have a good holiday and best to you, Sheila 🥰

An excellent taste of the eclectic atmosphere of Turkey. I could almost taste that baclava. What are your food recommendations for a market like that? Like you, I’ve had food poisoning from street food before (although not in Turkey); how do you discern what is safe to eat? I’m loving your Turkey series.

Hi Simon, do you mind reading what I wrote to Chip about food poisoning below? Another food poisoning case was on a Greek cruise! Lunch buffet was set up on deck (in the sun, naturally) and stupid, stupid me opted for the moussaka (ground beef in a creamy sauce). How much dumber 🤪 can one person be as I discovered 3 hours later! Ground beef is always iffy! And I'm so glad you are enjoying the Turkey series! Very, very, best to you, Sheila 💖

It was such a nice little town. I was floored when we first began walking and came to the aqueducts at the end of the main street. And, yes, let's cheer for the vaccine(s) 🤣 ! Best to you, Sheila 💖
