There's too much talent on this Seattle team. I honestly thought this team was for sure going to go 10-7 but the ceiling was 12-5. You just can't afford to get swept by 2 of your 3 divisional opponents. Losing 5 straight to SF is just painful.
Facts. They needed to get rid of Clint hurtt and ran another season with Pete. Absolutely wrong move to fire Pete. And he did get fired, because Pete specifically said he was Not done.
He should have been fired the same night he call that ridiculous play if I was the owner I would have fired the entire coaching staff that night. and make them take a spirit flight back to Seattle
@@omarjames11 pretty sure Pete doesn't call plays. That play was absolutely the wrong call and an even worse result. I might agree with you the OC should've been fired. But not Pete. Seahawks fan here. I support moving on from Pete. It’s not about young or old. Yes, the Seahawks have been fine the last few years. But that’s all they’ve been, and it’s clear “fine” is our ceiling at this point. We’ll never be at the bottom of the league with Pete Carroll, but the days of being consistently even in the top third of the league are gone. That’s why it’s time to move on if we want to have a chance to be anything more than just “fine”.
This happened to Rick Adelman of the Sacramento Kings almost 20 years ago. Took the Kings until last season to make it back to the playoffs! Seattle, before Pete was a consistently under .500 team since their expansion year of joining the league.
you apparently missed that we made a SB in 2005, 5 years before Pete became HC. yes we didn't win it, but to say we were consistently a below .500 team before pete came is a false statement. ever since the turn of the century we have been a winning franchise
You can tell most of the commentariat knows nothing about Seattle. Pete had 1 year left on his contract. We needed massive coaching changes on both sides of the ball and the available coaching pool is the best it has been in awhile. It was time, Pete is and will be a legend. Also went to the Super Bowl under Holmgren.
If an organization values the people they WANT to hire, they absolutely should show proper respect for the people who have brought them relevance. Joy's points against the ageism that Acho is preaching are salient. As far as being a copycat league, if you don't have the players/the talent, copying won't get you where it got the teams that you're copying and copying seems to guarantee you'll always be playing/coaching from behind. Follow the leader doesn't win championships.
They showed Pete plenty of respect by allowing him to remain much longer than he should have. Respect doesn’t mean you let a guy decide when he wants to leave. This is a business. Besides, how much respect did Pete show Marshawn Lynch or Earl Thomas? Pete didn’t let Richard Sherman stay a Seahawk, as would have been his preference.
@@DeCurtaRican the "this is a business" argument needs to be dropped: everyone knows this is a business. No one forgets "this is a business" or "this is the NFL (MLB, NBA, whatever)" when we're already talking about signing/ firing/ trading etc. As far as Pete already staying past his effectiveness that's also the debate we're already having. It's possible his time was done years ago but it's also a debate he was only ever going to get so far with the level of talent this team currently has. As for Sherman, Errol, and others that's also a fair point in a different argument because Pete is not the GM and while i'd have to double check each case, all the LoB (and Marshawn) stars you mentioned POSSIBLY aged out of their contracts and at their then-effectiveness level weren't going to get bigger contracts. Of all those i'd absolutely agree Thomas got shafted and were it not for that injury he might've gotten his due. I'm certainly not convinced Seattle is well-run and we will see how well their follow-up decisions work out in HC and culture moving forward.
Uh none of these young coaches won a Super Bowl without a franchise QB either or am I missing something? Lol they all needed to get a star QB to come in order to win anything
As a Cards fan who hates the Hawks, I feel for Pete. I may not like the Hawks, but I've always respected them, more so Pete Carroll. I feel like the dude *still* has more energy than some of these younger guys. He's an amazing coach that's super fun to watch. I feel like Seattle should have let him decide. Or they just give him one last year to turn it around.
These guys seem to be struggling to say this, "In 5-10 years, will Pete Carroll be as good or better than he is right now?" My answer is no. The "young" coaches will all presumably become better coaches over time, so a younger coach is a better investment. If the Seahawks had a super bowl window for the next 2-3 years, they should probably have kept Pete. But they don't.
Well said. I think it really does matter who is at the helm at QB as well. For example, mason Rudolph is ok, nothing special. But look at the games he is having under Tomlin who is a defensive coach and isn’t considered the new youngins
@@xRich7x I agree. But I would say the QB question is just a different way of saying "Superbowl window". That would explain why they were getting tripped up on Doug Peterson. Because his Superbowl win with Foles doesn't fit into the "good QB" narrative.
As a Seahawks fan I wanted Pete to go … he’s a legendary coach but his apex is gone he doesn’t have an upside. If you think so, don’t think Pete could coach these guys to a ring in the near future?
Seems premature. They weren't trending down, they actually were about sideways, but are building their roster. Don't they have a lot of draft capital still? And this old vs young talk is weird - didn't the cutoff for old change during the segment? Doug Pederson started out young and then became old in the discussion.
I respectfully disagree with shady. Bill B is still relavant. His defense is still tops. Every head coach needs good cordinators and coaches under them. The difference between Andy and Pete is that Kansas City is winning more because of Maholmes.
What is James Jones saying when he says that Pete Caroll was winning without great qb play. Russ was cooking was for a decade and Geno Smith had a great year last year.
to say Seattle was nothing before Pete(11-0-3), Holmgren was 7-0-3 win tie loss seasons and a super bow appearance. Knox was 6-1-2. overall 26-4-18 first few years where rough but they have been decent at the very least their entire existence basically.
Ummm…. He is a defensive HC, our defense been trending downward since LOB (which was 6 or 7 years ago) last 3 years rank - 25, 26, and now 30 😬 love Pete but it was time 🙌🏿
@@faustinomontoya1549 There’s three main reasons. 1.) There quarterback situations are completely different. Tomlin has been stuck with the corpse of Big Ben, rookies, and mediocre also rans at quarterback. Meanwhile Pete didn’t win with prime Russel Wilson with good weapons in that time period. 2.) One took care of his side of the football, the other didn’t. They’re both defensive head coaches. Tomlin has had top defenses every year. Pete’s defenses have been bad for like 7 years straight. 3.) Tomlin is in a much harder division and conference.Every year the NFC north produces 3-4 top ten defenses. They also have 2 top five quarterbacks. He’s also competing with the chiefs and the bills in that conference. Would you keep a guy who’s no longer good at what he’s best at, can’t win with a top 7 quarterback and talented receivers, and is too old to change his process?
There is a time in your life for everything. Essentially, the older you get especially when you are way past retirement age and when things start to slip, is really telling you is time to go. Pete Carroll is 72 now, his birthday is in September, so he will be 73 by the time next season starts. Look at the Seahawks, it has been going downhill for quite a few years already. Pete Carroll had a good run, may with a bit of luck too when he was able to draft that amazing defense and a young Russell Wilson. You coupled that with Beast Mode at running back, it was a team that was extremely hard to beat for a while. But, unfortunately for him, he wasn't able to repeat the formula which was when things started to slide until today when they have finally missed the playoffs. Even last year when they did make the playoffs, they knew they weren't going anywhere. Even the fans knew they weren't beating the 9ers. Give you another perfect example, just look at Alabama, even Nick Saban has just announced he is retiring. Nick Saban is 72, the same age as Pete Carroll. Alabama stopped winning and couldn't even make it into the final 4 of the College Football Playoff this year and voilà Nick Saban retires. Retire, enjoy the twilight of your life and spend some quality time with your wife. My dad passed away at 71, but at least he retired at 55 and was able to enjoy another 20 years of his life before he got sick. You never know when your time is up, there is no need for Pete Carroll to keep working at this age. He has made enough money, he should enjoy the fruits of his labor.
They could have mentorship/apprenticeships with legends and up and coming coaches to publicize the passing of the torch and make it special/ceremonious
If it was any other season, I'd be iffy on this topic. However, there's a lot of good coaches that'll be available for the Seahawks so it makes perfect sense to move on from Pete.
As a Seahawks fan the best argument to let Pete go is ... He is a defensive coach who's defense has been at the lower part of the league since the end of the LOB... The Seahawks held on to him longer than they should out of respect for what he did... Love Pete for everything he did but agree time to get younger and move in an offensive direction.
Some analysts obviously don’t watch football we been ranked in the bottom of defense for the PAST 6-7 YEARS dead last in run defense with a “defensive coach” love pete and what he has done but its been time to go man coming from a Seahawks fan who watches every game

Age has nothing to do with this, is he an older coach?? Yes. But just like everything in life, you have to adjust with the times. Playing defense, and running the ball, won't get you far in today's NFL. Especially when you have two studs at the WR position.
Youre wrong. History repeats itself. The Ravens run the ball and play defense, the 49ers run the ball and play defense. By the way, the running and off sets our opponents defending us and sets up the pass. Remember Marshall Lynch- the dual threat keeps defenses on their toes.
We need to stop acting like things in life have to be particular people. It’s not age that matters. Or race, gender. Only thing that matters is, how well do you do that job? That’s what matters. Doesn’t matter about anything else. That’s goes for anything in life..
@@sthomas730 You simply believe what anyone on TV tells you? Aside from McVeigh - with a stacked team and help from the refs, name a young coach who won a super bowl recently?
These are a compilation of bad takes from 1 segment. These coaches are blessed with GM’s that’s bringing them the groceries to cook. Ageism is all Shady and Acho is spewing. Seattle will struggle for several seasons and Pete will go and coach a superbowl winner. I hope that the Chargers pick him up.

I think being older and more experienced is better in coaching. These young, coached teams have a good front office that knows how to draft. Thats why it seems like they are young and innovated.
As a major Steelers fan, everything your saying about Pete Carroll is the exact same for Tomlin, I don’t understand why u guys don’t keep that same energy when talking about Tomlin
i think this was a VERY respectful way of firing someone. name the last head coach to be fired and the team said "you can still stay here and still have a voice" idk any other team whose let their coach goal and then offered them another position on the team. obviously pete doesn't want to be fired, but pete would coach till he was 100 if he was allowed. at some point you have to say "i know you did so much for us, and you obviously want to keep coaching, but we need to go in a different direction" but then because of all he has done, they offered him pretty good position for someone you just fired lol. like while he won't have direct control over anything. he still has a say in how things go and his voice carries a lot of weight.
Acho is against age.....but he is right....the NFL has changed....it's an offensive game now....and Pete is about defense. The league is getting younger like most organizations....Pete would bow out, so the owner fired him. We all knew it was coming. 😊😊😊
Pete hasn’t been about defense for the past 7 years… I watch every single game. This year we were 31 against the run and bottom against pass defense. The defense and the offense was atrocious with the talent they have
The Chargers coach is younger than me and how then that go? A 65 year old coach then been to 3 of the last 4 Superbowls and won 2 including the last one
The age shouldn't be the crux of the argument, it's about "what have you done for me lately" or whatever Janet said. 😂 I agree, look at the production and if there's alignment w/ their goals. Also, I'm curious to see who the Seachickens pick up after PC and how they do in our conference/division and overall. 🤷🏾♀️
I wish they fleshed out the young/old thing. The young coaches are bringing new schemes and innovating their offense. The old coaches are for the most part stuck in their ways and if the league is changing and their strategies have become antiquated, then it’s time for a change. No team wants to perpetually be 9-8 with little to no chance of success in the playoffs
McCoy trying to act like Pete is not even in the same universe as Andy is wild. Sure, Andy is better but as good as he is, he was still ringless before he got a stacked KC team and the heir to the GOAT. Let's not act like Wilson and Gino Smith are world beaters. The role of a coach is to maximize his players and team's potential. Did Pete do that? Yes. You can't say someone who's done that for as long as he did, is not even in the same universe as Andy.

Pete has been outcoached by Shannahan and McVay waaaay too much the last few seasons. It's very unfortunate but it was time to let Pete walk or let him go.
Seattle hasn't YET made the right decision to fire Pete because we haven't seen how they plan to move forward. We haven't seen next steps.
Doesn't call plays. Now, did Pete KNOW the play call and let it go through? Different story. Not sure.
Personally, I was so disgusted when that happened I didn't watch or follow sports of any kind for the next 9 months (I normally follow baseball and football and will watch playoff NBA). One of the worse moments in sports.
He made geno smith a pro bowler
Andy Reid has dudes who can’t catch the football and constantly make mental mistakes and who can’t block. Settle down Shady. Dude hanging on dudes area
They had a conversation with Pete and they mutually parted ways and he got some equity and bread 🍞 from it - great coach great career
Crazy how Mccoy says the NFL doesn't owe anyone nothing, but he felt like he should've been the lead back in Kansas City because of who he was 😂
It's not Geno who cost the Seahawks, it was the defense.
The only reason I agree with the decision is because he didn’t give marshawn the ball on the 1
😂
I'm not even a Seahawks fan and I could tell Carroll never made that call. He just took the blame for it
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@maskedman5657 I think he later said he told Bevell "Give me a pass", and Bevell called it.
He had 3 times to get in the end zone, and he ran for an inch.
This happened to Rick Adelman of the Sacramento Kings almost 20 years ago. Took the Kings until last season to make it back to the playoffs!
Seattle, before Pete was a consistently under .500 team since their expansion year of joining the league.
Not the same adelman didn't win the chip and had he not put his ego over the players Pete could've won one more or two
you apparently missed that we made a SB in 2005, 5 years before Pete became HC. yes we didn't win it, but to say we were consistently a below .500 team before pete came is a false statement. ever since the turn of the century we have been a winning franchise
@@lfjwatt i don't think he said they were ALwAYS under .500 lol. they were however consistently (meaning more often then not) a below average team.
why are you lying :D
You can tell most of the commentariat knows nothing about Seattle. Pete had 1 year left on his contract. We needed massive coaching changes on both sides of the ball and the available coaching pool is the best it has been in awhile. It was time, Pete is and will be a legend. Also went to the Super Bowl under Holmgren.
Nah. You're going to get a coaching change and be mediocre for 4-5 years, at least.
"How old is Stefanski?? Gotta be in his 50s!! Nah. Hes 41"
Poor Stefanski getting hit with shrapnel 😂😂
All these so called golden child coaches haven’t won anything
Bad take… great coach doesn’t matter if it’s offense or defense… Great coach of men
That's back in the days not now
@@kbjr9423 so GREAT doesn’t apply to NOW anymore and the criterial is YOUNG?… that sound like a bad take as well… lol 😝
Did I just hear that Pete Carroll is known for running the ball? 😂 😂 😂
I'm still aint over not giving it to Beatmode😂
Now dats krazy den a mutha!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 y’all killing me bruh

Uh none of these young coaches won a Super Bowl without a franchise QB either or am I missing something? Lol they all needed to get a star QB to come in order to win anything
Bingo!
Basically you guys are calling him old and outdated but yet saying on the other side of the month. Rediculus!
Shadys host was USC Reggie Bush? That visit must’ve went CRAZY! 😂
@@jessArcade 100%
Pete looks younger than Andy Reid 💀
And runs with his team at practices. He'll be missed on the sidelines in Seattle.
I rock wit Shady, but Reid and Carroll are on different levels???
If Carroll had Mahomes he'd probably have more rings too
As a Seahawks fan I wanted Pete to go … he’s a legendary coach but his apex is gone he doesn’t have an upside.
If you think so, don’t think Pete could coach these guys to a ring in the near future?
Pete Carrol is a legend. That team with Russ and that defense hands down one of the best teams in modern day football we’ve seen
Joy is the smartest at the desk yet again
Ummm…. He is a defensive HC, our defense been trending downward since LOB (which was 6 or 7 years ago) last 3 years rank - 25, 26, and now 30 😬 love Pete but it was time 🙌🏿
they don’t like that facts
You people say he hasn't won a playoff in a long time how come Tomlin gets a pass on that we know
2 different teams, different way they run their team.
@@FaceFamous same result these commentators give passes to certain people
@@faustinomontoya1549 There’s three main reasons.
This show has the most impressive woman in sports. She is intelligent, passionate, credible, balanced, and classy. This woman needs her own show.
short of being a woman there is nothing about her that says she deserves her own show. . except you know, those things.
And yet ppl in the comments still finds ways to hate her😢
I know it’s a troll comment but tbh when she isn’t just riding whatever Shady says, Joy can actually talk sports pretty well.
So much "it's offense" but the both 1st seeds have the best defenses in the league 😅
I love listening to James Jones (JJ)! He’s so good and informative with his anaolgies 😊
Yes Pete Carroll is a SUPER GREAT…. National champ - been to 2 super bowls and won one…. Hopefully Dan Campbell hires him as a senior adviy
If it was any other season, I'd be iffy on this topic. However, there's a lot of good coaches that'll be available for the Seahawks so it makes perfect sense to move on from Pete.
None of those young coaches would take this Steelers team to the playoffs
McVay but not the others including Kyle.
Seahawks were 9-8 . Crazy decision to fire Pete Carroll. The Cardinals should hire him right away.
I think Washington would be a good fit. Get a veteran coach in there to set the culture for a team looking to rebuild
He's an advisor for Seattle now. The people still love Pete. And Seattle knows how valuable he still is.
Demeco’s offensive coordinator is young also he coached on the 2013 Washington team with McVay, McDaniels,Lafleur, and Shanahan.
Some analysts obviously don’t watch football we been ranked in the bottom of defense for the PAST 6-7 YEARS dead last in run defense with a “defensive coach” love pete and what he has done but its been time to go man coming from a Seahawks fan who watches every game
yeah anyone disagreeing with the move is not a seahawks fan lmfao

@@disqusrubbish5467 that was petes defense not ken norton bro we ran the same defense even AFTERR ken left cover 3 match was here he tried to recreate the LOB and it didn’t work with his new personnel
Ocho keep saying Mike McDaniel is part Mcvays tree but in fact they both was under Kyle Shanahan in Washington with RG3. Give Kyle his credit. Best coach under 50!
Except for blowing double digit leads in his two Superbowl appearances - once as Falcons OC and as the Niners HC.
True 😂 but we make mistakes
Age has nothing to do with this, is he an older coach?? Yes. But just like everything in life, you have to adjust with the times. Playing defense, and running the ball, won't get you far in today's NFL. Especially when you have two studs at the WR position.
Tell that to the 49ers clown
Youre wrong. History repeats itself. The Ravens run the ball and play defense, the 49ers run the ball and play defense. By the way, the running and off sets our opponents defending us and sets up the pass. Remember Marshall Lynch- the dual threat keeps defenses on their toes.
he is senile tho
We need to stop acting like things in life have to be particular people. It’s not age that matters. Or race, gender. Only thing that matters is, how well do you do that job? That’s what matters. Doesn’t matter about anything else. That’s goes for anything in life..
The argument shouldn't be about age, it's about performance
Pete did keep up so well against the young coaches he went 0-4 against Mcvay and Shanahan
All these people are sitting here and telling you r old you need to go home is the young people world 💀😂
The younger guys are not BETTER, they are just perceived as POSSIBLY being of more energy. Shanahan has a lot of hype, but he has yet to win a thing.
Yes they are because the old coaches haven't won anything it's time to move on from them and start fresh it's a new era of football
Seahawks roster is good and talented, they won't be as bad as you think. This is why Seattle let Pete Caroll go, stacked with talent but not much production

Mike McDaniels is from the Kyle Shanahan tree. NOT Sean McVey🫨

I HAAATE the seahawks... Feel like this was a mistake, Pete is the real deal and this is gonna bite them in the ARSE haha love it
Joy makes the most sense out this group which is crazy because she’s the only that haven’t played football
Why does that logically follow?

Pete should’ve been able to leave on his on terms I don’t even remember the coach before Pete and I’m 42 I wanna say it was the old GB coach 😂
Jim Mora who was fired after his lonesome 2009-2010 season.
The defense kept Seattle out of the playoffs, it was not at all geno’s fault
This show is getting so bad, even Joy is baffled by the points lesean is making
Lol the rams brought in every good player and gave away all their draft picks to win that 1 superbowl and haven't done jack since.
Do you guys analysis anything? Verify and clarify info? NO! You’re discussing on a topic you have no idea or full story. 🤦
I Team - is spell wrong.
Acho is against age.....but he is right....the NFL has changed....it's an offensive game now....and Pete is about defense. The league is getting younger like most organizations....Pete would bow out, so the owner fired him. We all knew it was coming. 😊😊😊
💯💯💯
He's against average coaching.
Yeah that Mahomes had the answers....
When McNabb didnt...
Kyle Shanahan has lost 2 superbowls and won none.
Shut up
if we get harbaugh we are running the division most likely, as long as we have a good QB after geno since he's not winning us a ring
Young vs. old has nothing to do with it! That being said, it was time for him to move on. I love Pete. Hopefully, seattle can get a good coach
Leave it to brilliant Joy to bring the block back to the topic at hand and alleviate the ageism bias ❤ you are a Queen 😊
Pete caroll hasn't been same ever since that superbowl call lost .
It’s also great market for coaches this year.
Shady McCoy talking about someone being old and knowing when it's time is irony at it's best. Still salty at EB and the way his KC career ended.
Every hawks game is always a heart attack game. 👋 Pete
Carroll fumbled a dynasty, overdue
Did he fumble it or was it intercepted?
Lol faxxx
The difference with Tomlin and Pete is there both defensive coaches but Tomlin still coaches good defense. Pete's defense has been horrible for years
McCoy trying to act like Pete is not even in the same universe as Andy is wild.
The other reason no one talks about is that the older coaches demand more money.
