An underrated thing about this hack compared to Nimpize and Master of time is that the dialogue matches much better with how it’s written in the vanilla games. You don’t notice it as much which means it’s doing it’s job correctly. Edit: I appreciate other pointing out localization and linguistic challenges that contribute to this. I do not mean to put down the extremely hard work from those who worked on the other hacks and may not be native English speakers, but rather appreciate how this hack in particular commits to the canon and tone of the vanilla games.
Tristan Hakaize I’m not blaming them for English not being the first language, and I can appreciate localization of puns/jokes, but I think the tone fundamentally breaks with the core games sometimes for the better (the recruiter in Master of Time made me literally break out in laughter) but mostly for worse. I think the stories could have benefited from story boarding, someone to copy edit and someone to smooth out the edges a bit.
like im surprised they managed to get romhack music to sound so natural when you compare it to some sm64 hacks, hollow root keep music is ridiculously good
@@beesmongeese2978 "if you hack in 100 Deku Nuts". Honestly given the kind of easter eggs kaze can hide. I wouldn't be surprised if he thought about that.
I love this romhack. The dialogues, music, the challenges, it's quite lovely. Back then I thought it's a longer game but I won't complain about that since it's hard to make a romhack and surely the makers have other things to do meanwhile, so it's much appreciated. I'm just a bit disappointed or rather confused about a few things. Since it's supposed to be a sequel to OoT and a prequel to MM, the story doesn't make much sense. Link warns Zelda, goes back to Kokiri Forest and the demon almost caught every fairy already. That demon then would have been in OoT as well when Link was sealed away. It's still an amazingly cool custom boss and a nice addition to Zelda lore, but it felt off as a connection between the games. There could have been a cutscene where Zelda acknowledges Link as a hero and gives him his new shield he wears in MM, as a reward for being a hero, this would explain why Links shield in MM looks so different. In Twilight Princess, you see Ganondorf be executed for his crimes he wanted to commit. The sages fail and one is killed off. It would have been amazing to see that killed sage being the new villain. Like before Ganondorf is sealed away, he overwrote that sage's spirit with his evil intentions, like a failsafe. This would have brought TP kinda into the story, where that sealing scene happens after Link told Zelda about his plans.
I honestly found more enjoyment out of playing Master of time than I did with Missing Link, despite the over top writing and some of the odd choices in design/textures .
You guys don't even start to realise how hard is to make a ROM hack... It's pretty much like coding OoT, a full team of programmers took years to develop the game. I mean, times have changed, but still. These hacks are made single-handedly. People have lives to live too, can't burn themselves to the lowest point, right?
Wouldn't it be better if we could have a romhack with the same exact world of Ocarina of Time, but we could go to Termina, and also reach some mysterious locations like the hills behind Kakariko Village, or enter the door in Hyrule Castle. I truly don't care for these new make-up worlds in most romhacks.
The area around Castle Town is the most interesting to me. I've always imagined that the town expanded East (so, north of Death Mountain) and West, and that the wheat and other foods were harvested there. I've always wanted to explore the mountains North of Hyrule Castle too. They looked absolutely epic. Lastly let's see the Sacred Realm in all it's glory. Imagine leaving the Chamber of Sages to the entrace of the Temple of Light, all made of white marble, floating in the sky and overlooking some vast, never seen land. Stuff dreams are made out of.
It wouldn't be worth the effort of coding multiple games into one game's engine when the alternative of just loading the next game after you finish has no downsides other than a small pause. I see more value doing this in a Pokemon game, for example - where you can visit new regions and catch different Pokemon with your same save file and team.
Yo ZFG. What actually happened with that sequence break? I remember watching your streams and you were stuck for like a half hour haha but I wasn't sure what exactly you did to make that happen; had to skip forward a bit because of the backtracking haha. By the way, just began watching you and it's been great. You showing off that new route on "TAS" was really neat.
Basically he went through a "maze" early by guessing the solution was the same sequence as the Deku scrubs in the Deku Tree dungeon. Thereby missing an exit early on that led to some item he needed to progress past the scrubs at the gate, and assuming that exit was where he came from for the next several hours and never checking there.
That's the best part about ZFG really. He's just so incredibly chill. I find his content very relaxing to watch. His videos legit help me when I'm stressed. I hate it when streamers are over the top and do nothing but yell. I find it annoying. That's just my personal preference though. I understand that some people prefer that kind of energy over this.

Exactly, it has the same charm, and clearly wasn't trying too hard to be funny or serious, having a nice mix of both
Those two were made by French players who doesn't have the best english. Also the french version of OOT has a lot of puns and jokes in it.
