As a person from post-soviet country I am quite interested in different areas of art that were censored by the government. Soviet rock legend(who died at 28, as a proper rock legend) and his band were also experiencing pressure from government. Everything becomes even more interesting at the beginning of 1990s, when everything is nearly crashed. There are a few really wierd cartoons that I can remember. A bit distressing, but that makes them even more fascinating.
Your videos are so well directed with great writing. My partner and I were saying how eloquently you speak and were wondering if you were a sociology major based on some of your other videos ahah. Love the videos. We can't wait to see more!
Arseny Tarkovskys poem жизнь, жизнь life, life, is my favorite poem currently. I find him to be a fascinating figure I love зеркало and this is probably the best video I’ve seen analyzing it so far. I don’t fully understand the film but the feelings it conveys and the temporality it makes the viewer experience are really impactful.
It's nice hearing people discussing things they enjoy. Don't get me wrong, bashing something silly is fun, but a good analysis of a piece of media the speaker enjoys is just as good if not better.
Mirror is such a beautiful experience, although one I’m always apprehensive to recommend to people. Tarkovsky is the goat, but he can be so unapproachable 😭

Small correction: social (soviet) realism was popular in 1930s-1950s, ever since the new wave movement in 1960s soc-realism was no longer mainstream. The film was released in a limited number of cinemas due to its political subtext. Otherwise, good job!

hear my case: she's a youtuber who is spreading 'body positivity' by basically shaming celebrities for having plastic surgery. she doesn't have any real proof and isn't an expert so she basically is just gossiping. It felt forced, like she was saying the same thing over and over again in each video.The clickbaity thumbnails, and her “truth behind the glow up” series dissecting celebs ‘before and afters’ while forcibly trying to be nice, saying “she’s gorgeous either way” yet the title said things like their surgery is gross/ a mess. not just celebrities but random instagrammers too. i'm just sitting there thinking what gives her the right to bully the appearances of people under the guise of 'body positivity' and doing for 'young girls'. How about if someone started dissecting her looks and she swears she just contures her nose.

Some feedback: the vid had no hook to make me want to hear about Mirror (i.e. "Why ratatouille is Pixar magnum opus). Then again, that had a sold my soul for the yt algorithm kinda vibe to it
prob have to watch this some time since ive mostly watched western/american films. thoughts on the godfather movies (if you've seen them)? they were released around the same time as mirror but much lengthier.

Ok I just watched one of ur vids from a long time ago and honestly dream collab for u to collab w benoftheweek or drama mama (his podcast channel) anyways nice vid ur very funny
"The film is not elitist. it is confusing for everyone" proceeds to analyse the movie, there by understanding it, based on a higher understanding of art, film, history and theory. An Understanding which is elitst by nature because it is not execessable to everyone, especialy the working class. lol
Now, I think there is a point to be made about wether the accessibility of art is the same as a deep interpretation. I think especially such subjective art does not necessarily need to be understood, but lived and reflected upon. Nevermind that media literacy is something that is especially important for the worker. it's elitism is man made.
