A college music professor of mine once called Vivaldi a "third-rate composer". He was a musicologist, no less. When will people see that the greatest genius lies in simplicity well done?
There are several recordings au courant of this music. This one surpasses! No other reading that I have heard does the music such beautiful structural justice. Telemann called Vivaldi, "the delicacy of Italy": He had incomparable insight. Far, but far too many conductors have oversimplified Vivaldi. This one does not, and I will praise that exception, justly. The harmonies and phrase-building may look simplistic: Give those structures dynamic sophistication, however, and the music comes to life -- period.
Finezza e vigore assoluti. Solo nella musica barocca e in Vivaldi in particolare. NB anche versione diretta da Marcon ad Amsterdam. Domenico ex Brescia, Italia.
Like the first light of dawn, this music opens your eyes to new promises and to all the wonders of nature. Evocative of powers beyond observation, these pieces pull the strings of the heart, attract nostalgia and awaken the loves, the skinned lives and torpor of tormented watchmen 😆
36:43 Why do some singers feel that thay should alter the tunes of the arias? I think that this is disrespectful to the composer. If they decide to sing Vivaldi, they should sing exactly those notes that the maestro wrote.
That was the universally common and expected practice of the times. The idea of respecting the composer's work in it's original form did not come until much later...it's quite a modern idea. they are not changing the essential harmonies of the tune, but merely ''decorating''' it.
@@MHBales Sometimes the ornamentation is so extensive that it blurs the original composition. I enjoy several aspects of "period performance" but ornaments can be quite tasteless sometimes.
@@Trompicavalas I understand what you're saying. The only reason I mentioned it in the first place was because I am a huge fan of both composers and have listened to a LOT of their music, and I just thought this piece sounded more like signature Mozart than your typical Vivaldi.
Giovanni Ricca «Santa Caterina dAlessandria»
This masterpiece is underrated

Spanish violinist Lina Tur Bonet has said: Vivaldi is so good that you don't even realise how good he is.
Gran opera del gran Vivaldi. En la cumbre de la música de todos los tiempos.
This heroic music promotes spiritual uplift and awakening, and invigorates the human spirit
C’est sublime à écouter, j’écouterai pendant longtemps sans aucune lassitude.

You forgot the choir 😏 NDR Chor Hamburg
Excellent register and cast. Does anyone know if this recording is commercially available? If so, where?
No, it's not.
Was this also staged? It is magnificent. I have never seen a staged Vivaldi opera
Bravissimi tutti!!! Chi è l'oboista?
Is that a live recording of the concert in Hamburg?

@@filippoadamo7302hmmm...not sure I can agree with you there...
@@MHBales There is nothing to agree or disagree about. Mozart was born 15 years after Vivaldi's death
