Why did this just appear again on UA-cam 4/27/2020? Nobody outside is looking in the window. You didn't mention the on-air intros were narrated by TV's Roger Rose.
Thanks Brandon! I just checked out some of YOUR videos...they're very creative and engaging! I actually covered an Operation Prom Night this spring - if you're interested, you can find it on the ABC 7 website. It is an awesome industry! -Roz Varon, ABC 7 News
This would drive me nuts. I wish a network was brave enough experiment with broadcasting news, weather, and traffic in the manner people act naturally!
I live in New York and have dreams to be a news anchorman or a reporter that’s why I’m going to college to major in broadcast journalism and anyone that’s going for it don’t give up on your dreams, life is hard but it’s not impossible.
Merry Christmas, you guys! My father was in paper media, as a journalist, photographer, editor, owner, as were his mother and father, Mary Allensworth and Walter Creighton. These latter started the Galesburg Post and Knoxville (Illinois) Journal on or around 1924. I find what you guys and gals do very interesting. Please, have a Happy New Year and much success in broadcasting what is vital and essential to know and discuss. People, please hold your news media accountable to report what we, the people, need to know: not only the weather, the traffic, but also the news (what happens) and wherever possible to delve into what the powers that be are up to. ABC7, you guys do a great job. Keep up the good work. Again, Merry Christmas!
I remember just a couple weeks back from April 19th, 2012 that I was by the State St. Station, my mom wanted us to get on the news. I remember she begged one of the workers to get us on. We got on during the weather. It was cold and I was wearing shorts. It was near April first, or April 2nd of 2012 I can't remember. So for that minute, my mom helped change something, my guess is they weren't thinking they were gonna show outside of State St. But I don't know.
Nice. I've been watching WLS' newscasts since the (later) days of Fahey Flynn & Joel Daly. Yes, I remember when they were "Eyewitness News" & didn't have a morning newscast. I still do watch the newscasts, even the mornings if I can drag my butt outta bed while they're still on.
Hey, thanks so much for uploading this. I've been looking for a video like this for a real long time and it's nice to see someone took the time out to do it!
If you really want behind the scenes, Rox should've filmed more of the control room. Tech director, audio, etc...this was a BTS from an anchor point of view. The exciting stuff happens in the control room.
+Greg N Hey Greg - I couldn't do this while I was on the air, as I do traffic every 10 minutes! Of course now that we have FB Live and Periscope, I could do a little more while we're actually on the air! 😊
+inaforeignland Hi Roz. I mention the control room because I used to Technical Direct at ESPN and am very interested in watching control room activities.
Nothing exciting happens in the control room. I work in there and its always pretty quiet. LOL unless someone messes up, usually the director, then a bunch of cussing goes on! haha
Roz Varon here - Traffic Anchor for the morning news at ABC7 in Chicago. I do traffic every 10 minutes during the news. I wanted to show what prep goes into putting our show together! Thanks for your comments! 😊
I would love to anchor the news. I have been watching CBS news like crazy, and it would be amazing to stand next to Scott Pelley on the CBS Evening News
greetings from calgary Alberta. I've been lucky enough to see ctv calgary & cbc studios here thanks muchly for the tour, i think this is the station where AM Chicago started
Yes, WLS-TV Channel 7 had AM-Chicago for a number of years. It was hosted by Rob Weller in the late 70s and early 80s. Then in 1984, Oprah Winfrey took over AM-Chicago and started crafting what became the Oprah Winfrey Show when it started syndication in 1986.
Thank you! Thank you! I so appreciate the time that you have taken out of your work schedule to show the viewers how you and your coworkers prepare for the morning show.
There are more channel 7 stations on the ABC affiliate list than other station numbers, but not a bunch more. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ABC_television_affiliates_(table) Most stations will be between 2 and 13 because those were the coveted VHF stations back when everyone was using analog TVs to get over-the-air broadcasts. 7 is probably more highly sought after because it is considered a lucky number. Likewise, I'd imagine 13 is only chosen as a last resort.
You just have to forgive or excuse my ignorance, but: is this like THE local station of Chicago? (National or local television in America differs a lot compared to that in my country, The Netherlands, so it's really hard to grasp the whole station-call thing). If it is a local station, that's just really awesome. There is only a handfull of local televisions stations in my country comparable to do this kind of coverage on news (and I really do mean a handfull, maybe 3 or 4). Even though this video was really nice and informative (I liked that it had really good audio!) I would've liked to see the switcher/producer doing his work in the control room.
Each TV market usually has one affiliate per network for each of the four major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox). Sometimes there will be small network affiliates or independent networks as well (WGN in Chicago, for instance).
Hi my name is Angel Simmons and I'm taking broadcasting classes in my senior year of highschool because I want to be an anchor women when I grow up is it a way I could get a summer job or volunteer?
Hosea Sanders was so passive aggressive. Didn’t want you there but didn’t have the balls to say it, and instead waved you off cut the convo short in a rude abrupt way. What a clown!
Who is watching this in 2020????🙀🔥🔥🔥
I am.

I loved this so much! Thank you. Was very insightful. I walk by the studio everyday just imagining having my own seat as an Anchor.
Are any reporters or anchors given any freedom to ever add their own opinion or is it always scripted?
Thanks for putting this together! It's great to show to my high school broadcasting students.
I hate waking up for school, but waking up early to go to work at a news broadcast looks like hell to go through.
This would drive me nuts. I wish a network was brave enough experiment with broadcasting news, weather, and traffic in the manner people act naturally!
I am always surprised how few bloopers there really are for a live broadcast. Especially with a live active working stage.
I really appreciate this ! As someone who is into media/behind the scenes it helped me relieve some nerves. 🙂
Wow super cool, thanks for the insight
This is why I want to be a broadcast reporter /anchor!! Someday !! haha
college, and more college. heheeh

Hi my name is Angel Simmons and I'm taking broadcasting classes in my senior year of highschool because I want to be an anchor women when I grow up is it a way I could get a summer job or volunteer?
4:57 who's this lady and what's her job?
Kombaiyashii She is probably the floor manager. The floor manager briefs talent and gives time counts and cues.

The internet must be hard to compete with, just something like google maps has replaced traffic reports.

Are all the cameras controlled by robotics now?
And then there was Brent.. What does brent do?
wow
who needs traffic reports at 4:30am? or is it 4:30 pm when there is actually traffic to report?
Exoress Delivers In lots of big cities many people need traffic reports at all time of the day or night, overnight truckers, for instance.
