I think you will find when the throttle Is opened there is a reduction in pressure in the inlet manifold and there is a connecting pipe to the area above the diaphragm. This reduction in pressure sucks the diaphragm rubber and throttle slide up it I’d not ‘pushed up like a balloon’ as you suggest. The result is the same. Just wanted to clear this point up. Great video all the same. Thanks
My 06 SM keeps tooing and frooing when I am cruising. It is like I am nodding hello to everyone I meet))) I shall put my pipe wrenches and prybars to the carb straight away. Thank you.
I had the same drz400 and carb everything runs great except I have alot of backfiring when I'm decelerating does it more at low rpm then high u seem to be a carb genius any help much be great?
Problem with my drz 400s. I live in las Vegas Nevada, I bought the bike from someone that rode it Washington state. The bike idols fine has a slow start, as well as once its fully warmed up. On the highway it "sputters at a constant speed around 65 to 70mph or at a high rpm at a constant speed". Also the needle does not have any adjustment notches. Any solutions without buying parts?
Awesome video, and I hope you're still available for questions... You said something an air pod? Are you referring to a foam air filter? Also, when replacing jets how much should I tighten them? I was simply seating them until they felt snug..
I replaced my petcock to non vacuum one. The next morning I believe I picked something up and clogged the carb. Trying to the start the bike and it wont turn over.. after taking out the carb I noticed, fuel in the airbox.. which part do you believe could be clogged to cause fuel to back into the air box. Thanks
Aidan Vorbeck Had SM 11.5 years now. 41mm and 39mm carbs did not work properly and bike was slower. Happy with the BSR 36 now. Rest of ownership has been a breeze.
Aidan Vorbeck 74,000 km now. I tried 2nd hand Honda CRF carbs. I jetted them smaller and smaller down to 140 but were still rich so just gave up and sold carbs. OEM CARBS might have a better solution.
Aidan Vorbeck Yes. Has had 1 new sparkplug at 40,000 km. Have not even changed or topped up radiator water. Have adjusted valves 2 times. It just still keeps on going!
Thanks for the vid, very instructive! What is the purpose of the big fat vacuum tube that's too the right of the choke (and appears to be connected to nothing and open - as it is on my carb) ?
This video is 8 years old so I don't figure Ill get a response but Ill try anyway. My bike is doing a weird thing when it idles. When the engine is still kinda cool it idles and revs normally but when its a bit warmer when i rev it it'll idle higher than normal. I can "nudge" the clutch to put a bit of friction on the engine and then release it again and it'll idle low again but once I rev it its back up to a high idle. It wasn't doing this before i cleaned the carb. Its a 2011 DRZ400s fully stock. And i did set the fuel mixture screw back to how Suzuki set it after I cleaned the carb.

Great video, thank you. This is exactly the information I was looking for.
Brilliant video - thanks for taking the time.
Excellent informative video. You know your stuff! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Very well done thank you sir
very good video, thanks!
thank you for sharing saludos desde Panama
really good video
great video, i ll have to adjust the needle .. but i can see here i dont need to remove carb off bike ,,yeyy...
My drz accelerate only 3000-4000 rpm and Max speed 80-90 klm/ h .and the half throttle to the top is dead, why?

JD jetting jet kit and follow the instructions in the box for your particular situation.
The hose to the right of the choke on bsr 36? should I put filter material over or am I missing the connection? thanks very much.
Hi. Do you know about the size of diaphram?
I dont have grooves on needle.
Has Mikuni discontinued the BSR series carbs?
where I can get the carburetor kit for this model?

Im assuming this carb has had a jet kit installed, with the adjustable needle and the fuel screw? I don't believe those are standard

Im having this problem. Any suggestions?
I was hoping to see how you put the need back into the diaphragm but ended without doing so 🤦♂️
A very nice vid. Thanks. After 9.5 years of 400sm ownership l am going to install a 41FCR on the poor thing. Any comment?

What country are you in?

I believe you are talking about the overflow outlet.

the heck with this, i'm going with the fuel injection instead. maybe a wr250r
megalo Dan Carb is much easier to work on and service
definately easier to work on,but you will need to do it often
lol fuel injected has his own set of problems ,guess u know by now ,more costly fix
Sounds like someone needs to buy more tools other than what came with the bike
My drz will only start/run with the choke all the way out..could this be clug card
Carb"
Clogged pilot jet
Super gooder video.
Thank you SO much! This is exactly what I was looking for.
