We do about eight or ten trap outs a year. The most challenging part is dealing with the property owner. When the bees start piling up outside the tree or whatever you are trapping them out of people get a little freaked out. - Навчання та стиль
Does the queen come out also ? What do without queen
This colony is a real mixture of different bees! After 7:30 you can see yellow, black and grey ones. Their queen obviously wasn't too fussy with her choice of mates!
Dang those loose women!
Thank you for nice video! Best greetings from Entomologist and Beekeeper in Ukraine! Looking forward for your new videos!
Do you get the queen in a trapout?
I’ve finished All of your videos looking for more
What’s the first thing a new bee keeper should start doing
I would like to see what would happen if the exit point took the bee's into the new bee hive and then the bee's could come & go from the new hive as they please. The tree hive would still need the one way flow out of the tree...but into the new hive. The difference is the bee's are automatically going into their new hive...and becoming familiar with it, thru the one way check valve. Perhaps sometime in the future you will try this method. Thanks for the video.
Running the exit into a hive box is something a lot of people suggest but it doesn’t matter where the exit is. They will alway try to return to the entrance location they were familiar with before the trap box was placed. It just takes a little patience and the ones who are trapped out eventually give up on going home and start working the box.
how much do you charge to do a trap out?
I got someone wanting bees removed in Sept, any chance they will survive? I'm in Southern Illinois
I am curious what keeps them from going in the hole of the cone.
When they return to the hive they are trying to enter the tree, building or whatever at the point they remember (where they were oriented to). When they get back and the screen is up it's confusing to them. They won't back up and evaluate the overall situation to see what has changed and how to get around it. They just keep trying to get back to the place they remember and now the scent of the hive is keeping them focused on where to go as well.
This is how I like to explain it: It would be like if you came home and someone had put a fence across your whole front yard with a gate down at the corner and you stuck your face up against the fence where you normally walk to try and find a way in. LOL
The Hive need be close open of wire mash cane so bees can move in hive quick
I am always interested in the Why... as in Why do Bees do what they do, the Lemon Grass? etc
I'm having too much fun watching your vids
Lemon grass oil is the scent of a happy hive. When they get mad they smell like bananas.
That is the best and most informative answer ever! Thank you
Would you put a new queen in a queen cage in the hive box? The one in the tree might be impossible to get out. This procedure is really good to know. Thanks
No, the queen will eventually come out and when she does you want her to be accepted. If you've already given them another queen they won't take her back. Sometimes for whatever reason she doesn't make it through the process. We'll watch for long enough to be sure there is no more activity inside the tree and still can't find the queen in the box. We requeen those when we get them home.
Never seen this before. If you do this for a house doesn't that create issue leaving the honey behind?
You're right. Old comb left in the walls attracts ants, roaches, mice and other pests but some people just refuse to let you pull off a few pieces of siding or cut out a little bit of sheetrock. These same folks usually drive you nuts with phone calls after the trap is set up. They call two hours after you leave to complain about all the bees on the outside of their house. It sounds funny but they're really annoying to deal with.
Wow, how much does enough screen to cover the hole cost???
about five bucks.
Also, how far are you from Memphis?
We are a little over six hours from Memphis.
Do you need drawn out comb in the nuc?
Using drawn out comb isn't a necessity but I would use it if I had extra. This trap has some drawn comb in it. I'll show what I have in there when I have the bees out of the tree. I'll also show the set back I had with this one.
@@628DirtRooster I know this was a long time ago but did you have a follow up video, and if so, do you have a link to it? Thanks, and love your videos! No hooves it bed but because of your videos, and Mr Eds, over just joined a local bee club. Now if my health will just cooperate! Thanks again!
That explains how to get the foragers out of the hive but how do you get them into the nuc box?
Put drawn comb in it.
Will the queen go in the box? Didnt catch it in the video..
Never
Once you are able to trap the bees and get them to the bee yard how soon should they be released?
Thanks, Paul
Immediately on a trap out.
628DirtRooster thank you sir, they are now free. Love your videos! Keep up the good work and videos.
Randy, how long did this trapout take you?
I've been working a trapout now, here in Florida, for four plus weeks.
I've given them frames of honey and nectar, fresh eggs, with hopes of them developing a queen and things are looking great, but the queen has yet to leave the tree.
I've smoked the spayed bee quick around the entrance, but still no queen. Even pumped smoke into the opening.
I've been telling her that there are better accommodations outside the tree, but she keeps blowing me off.
Still very optimistic that I'll be done soon. 😎🐝🐝🐝
If you're sure they are completely trapped out with no way back in and no queen has come out she is most likely dead. I'm typically done with a trap out in two to three weeks. The one thing I never add is frames of honey. That can cause set backs due to robbing especially if there is no flow going on. If there are plenty of bees in the box and they are working your box I'd stick a frame of young larvae and eggs in (honey ring around brood is OK) and if they aren't drawing queen cells inside of a day then chances are you have a queen in the box. I'd also sit and observe the trap cone for a while and if no bees come out after about ten minutes or so of observation I'd probably call it done.
Interesting, hope theirs an update video.
I'll probably do one more once the bees are out of the tree.
how do u get the queen out i got a hive in tree but owner dont want it cut but wants the bees gone
Try a repellent like Fischer's Bee Quick or Honey Robber. They aren't cheap but they are worth the price.
ok ill try it will let ya know wish me luck
Now what I’m wondering is if bees will live in cedar boxes or not , cause I know some insects hate cedar but it’s light and also last a really long Time naturally
They will. A friend of mine sells cedar bee boxes.
Awesome thanks , I’ll probably make my boxes out of cedar this winter , might help keep the other critters away a little , hopefully the mites cause I hear they are bad here
How close does the hive have to be to the cone..??
Not very, just on the tree.
Thanks, I know where a wild hive is but it's 15 feet off the ground. Not sure how to best secure the trap that far off the ground.
Will the queen evintually come out with the colony?
About half the time
how do you get the queen out?
Cross your fingers and wait.
You sir, are a busy bee :)
I get to sleep once in a while.
Were you ever afraid of getting stung or did you just get used to it. I think it is incredible that you can work with honeybees without gloves or protective gear. Your channel is awesome!
billp4 I was nervous about it at first.
But then you figured it would "bee" OK :)
billp4 Ha! I got stung over twenty times on my first removal and after that everything was easy. I used to box for a lot of years and that hurt more. I figure if I can take punches from heavy weights I can take a few bee stings. lol
So does the queen die or does she leave the tree too
Sometimes she comes out and sometimes she doesn't.
This is sooo cool! 😊
How long did it take, and did you get the queen ? Guess some of these folks just watched and never listened to you explain that this is not what you prefer to do. Nice work By the way, probably saved those bees from being killed. After all, they were next to a walk way.
+Smokeydabee Charles Coleman Oh we saved them alright! Ran them too far up the tree for anyone to reach. :)
Good stuff man, thanks for sharing.
J
Thanks so much for watching.
Good information sir ji
Thanks man
A matica? Ostade unutra????
Did ya get 'em?
Getting there. Hopefully we'll have em out by next weekend.
so did they move to the nuke yet?
Not yet. It sometimes takes a few days for them to decide they better find another place to live.
just buy a qween n catch drones and sell them
Bee can't find the tip of cone exit to reenter !
maybe this is a weird comment but there is that stuff called great stuff spray foam if I can could you use that or would that be a no no
Doesn't take the bees long to chew through that
I just used modeling clay so the crack would be securely sealed
With out queen how ??? No possibile
Nice work, mate. How do you get on with the queen? Does she eventually just follow the rest of the bees out?
Yes, she will eventually come out. At that point you've won the game.
great & nice Trapping techniques sir' thanks for sharing :)
could you conne t the cone to the new hive thereby force ng the bees to go through it to get out and introducing them into it. or would this just then be a longer trek for them to get in and out of the tree? just curious. you guys do great work saving the bees, ignore the idiotic posts...
+Doc Bartley You can direct the cone into the box but its their return flight you're concerned with. Doesn't really matter where they depart from. They try to return to the entrance they know and when that is block they go by scent so they will just go around the box when they come back until they give up and start looking for a new place to live.
What are the white things on the screen? Good video by the way!
trap house
Wow... Bee
Trap out sounds like a bbq for drug dealers😂
Do you get the queen out on the trap out
If you do it right.
What do you mean . I'm working on on not
Yes, You get the queen out if you do it right.
Sorry about my spelling .am working on trapped out now got two rack of bees no queen . how do to get the queen out? Please help
Time. When she realizes something is not right she will eventually come out. Don't add honey or any type feeder. Just wait and make sure the forage bees don't find a way back in.
nice
Thank you sir
Just a shot in the dark. You know any beeks in Northern MS who would be interested in a bee trap out? Fiance's uncle is renting a place with a strong colony in a tree that's eating his lunch when he mows. Entrance is about 2 ft off the ground. Should be easy to work. Sent a message to Tim Durham asking if he knows anyone in the area but I've not got a reply. He said they were vicious. I walked up to within a couple of feet of the entrance. They were just pissed from the lawn mower vibration and him throwing grass all over the entrance. I'd do it but I'm 3 1/2 hours north.
+Chris English Tell him to get a goat. ;)
Don't know anyone personally but check on beeremovalsource.com I think that might be your best bet. Tell him to get a goat. ;)
Why aren't they stinging you?
There is lots of bees it may be stingless bees
Trap outs are pretty much a waste of time. You don't' get the comb, larva, capped brood, nectar, pollen or honey. As you showed most of the time the bees find another way in and coming back day after day is a huge waste of time. So what do you get for all your trouble? If you have some brood comb and empty comb, you might get the bees to go into the trap box. In four or five weeks you could get most of the bees. All in all it's a waste of time.
it was a good idea but not very effective at getting them to go into your trap. just saying
ya all cud smoke dem cones............
"Beez in the trap beez, beez in the trap!" - Nicki Minaj
Please don't spell bees that way. Nicki is cancer
I don’t like bees eew
Incomplete
You probably will need the queen out...
She will come out.
good story ...don't move yer $(E*R@ camera...! the eyes move.. the camera doesnt' ... ...it's horrible ...
+Solartony Tony Wish I was a pro. ;)
Solartony Tony i
a but honestly u guys might want to stop this just get a few boys n then buy a qween online trapping bees like this is literally making them instinct
+Mark Valencia Thanks for watching Mark. This doesn't hurt the bee population. We only remove hives when property owners want them gone and would otherwise kill them anyway.
+628DirtRooster I like when people make crazy ass comments before they even watch the video. Do they: A) Just read the title and start firing away? B) Not comprehend the words being spoken? C) Have their audio off? D) All of the above? Inquiring minds want to know. lol
+628DirtRooster PS If it weren't for folks like you and your dad. Bees would be on the path to extinction one heck of a lot faster. So thank you for helping to keep the balance by offsetting the damage done by humans that simply don't know any better.
Jo Mama I'm thinking it's 80% A and 20% D. Ha!
I put a flea bomb toin the hole to kill them all and plugged it up the holes with foam filler, hope that works
