In Eve's manga, "Kara no kioku" there's a direct reference in the title of Chapter 16 "How to eat/devour life", it explains better what this song can mean to the main character. Dramaturgy is based on sheakspeare play(i think) that is based on that whole life a play we're performing in. how we're conditioned to wear masks, perform roles, and in process maybe forget our true self and so on. try changing the english translation on how to eat life to the United States english, it has better translation and also lyrics to how you would actually sing it in japanese
