- Did a bear help a 3-year-old boy survive in the woods? That's what Casey Hathaway says. Casey went missing last month after he wandered into the woods while he was playing at a relative's house in North Carolina. His disappearance prompted a massive search that made national news, with hundreds of searchers joining in to look for the boy. Three days later, a neighbor heard cries coming out of the woods. Casey, who was tangled up in a bush and calling for his mom, said a bear kept him safe. #InsideEdition

@@kingong4185 Okay so schools teach hibernation all wrong. Hibernation does NOT mean the animal is sleeping all the time. If they did that, they’d die. It just means they store up more body fat, expend less energy, etc. They still go out and do animal things. And yes, a bear could take care of a young child. There have been many cases of wild animals, including predators, protecting or even “raising” human children.

I know my 3 year old… if he told me this, I’d straight up believe him, no questions asked…. Maybe it was some different kind of animal like a dog or something, but I would 100% believe an animal kept him warm if that’s what he said… kids pretend a lot, but they know the difference.

Bears have a maternal nature, there have been other stories of animals in the wild helping humans. It would be interesting to hear the little boy describe this incident in the woods when he gets older.

I think his imagination kept him safe. Envision seeing a bear through the eyes of a 3 year old lost in the wilderness. He’d quickly comprise a comforting story to tell himself to get through his fear.
Also, “Casey And The Bear” is actually a great title for a children’s story. They should capitalize on this situation.
This is possible. The human mind does do this. But there is a possibility that a placid bear found him and was intrigued by him.
He would have froze to death being in that cold for two nights and wet. Hypothermia would have killed him.

I believe this as I heard a story about a boy that was stuck in the woods when it was snowing and very cold. Some elks came and laid next to the boy and kept him warm until he was found. Some wild animals can be very kind.

That's why it's not in the Fiction Section at the library. It's actually a text book on how children should act around wild animals. You should provide that lifestyle for your own kids. Just take them out and leave them for 12 years and then go reclaim them. By "true story" I guess you mean you truly read the story and then believed it (or did you just look at the pictures and laugh at the words?)

As a kid when I lived in mexico, I would always go to my grandpas ranch everyday to hang out with the animals and ride with the horses or play with any animal I would come across with. I really dont know how no animal ever tried to hurt me.
Its a very rural area where the ranch is so there is coyotes and panthers too. Well I say the boy is telling the truth because I also would play a lot with a bear It wasnt huge but it was bigger than me. Ok so I would go hunting and one morning I spotted the bear and I was going to kill it but felt bad so left it alone and he saw me and like made the noise (like grawling) and with my mindset of being friedly with any animal, my dumbass decided to go to the bear and try to touch it. The bear smelled my hand when I reached it to back and he didnt hurt me. For the next month I would go in the mornings and give him chunks of meat and I would play with him.(I mean like throwing him stuff and the bear would run away and come back) But then my grandpa saw me as he was driving to his other ranch and pointed the rifle to the bear whilr telling me "Adrian! Vente! ( come here)

There is a family movie about an eleven year old girl who got lost and was saved by a bear, and its a true story that occured in BC Canada. Though in that case the family had raised and released the bear as a cub so it remembered the girl.

So happy to hear he was found safe. If a bear was there to keep him safe that's an amazing thing. Either way his thoughts of it comforted him and kept him safe until he was found. Glad he's now home with his family safe and warm
What matters is this young boy survived, was found and is back with his family. There is no need to either verify or discredit his claims about the bear. Rather if the bear was really there or another animal mistaken for a bear or even just a little boys imagination, whatever got him thru the ordeal is simply a miracle. And we should all just rest assured thankfully that Casey is safe and the ordeal had the ending everyone hoped for.
The thing that gets me is this isnt the first report of lost kids saying a bear saved them. This is just the first one to hit minstream news

@@kingong4185 Bears can and will wake up from hibernation on warmer days. This is common for black bears, but also grizzlies in areas such as Yellowstone. Yellowstone grizzlies sometimes skip hibernation altogether, scavenging or stealing from wolves to find food.
What bears do isn't hibernation in the way that ground squirrels and other mammals do. It's called torpor, a lighter state of sleep.

Every time someone who sees "Sasquatch" brings in a hair sample it belongs to a bear, ape, or some other known animal. Countless sightings have proven to be hoaxes.
Scientists can't find him. He's never been encountered by anyone making a wildlife documentary. Satellites that map the whole earth on Google Maps don't help locate him. None of the hidden cameras put up where he has been sighted have found him.
Yet, people constantly report him approaching them or hiding in stupidly obvious ways. Even now that everyone has high quality cameras on their cell phones and carries them around 24/7, no one who says they saw him has evidence to back it up.
God certainly could influence a bear to care for the child while lost. Marvelous outcome and glad he is safe.

It was a big black plastic bag stuck on those branches/bushes and he thought it was a bear :)
He was cold, dehydrated, hungry, and probably sleep deprived. He was probably hallucinating. The only thing that might make it plausible is that the sound of a child crying is very similar to a bear cub's distress call. However, that's from our perspective as humans, not necessarily a bear's.
It's happened before in the US but it was deer that surrounded the child to keep him warm throughout the night. He was found the following morning and there were clear deer size patches of melted snow around him from several deer. The child told his parents after he was found. I absolutely believe that bear sensed somehow he wasn't a threat and needed protecting. It's been observed happening interspecies in the wild but very rarely! But there is the odd clip out there. One is a mother lion and a deer foal.

Seen a few videos of lioness adopting baby antelopes. Protecting from other lions, keeping it hidden when it went hunting, etc. The baby antelope would even come out of hiding and greet the lioness when she returned.
It’s been 4 years, we need someone to interview him again… So he could describe in further detail than just saying “a bear”
As soon as the kid gets home he wants to watch Netflix. One of his favorite programs is Masha and the Bear. Do a quick search and you will see a bear more human and human animated than Yogi could ever hope to be back when I was young. This would certainly be the view of a 3 year old of what a bear is. Over the years I have heard in interviews and read other stories of female Bigfoots rescuing small children that have wandered off into the forest. Also Bigfoots take a much keener interest in observing ( when adequate forest is around ) small children than they do grown males. Hundreds of stories of them coming to children's bedroom windows at night to observe them, and sometimes on a continual basis. Hopefully when young Casey is older, he will retain the memories and we can have a closer understanding of what really happened.

Nature is smarter than people give it credit for. Of all the things in the world that a young child to ‘makeup’, saying a bear kept him safe is the last thing I’d imagine would be on the boys mind. Animals have protected baby’s and children before, well documented…I have no doubts this is possible a bear aided him in some way. Bear might have heard him or sniffed him out, realizing he wasn’t a threat and a small helpless ‘animal’ to the bear. A true animal spirit protecting that boy. I know if it was me in that little boys shoes, there’s not many other animals I’d want by my side than a wild bear. True kings of the forests.
On a sad day a mother bear lost five of her cub and as she wonder into the woods hoping to meet her end as she stumble upon a lost child but instead of killing him she thot of how sad the kid parents must be so she took him in and raise him as her on until his parents find him soo on the third day she went hunting but could not left him alone so she put him in a torn bush and mark her sent to keep him safe but after a while she came back seeing another human next to the child and smile that he has been found and happily walk away

Sounds really similar to a story in Greek mythology. A little child went missing, but the goddess Artemis took care of him disguised as a bear, or she sent a bear to help him. My memory’s faint from the course of mythology.
Kid spent two days with Smokey the Bear learning how to prevent wild fires.
It was an angel. Made the child feel comfortable while he was missing.
I mean God used literal animals to carry out His miracles plenty in scripture, easily could have been an actual bear. Animals know God instinctively and listen to Him.

I'm by no means a wildlife expert, but i have seen wild animals help humans and come to humans for help when they need it. A black bear is non aggressive by every meaning of the word. It will not attack unless it feels threatened. It is entirely possible a bear was by this kid and didn't attack him. Now, did it pick him berries and bring them to him? No. But that's not what's being claimed.

Maybe a female bear lost her cub after birth and her maternal instincts tell her to take in any creature close to that shape. It happens with lionesses.
Maybe the kid was so cold and scared that it made him think about anything that reminds him of warmth.
