  • In this video we clear the scuttle panel drains on our 2005 Renault Megane. This can cure problems such as water logged foot-well storage boxes, water sloshing noises from behind the dash, and difficulty in demisting the car.

    Great video. This was really helpful.
    A couple of my findings in case it helps anyone out there. My car is a 58 plate UK RHD. So its getting old!.
    The plastic side parts that goes to the windscreen could be pulled upward without any tools. Those came out with a bit of gentle force. The main problem i had was unblocking the drain pipes and wiper arm removal. Getting the wiper arm nuts off was easy but the arms refused to come off after years of corrosion, even with WD40 applied. Had to buy a pulling tool from a local shop (as you suggested), and that then did the trick. Drivers side drain pipe was blocked but unblocked easily using stiff bit of copper wire with tape wrapped around the end so it wasn't sharp. But the passenger side was totally blocked and would not shift. In the end, i used boiling hot water in the hole and a plumbers cleaning tool, like a brush on a flexible pipe. Eventually it shifted it!. Loads of black crud came out the bottom.. Then finished up with a hose pipe and flushed both drains through. Done. Now how does this long rubber seal clip back into place along the scuttle tray? Just seems to sit there without any clips along the front? assume it just sits there..

    • @iofix
      @iofix  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the extra info. Re that rubber seal... think it's supposed to clip onto the sound deadening moulding, but on mine that moulding has lost it's rigidity so I have that moulding cable tied to the plastic cowling to hold it in place, then the rubber seal, in the centre portion anyway, just sits on top. I've had it like that for a few years now!

    • @g0bzy
      @g0bzy 4 місяці тому

      @@iofix That makes sense, yes the sound deading on mine is also totally floppy in the middle area and wont fix to the rubber seal. So cables ties it is !! Cheers.

      Hi there! An old lady from the countryside asked me about this, she's neighbor with my grandparents, the car is far away but I said I'll look on the internet and help her this weekend, she said that the headlights often burn out and that she hears electric short sounds at the turn signals, also when turning, she can hear water. (Exactly like in the video)
      Are these problems similar to those encountered by you at the electrical part? did you have to do anything else to the car or was unclogging the drains enough?
      Thank you!

      Has your car got a sunroof? If so most cars will have drains running from the front and back of the drip tray. While not impossible it's not likely to be loose clamps or split pipes. Probably a similar issue to here. Run the pipes through with an old length of bicycle cable outer ling enough to reach all the way and flush with clean water during and after.
      If not no sunroof check the aerial gasket on the roof, make sure it's clean and tight (don't over do the large base nut, they're pretty soft!) you can use a smear of sealant to help seal it. Also check the grommets etc where any electrical cables/harnesses pass between the doors and boot lid to the body. The rear washer pipe also runs along the sill so check that it isn't leaking. Finally and unlikely to be the culprit as it's the rear but you never know:ake sure the Aircon unit drain is clear and properly located.
      Good luck!

    Just a suggestion why not cut holes big enough for the drain cleaner tool and then you don’t have to remove all the plastics and the wiper you can just use the hose and the tool to clean the gutter drain. There’s already some holes in the top plastic it just needs another two to have direct access above the gutter

      Alternative method is poke an old cable down there (motorcycle and the like and jiggle it around while flushing with lots of clean water, sorted!

    I think you have a bigger problem then water leaking in. Your missing a steering wheel ,brake pedal, clutch, and gas pedal.😂🤣😂🤣😂
