It was insane
For whatever reason 8 and 8.5 are indistinguishable to me in my memory. Can’t even remember the major changes but admin was my favorite trait of all time.
First time a trait that would let you cook 👨🍳
The biggest 8.5 changes were the addition of the funky "glitched" carousel versions, the new vertical Trait InfiniTeam, reworking LaserCorps, and replacing Recon with Quickdraw. The rest were pretty minor changes.
Not the most transformative midset of all time, I'll give you that.
Morgana isnthe only thing I remember abt 8.5
They added the riftwalker trait set 8 and 8.5 had some of my favorite units like ezreal vayne and jhin

This was one of the only sets I never got tired of playing as the hero augments made quite a few funky builds possible.
Yuumi being able to curve her spell outside the board and snipe your carry was crazy.
There were a ton of hero Augments that stacked when you played multiple units. Like double or triple Sylas made miss fortune cast at the start of the fight
Hero Augments are definitely my favourite evergreen mechanic. Turning a tank into a carry changes how you approach the game and most of them have crazy effects.
Sets 8 and 8.5 were my favourite. I love hero augments, and the idea of making pretty much every champion a carry. Making Rell unkillable with her carry augment, or Malphite a 1v9 machine were sooo much fun. Also, you forgot to mention Shen reworked carry augment, that made him deal true damage scaling with his armor, so you would play 6 defenders and 3 Shens. It was hillarious, and really broken so it was b-patched after a day, but still it was hilarious.
This video was focusing on set 8. Hero Shen (Time knife) is why all hero augments now say "strongest champion"

And dont forgot the Early Meta with Zoe suddenly Melting all you broad with her dot that look unimpress at the start
Yeah, I was really happy that the Shen augment was back the previous set with ethereal blades
I feel like the worst thing about yuumi was that the patch she was insane in was over riots Christmas break. So everyone knew that yuumi was broken but nothing could be done about it for like 2-3 weeks whichade it last in people's minds longer
Not mentioning the nightmare that is Hyperbolic Time Chamber is absolute criminal. That hero aug has like a 3.0 avg

@@shirayuki2974 The whole InfiniTeam trait (including Lucian) was the main addition with 8.5, that's why none of it got mentioned here.
I’m almost afraid to comment how much enjoying Yummi was in that set. Also watching Nunu get big snowball.

I also miss Yuumi so much, I was very sad when the midset patch they removed her
The main problem with Yuumi was that the patch where she was OP was during Christmas break, meaning it lasted twice as long as any regular patch, with no chance of a hotfix. She was fun at first, but at least in my opinion she got really obnoxious after a week or so.

The old Blue Buff and Yuumi augment and the mana augment that gave you mana back too??
It was sooo satisfying aaaaa
So many good and mixed memories from this set that definitely made it unique. Playing multiple copies of Vel'koz with Shojin on just one so they'd repeatedly stun enemy carries was delightfully evil. Playing Recon & Threat 3-cost reroll was one of my favorite comps of all time. ADMIN and Janna were really great takes on variable traits; they nailed both of these. There was a really funny drain tank Zed build you could do because omnivamp included Lasercorp damage for some reason.
I spent so much time complaining about how hero augments affected multiple of the same unit, especially with the augment that made Aurelion Sol's spell stun. It felt like it took Riot a little too long to change hero augments to only affect the strongest copy.
Some bad times besides what you mentioned included picking the same carry augment as someone else (especially for reroll), Samira being bugged in various ways through nearly the entire set, and the infamous multicaster patch.
The thing that I remember most from this set was how unbelievably awful lux was cause she would constantly miss. I kinda wished you talked about 8.5, that was probably the most fun I've ever had in tft. I ran morgana, aatrox and sona literally every game and threw in some other threats and heart units. If I'm remembering correctly when infiniteam came out Lucian was the new yuumi. Underground was probably my favorite econ trait they ever made
Man Admin was amazing, I picked the health option every time for some truly beefy units.
this set had so many geeeems, hacker leblanc is still my favorite comp of all times lol
I had a game one time where I got 5 Mech with Mech spat on Fiddle. I went Mr.100 with that game. It was one of those games you never forget about.
Set 8 best set of all time IMO. Kayle and Ez both had their time in the sun btw. Especially Ez. He had that exodia build where you'd run underground, 3 star him, then cashout and push levels. You'd play double ez (the 2 cost and 5 cost) to give him a double cast.

I was SO excited for fiddle this set but even with a hero aug he never felt strong
i loved admin so much, having the health stacking for a tanky team or raw ap for leblanc/soraka was so fun
Post nerf yuumi is the most fun unit in tft. Putting her at the second line to snipe carry cemented in me to scout boards. Good times

Surprised to see little mention of just how toxic Jax and especially Hacker Draven was in the set. Still gives me nightmares

i started tft with set 8.5 and i rly miss this set. I loved those carry augments.
Hacker LeBlanc with Archangels + Zhonyas/EoN + JG/Deathcap was TOOOOO fun. Back line jump with aggro drop and scaling AP + spell vamp.
Admin on ally death gain mana and you have a recipe for 1st place
Oh and just remembered out of nowhere, who remembers the world tft finals with the draven mech clutch that rereplay played ? 😂
This is the first set that i spam one comp underground to diamone, the best moment i still remember was 24 hp left and take golden eggs while need more 3 point for the cash out, i was top 1 that game
Yummi carry was wild hahahah just now I noticed that we used to play yummi (a support shamp) as a tft main carry
I remember 8.5 Gadgeteen with this 40% dmg reduction Gnar and Annie, cried a few time facing thoses monsters
By far the best set ive played till today and my first one. Man Admin was on point. I always searched for admin lee sin with hero augment. That shi was amazing. Or having a rainshower of gold. I miss this set so much

My favorite comp on this set.... Air force blitzcrank (cornering blitz while trading the rest of lasercorp)

The funny thing about super is I never had ever manages to 3 star all of them when I play it
Ezreal from this set might be one of the most satisfying units in tft history, I think with supers this set was the most fun I’ve ever had playing reroll between ezreal, Draven Lulu and yes… even yuumi

My favorite thing to in set 8.5 is Mascot Mecha,basically you get a unit that is so tanky and that you can guaranteed going into overtime and draw,yes even againt a Leona that constantly raining lazers on it

Man looking back...wtf was Yuumi atk augment rr and why do I remember it being broken for months...
Anyone remember Samira being bugged for MAJORITY of the set causing her to lose her entire 2s stun lock cast, which resulted in even her 3* not even really being a unit? Yeah me too...
There was never better than seeing the Droven money generating trait 💰
I played Set 1 to try tft.. then didn't touch the game until Set 8. I got hopelessly hooked that time.
Oh the memories... this set was when I came back to tft after set 1 😂 the set was crazy when thinking back, I kinda loved the hero card augments, specially mf and vayne. I remember just forcing duelists or mascot/anima squad. MF would just oneshot the entire board if she had her carry card 😂 it was hilarious

This set was a couple tweaks away from being my personal favourite. Hacker and Ox Force causing as many issues as they did really taints its legacy, but it had a lot of fun champs, traits, and every champ had a chance to shine it felt like. Still gotta give the crown to set 6, but this one is second place for me.
I saw someone lost with fiddle 3 because he put fid at the back so when aatrox scaled insane ap and got about 40k hp, that is just over for fiddle
BEST SET EVER, I always had a different comp to try, , and the units were so unique

Set 8 is probably the best set I played since I started in set 7 (And yes I am still waiting for Riot to bring back 6 so I can see what all the fuzz is about)
For me personally balance is always secondary to fun and I just really enjoyed all the units from set 8 and all the fun comps that where wierd but still strong, the cool postioning (shoutout to frintline MF to get the best ult) just in general it was very fun to play and personally only the current set actually matched this for me

Set 8.5 was my first time ever hitting masters, and it was all thanks to lucian reroll. Blitz was a beast tank and if you got a good admin trait, lucian could carry like a 5 cost. 100% my favorite comp in tft by far
Been playing since set 3 and got to say 8 was the best. Gankplank was my boy in this set.

There was at least 1 Patch that Jax absolutely obliterated everything with Guinsoos. I remember lobbies with 3 Jax players and all getting top 3 just because he was even more overpowered than Garen set 3
Talon reroll, double Lee sin Heart with tank items. Wanna see a 1 cost LuLu one shot a 2 star Urgot?
My guilty pleasure was lulu and pantheon duo carry, spamed it to masters
admin-brawler blitz where blitz gained max hp every round and had 10k+ hp in late game
super mecha sett + samira being the comp 5 people in the lobby went to for a couple weeks until it got nerfed
Rammus reroll and crossing your fingers for a defender (armor trait) emblem to insta win the game
The best about the set was definitely the threat trait. If you had good econ but you didn't hit anything, or your comp was randomly contested, you could just pivot into threats and get a half decent board. Ausol turned a lot of 8th places into top 4s for me.
Best set ever, I had the most fun there
Best set all time, a lot of diversity and a shit ton of wacky stuff. But that's what makes it so special. (Miss you Flaming richochet GP)
and also, bring back underground. It's the easiest to understand "fortune" trait, all modern one are hard to understand and you need to have a guide on the side to know what you can cash out (so when do you need to get out of it). Also Ezreal/Vi reroll were fun af
Set 8 was perfect. Set 8.5 was awful. They deleted all the fun champions and synergies.
I miss my brawler jax reroll, defender rammus by precious boi and brawler Zac my other precious boi

For why ekko is so good cause he is one of the best pure tank in tft history he have a large shied a tunt and star guardian give him mana to cause more making him tank so much damage

Leon do not fucking work as a one hit kill I aways remember my 2 star leona ulting a 2 star nunu for near 15 s and still can't kill it as mascot out heal the damage my leo die to nunu in over time
