The reload animation not having anything emerge from the vehicle leaves me imagining that the launcher fires two missiles, gets performance anxiety, and then a hatch opens so the crew can shout encouragement to get it back in the action.
Those deployed hammerheads can go wrong in the real world, especially when you jar them by driving too fast or having the vehicle at a bad angle. Our turret mechanics stayed busy. Reloading takes quite a bit longer, too. It would be nice to at least see the spent tubes being tossed off the vehicle. These can actually "float" and move along slowly in water, but it's flaky as hell. Bad on ice.
@@chetpower772 Why? Because it doesn't have a stabilizer? Because its 57mm accuracy is awful? Or because you never played it? There are way more annoying tanks like BMPs or Obj 906 for example.
This is one of the Best ATGM Vehicles even though it has a turret flaw, you only need to park it behind a rock,(preferrably looking at either a key road or a cap point), use the depression it has (as well as thermals) and you will have a fun time till all your 10 rockets are gone
With the last update it got so much better because now you can drive in gear 1 with up to 16 km/h without the turret folding itself !!! Its so much better now and it feels way mire effective
Actually, if you are driving the M901 at full speed you can drastically decrease the targeting time if you break turn in such a way that you rotate the hull 180°-s so that its back faces the enemy. Hence, you can eliminate the turret rotation time. You can also decrease the effective reload time if the vehicle hull faces the target. It is a good tactic when you reach your desired shooting position and you see a good target to the first break turn to make face the vehicle's back the target and when you spent all the missiles in the launcher, rotate the hull to face the next target while reloading. I think the greatest disadvantages of this vehicle comes from Gaijin's implementation rather than accurately modelled IRL flaws. For example, this is nonsense that the M901 folds its turret automatically after some speed. The player should be able to manually fold or unfold the turret in the same way as the radar dish can be folded on certain radar SPAAG. Moreover, its offroad mobility and hill-climbing performance is a joke despite the fact that it almost has 20 hp/ton specific power. Other vehicles have far superior offroad mobility and hill-climbing performance despite the fact that they have 15 hp/ton equal or less specific power (for example the M48A1). One might dismiss it because of the inadequate transmission gearing but I would refute this argument because it is also awful at hill climbing with its backward gear which has a maximum speed of -9 km/h. So its mobility needs a huge revision. Another awful implementation by Gaijin is if the missiles got hit and explode in the launcher then the whole vehicle dies. It also dies if a HEATFS hits the turret, but don't explode the missiles. Its only rightful arch-nemesis is a large-caliber HE round. Otherwise, I think this vehicle is better than the other ATGM based tank-destroyers for its BR. It can even trump the Khrizantema-S, because of the Khrizantema-S's pitiful gun depression and because the ground radar is overrated for ATGM vehicles (you can't hit anything that is behind even the softest of covers even if you know their direction, and thermal imaging is more than enough to spot everything that you can actually hit) (ground radar would be amazing on a vehicle that can shoot APFSDS). Its only real disadvantage is compared to other ATGM tank destroyers is its low ammunition carrying capacity and vulnerability to the infrared jammer (though it will not face IR jammer in RB).
The title also applies to any SPAA vehicle. Haters gonna hate, but playing SPAA is still the most chill and one of the most rewarding ways to play this game. They print SL at high tiers like nothing else and the only effort you need to take is to farm these vehicles.
When spaded, it's good to practice quick 180 degree drifts, so you can become firing-ready faster by having the rear towards the enemy. You can shoot from C to A on Big Poland domination, on El Alamein you can sit by a tall dune and defend your team, etc. Wonderful vehicle.
Quite a few of those shots would have been under the 65m minimum arming range and shooting tempermental wire guided TOW missiles thru bushes or over wires, water, or just about anything is not advised. This reality would make the M901 pretty much useless in a fast paced shooter video game.
The IT-1 is also a vechile with similiar advatance, but it can also be used to push caps and flank while being effective. The fact that the scope comes from the missile just makes it effective at cover. The missile speed and tracking, and the lack of thermal are disadvatanges tho.
Some REAL LIFE info about wire-guided missiles here: IF you think the TOW II makes you a sitting duck in an M901, pitty the poor Dragon (now retired in favor of the Javelin) gunner from the Cold War Era US Infantry. The Dragon Gunner had to have balls of solid steel because his firing range was 75m (minimum) to 1,000m (max effective for a gen 1) and that missile only flew at 200m/sec. This meant that he had to sit behind his sight (tracking the target because the sight is a SACLOS targeting system) until the missile hit the target. The launcher had a very distinct backblast and it took 5 SECONDS to reach the maximum range. This means the gunner had to sit still for up to 5 seconds AFTER giving away his position by firing a missile. The TOW II gave you a much longer range BUT, once again you had to SIT STILL while controlling the missile because any movement would confuse the CLU (the Command, Launch Unit, basically the computer which control's the missile from the SACLOS sight). Older TOWs were slow too (about 200m/sec) while the newer ones could reach 360m/sec when I served (the early '90s). The issue was that Uncle Sam had LOTS of the older missiles and would send them out with newer ones. While 200m/sec doesn't seem bad, that's 20 seconds to the older missile's maximum range of just under 4K meters and around 12 seconds for the newer missile to reach the same distance. A modern Main Battle Tank can make target acquisition and fire in between 3 and 8 seconds with its digital fire control. IF the tank doesn't see you and you're on the flank, its a turkey shoot (because the tank cannot turn its turret and target you in the time allotted). IF you're in the tank's firing arc, you're going to get bloodied pretty quickly. Remember that the typical wire-guided missile is spooling out a wire the same size as fishing line behind it (to receive commands from the CLU) and any enemy fire may cut that wire and sever your control of the missile's flight. For Reference: SACLOS = Semi-Automatic, Command Line-of-Sight: You put a set of crosshairs on a target and the missile will AUTOMATICALLY fly to that target which you have been aiming at. A Command-Launch Unit (CLU) does all the directing of the missile. MCLOS = Manual Command Line-of-Sight: The predecessor to SACLOS missiles. The CLU would "gather" the missile to a sighting unit so the gunner could see it with a flare located in the missile's tail. The gunner would then "fly" the missile to the target like a radio-controlled airplane. MCLOS missiles were even SLOWER than SACLOS missiles so the gunner could make corrections based on what he was seeing the missile doing in his sight (80m/sec up to 120m/sec). A lot of Arab missile gunners learned just how fatal tanking on an MBT "head-on" could be during the various Arab-Israeli Wars (the first time these weapons were deployed in anger in any volume). MCLOS weapons are still showing up occasionally today (several were used in Syria in the late 2000s) but the last MAJOR appearance in a conflict by MCLOS missiles was Argentina's use of German-made Cobras and Mambas during the 1982 Falklands War. Fire and Forget= The newer US Javelin and Predator SRAW ATGMs are fire and forget. You have to aim at the target for a few seconds to get a "missile lock" where the CLU calculates a flight path and uploads a "picture" of the target to the missile proper. Once it is fired, the missile is self-guiding and the operator can move or select a new target.
The real vehicle was designed to defend against the Soviet battle doctrine of all Soviet vehicles racing across an open plane while firing their guns to their front, in order to overwhelm their enemy. I learned this as a US Army crewman on an m901 in 1983 Baumholder Germany. I'm sorry the system doesn't work so well in your little video game. We were told that our life span was about 12 seconds after contact with the enemy. The riflemen would last about 3.
its advantages are comparable to that of the British Swingfire in how the launcher is raised. The Swingfire's scope is on a stalk meaning you can hide behind all sorts of cover and be able to fire; and as much as the launcher itself isnt raised, it does point upwards meaning its able to fire *over* the cover you are behind. The downside to that though is it is useless at short distances as the missiles take 150-200m to come back down and in line with where the scope is pointing. Fun vehicle to play when you get a good map for it though
A patch after this video was made fixes one complaint. If you Cruise Control in 1st gear, i.e. Battle Speed, the launcher will stay up, looking where you want and, if memory serves, even fire while on the move but I wouldn't recommend that as a routine thing to do since you need to guide the TOW.
Correction it actually helps your team a lot by helping defend a point or to help push the point in a suport role to kill off flankers or heavily armored tanks. Thus your team wont hate you but your enemy team will since you are able to send them to the hanger with out then being able to fire a shot.
making it so a quarter of the enemy team are out of the game 2 minutes in is helping to win, and you can definitely cap if you know there are no enemies there if you can get in a position on cap to shoot before more will arrive
