Great point about what "open source" entails: it's not just something publicly available. If it provides value to you, you contribute to its development and sustainability.
A huge amount of thought and computer simulations has been put into Cardano true design. Is there an answer to the ideal future value of one Ada to say a real world unit either a Euro currency or cost of a hamburger/cup of coffee?
Charles, had said at the Cardano Summit that "Cardano is going for number one", but he did not elaborate. How will Cardano accomplish that ? What Metric was he talking about ?
Cheers John, I think in crypto most people consider #1 as the top marketcap coin which is currently BTC by a long way right now but I'm not sure which one Charles means
In my opinion, he is referring to Cardano building something far greater than a money making investment machine. It's a social and financial revolution. Cardano is getting ready to create its own constitution. Decentralised governance, which could scale exponentually. How long is it before this does scale to see a small country governed by it'a own people, voting on policies instead of people? Any elected official will only be able to enact the will of the population. I think this is the endgame of Blockchain tech, and Cardano is building for THAT future NOW, where other projects appear to focus on financial value alone
There should be a Cardano community sweepstakes, where each low cost entry is a smart contract. This will bolster smart contract metrics and also provide the winner with a grand prize. Lamborghini ?
@@GaaikeEuwema you’re a total dumbshit. It creates utility, utilization. Have you ever created a smart contract? This would create hundreds of thousands of smart contracts.
@@johndussin5004 my.. I know I came in hard, but that is because I saw you receiving criticism before and not listening.. there's no use in overburdening the ledger with useless smart contracts.. if for instance you could do the whole raffle in a single smart contract, or Hydra head that would be better. If it's just for boasting, than that's just dumb and you should rather think about educating yourself.
I'd recommend investing in educational material translating the cryptology papers into mental models that can be understood by the layman. I have a pretty clear understanding of bitcoin's PoW security model and how the integrity of the blockchain is protected. I don't trust "the experts" in the case of bitcoin. Instead I trust my own understanding. I do not have an equivalent understanding for PoS.
Not sure what your layman view of POW is but Cardano POS has similarities. The "miner" is your stakepool operator and the more Ada is pointed towards your "miner" the more blocks they can produce and pay one part of it to you, the delegator. The more "miners" there are, the more copies of the blockchains there are and the more resssilient it is. Cardano has about 3000 stakepools
@@_matis_ Thanks for replying. Can the past be changed in very little time if stake-pool operators decide to collude? With PoW you'd have to re-spend all that energy. Even if the miners collude they still have to do massive work to catch up with all the hashing that's been done in the past. I don't see a barrier like that with PoS.
Don't get me wrong; I won't be selling my ADA any time soon, nor any of the other 4 crypto's I hold besides bitcoin and ADA, but there is some worry in my mind about whether PoS can protect the past. Stakepool operators could use the "heaviest" PoW chain to periodically checkpoint the Cardano blockchain. I think that would be prudent. That way we get the benefits of PoS but also the extra guarantee of immutability that PoW provides. I'd like to learn more about the threat models against Cardano's consensus mechanisms. What is actually proved in these cryptology papers? Maybe I'll dig into the papers myself and become the educator that I wish was publishing already.
@@carlwatts1230 I think you pretty much answered your own question. Since Cardano doesnt rely on computational power but on stake (that is fully liquid and not in the custody of the stakepool), the energy aspect can be pretty much neglected
What a joker. Long term: 10 till 20 years!!! That' s what you say if you can't deliver in 2 or 3 years. You can't trust people who talk that. Nobody knows what is happening in 10 years. What an actor. Unbelievable!!
They have a product that they want to remain stable and solid enough to remain online and functional. Luck favors the prepared. If you want a quick buck go play the lotto. Cardano is a longterm tech/blockchain/ software company.
Do you even know how supply and demand works? If we have a legit on and off ramp using USDM, It changes everything. Cardano will be bitcoin but it'll have ethereum capabilities. It's just a matter of time with this until the NYSE becomes the Cardano Stock Exchange. Everything will be on Cardano one day.

I don't think there is any real ideal value especially when you look at how inflation goes up every year
Great interview!
Great interview here - good questions and very good insights from Frederic👍🏼
Thank you
