I review and demo the compact Korg KR mini as it blurs the line between a rhythm trainer and a drum machine, providing you with enough flexibility to program your own grooves, without being too difficult to use. Choose from 60 fun patterns and 120 fills covering rock, metal, pop, R&B, jazz, and more, or program your own using the set of 16 velocity-sensitive pads, and a chain function lets you arrange entire songs. As I mention the optional footswitches also let you start and stop your KR mini, as well as trigger fills. And since there's a speaker built into the battery-powered Korg KR mini, you can take it anywhere!

Thanks for running through all the presets, most helpful.
Brand new to me today. Zero drum machine experience, so this was really useful. Thanks!
Enjoy!
😊very good video explaining everything about the korg drum machine appreciate your help and effort for us all
Excellent review, I think I'm going to buy this and see what happens. Thanks!
I have had one for awhile and I absolutely loved the simplicity and even the realistic sounds through a PA system …. But without knowing the tempo until you hit the start button it’s basically useless to use on stage . That is such a shame because I love this little machine EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TEMPO UNTIL ITS PLAYING UNLESS YOU PLAY ALL YOUR SONGS AT THE SAME DARN TEMPO . On the edge of greatness but Korg just couldn’t make that jump. It would be nice also to have one foot switch rotate between fill #1 and 2 , but as it is you must chose one of the fills , A or B .
I haven't got much into the programming but I thought you could program a click in. All in all, yes it is very basic, sometimes to a fault, but a great practice tool.
The new Korg Stageman 80 is perfect. 80 watts of power. You can connect your guitar & mike.
Using a Vox foot pedal, you have stop/go, fill 1/fill2 and ending stop.
Gonna look into this
Great video, thanks!
I have a Boss JS10. I guess you could call it a drum machine of sorts.
Good job... thanks for your honest review...
Many regards from Chris Bunch of flowers music
Thanks for the review. Cthulhu Bless!
Yamaha RY10 Drum Machine has a Speaker in it.
Rock #2 is ‘walk this way!’
There is another with speakers: Stylophone Beat!
Bought one!
All the korg volcas have built in speakers and cheap also the pocket operators liven low fi 12 also has speaker built in
Thanks for an honest review.
Why would an outfit like Korg not include 3/4/6/8 three quarter preset rhythms? I bought one used and assumed that it would have waltz presets.
Thanks for the review. God Bless!
What kind of chord do you get to plug it into my amplifier
1/8 TO 1/4 Cord from Amazon // it must be stereo 1/8 to mono 1/4
I have just bought this machine to back myself playing acoustic jazz at retirement Villages. I just want a basic swing beat to help me not feel so alone! I'mconfused about the Chain line - can I ignore it & just play the patterns. I'm too old & not techno enough to programme songs, besides I know nothing about drumming. Any suggestions appreciated. About to purchase a start stop pedal. Thanks for a great video.
I screwed up my Korg KR Mini by plugging it to a 12V power cable. It ran for a while on the 12V, but later stopped working. It uses only the 9V power cable.
Doesn’t come with a power cord is the biggest con, your gonna have to learn to program anything you know. But no power cord? 😂 I’m about to pick me one up to practice my timing on my acoustic
Would it work with an electric guitar or is is too soft? Thx.
It's fairly loud ...I use it at bedroom level myself ...it does have a line out you could use as well.
casiotone(radio shack) made a drum machine with speaker(I have one)
How do you program a "fill" or "pattern change" to the second pedal. mine will only activate the "chain" so annoying
Just a quick question if anyone can answer, if you make custom drum patterns does the auto fill still work with them, or does it pnly work with pre installed patterns?
Is it loud enoigh to play electric guitar with
@@lomker24 maybe but at low volume
@@ChristopherMichaelMusic what can you hook this up to make it louder?
Yah exactly. Step up from practicing guitar with a metronome.
Can we write 5/8, 7/8 and 9/8 ritms on this machine?
Not to my knowledge....
Does it come with a mains adaptor?
No adapters were included with mine...if I remember correctly...it may have came with batteries tho...
Hi ! Thanks for the review !
I just got mine but it will not light up when I push the on/off button. I used the suplied batts, but will try with new ones. Also think there can be somthing with switch, it is no click when pushed.
Any comments on this?
Putting in a set of new batteries did the trick. The three ones supplied were depleted at delivery! Maybe too long on the shelf.
It sounds like a faulty switch...let us know when you find the problem for later diagnostics
Hi there, Is it possible to use the KR mimi to play a count in and be able to use the fill-in buttons for the drums at the same time? at the moment if I enable the count in, the fill-in buttons are just drum sounds.. many thanks....Bernie
Yes, my machine will do both. You may have a defective product.
@@ChristopherMichaelMusic ok thanks. I am wondering though if its the way its set-up and maybe i could make a change to enable this function. I find the machine very difficult to program!!
@@bernieandrews2796 it is very difficult to program. I just use it for what it is without programming and use a sample based program for detailed beats.
@@ChristopherMichaelMusic Ok, thanks for that. I have decided to do what you suggest and just use non programming mode..
Nice, but...
video and sound quality look like from the time, when Atari was big 😁
You gonna talk us to death or let us hear it work?
wish the snare was crisper- got that horrible "fat " sound - snares should be crisp !!
Yea...and with no EQ available, you're kinda stuck with it.
