Yeah! That’s one of the things that I love about dollightfull’s less human characters, she’s not scared to get monstrous or scary. The only one of her monster character designs that I can think of that’s actually idealized or meant to be attractive is Ember, the demon girl, but given her succubus origins that actually makes a lot of sense. Anyway, I just love Katherine’s work and always appreciate seeing female creature designs that aren’t super sexualized.
While I'm very sad to see Wendy go, I do respect your decision and my respect for you has gone up because it shows you care a lot about your audience and their cultures.
I had to do some research myself. I didn’t see how the character was offensive. Granted I’m not part of that culture and I LOVE the story of the Wendigo. Mainly because of until Dawn. But after I read up on the subject. Apparently the DESIGN of the doll was what was “offensive” because it wasn’t how certain parts of the culture see them. But other parts of the culture DO visualize them as the way she made it. But even with all this research I did and reading on what she read on. I still can’t see how it was offensive. But again I’m not from that culture. I still respect her decision

It can he seen as offensive by taking parts of our cultures and using them for “aesthetics”, like Coachella goers wearing war bonnets to look “”tribal””. Of course, there is a fine line between appropriation and appreciation, and I believe that Dollightful’s doll was the latter, it was respectful of her to take down the video and educating herself instead of insisting that it wasn’t “appropriation”. (Also note, sometimes the people who cry that something is appropriation aren’t even Indigenous themselves, there have been Indigenous peoples who have voiced that the doll was not offensive.) So to answer your question in short form; Yes, it can be considered offensive. It is better to play safe than sorry when it comes to interpreting different cultures in art form.

Tip from a fursuit maker on fur: Instead of using scissors, flip the fur and use an x-acto blade on the backing, making sure not to cut any fur. That way, you have less of a chance of accidentally chopping any of the floof :D

What I love most about Dollightful's dolls is body modifications and basically dolls that don't look human. A basic looking human doll with the same costume wouldn't be interesting in my opinion.

Thank you Dollightful for showing me how to make a movable jaw! I've wanted to make an animal art doll for awhile now and have all the materials. I also wanted to try to tackle a movable jaw, however no video I've found really showed me how to accomplish this and pictures don't really do it justice. At least, not in such a new-user-friendly way. So thank you so much!
If you need another possible character design, make the She-werewolf’s human form! It could be fun to see how well you could replicate the dress but in a non torn up form!
I actually love the concept and execution of the French dress costume. I feel like it elevated it above any standard werewolf approach. I also just love that it’s a ferocious female werewolf that hasn’t been sexualized, since that’s usually the only female version you might see and it’s pretty unrelatable and insulting that that’s all we women usually get.

As a person who is part native American I loved the wendigo doll and I am sad to see such a beautiful doll put away never to be seen in new videos ever again it makes me hope she comes back on Halloween so we may see her again.😥😥😥
The wendigo doll isn’t coming back. 😔 she said that she’s taken the video down and removed the doll from the Halloween lineup such a shame as I’ve seen many people who say that they are Native Americans and they thought the doll was beautiful.

Kaaaaathrine! The key to drilling holes in thin wood is to step up through drill bit sizes gradually, You want to start with a small pilot hole, 1mm, and then step up in size until you get to where you want to. You will save yourself so much trouble. A large drill bit, even going slowly is still a huge blade with a lot of force behind it.
@@Dollightful Thank you youtube for not notifying me of your reply -_- coffee stir and popsicle sticks aren't the most structurally sound, they are made of very soft wood with the grain running along length from tip to tip, which is where the wood breaks. I would recommend using a pin vise instead of a power drill. Even if you are going slowly with the power drill, there is a lot of torque behind it which will keep the drill bit turning even if it snags which causes the wood to split. A pin vise will allow you to control the force behind it.

The first video of hers I watched was a fanart she did for Chad Alan, Lastic, Audrey, and maybe Ryan (I honestly can't remember, it was a long time ago) that got a shout-out in one of their minecraft videos. You mentioned being a bit concerned about her fur coloring. I'm actually a fur collector, and study patterns in wolves and coyotes, and truthfully cutting the wolf fur to give just the beige and grey toned undercoat is... pretty realistic over most of the coat. Plenty of gray wolves only have black pigment along the spine and the tail. In some of the later shots when you see her tail, the end of the tail seems to have a black tip, which is pretty dang accurate
Genuinely impressed you went for a ferocious and fearsome looking doll custom and not the usual "cutesy" halloween adaptations you see a lot of. That head sculpt is amazing! And the added touch of tearing the dress she's emerging from gave just the right amount of hints to her gender while still retaining the fierce beast look.
Hearing you say "bizarre mechanical pidgeon" and seeing the armerature for the face has really inspired me, which may seem sorta weird but now I find myself with the strong urge to make a plague doctor doll.....hmmmm

I also wanted to try to tackle a movable jaw, however no video I've found really showed me how to accomplish this and pictures don't really do it justice. I actually love the concept and execution of the French dress costume. I feel like it elevated it above any standard werewolf approach. I also just love that it’s a ferocious female werewolf that hasn’t been sexualized, since that’s usually the only female version you might see and it’s pretty unrelatable and insulting that that’s all we women usually get.

Kaaaaathrine! The key to drilling holes in thin wood is to step up through drill bit sizes gradually, You want to start with a small pilot hole, 1mm, and then step up in size until you get to where you want to. You will save yourself so much trouble. A large drill bit, even going slowly is still a huge blade with a lot of force behind it.
I've tried that several times, but it seem to split even more easily? is it just the type of wood maybe?
Maybe I need to step up the drill size more gradually....

coffee stir and popsicle sticks aren't the most structurally sound, they are made of very soft wood with the grain running along length from tip to tip, which is where the wood breaks. I would recommend using a pin vise instead of a power drill.
Even if you are going slowly with the power drill, there is a lot of torque behind it which will keep the drill bit turning even if it snags which causes the wood to split. A pin vise will allow you to control the force behind it.

@_flyga _ with all the work she had done on the doll at the time and the new found mistake behind the doll, if she were to try and reuse the doll, I don’t think she could make a video out of it or else it could cause more harm than good. Not to mention materials used on the doll could’ve been costly... but that’s just my perspective

You mentioned being a bit concerned about her fur coloring. I'm actually a fur collector, and study patterns in wolves and coyotes, and truthfully cutting the wolf fur to give just the beige and grey toned undercoat is... pretty realistic over most of the coat. Plenty of gray wolves only have black pigment along the spine and the tail. In some of the later shots when you see her tail, the end of the tail seems to have a black tip, which is pretty dang accurate
Genuinely impressed you went for a ferocious and fearsome looking doll custom and not the usual "cutesy" halloween adaptations you see a lot of. That head sculpt is amazing! And the added touch of tearing the dress she's emerging from gave just the right amount of hints to her gender while still retaining the fierce beast look.
