    5:55 If you liked this feeling like a culmination of multiple songs before it, just you wait until Non-Stop you'll love it!

      Yeah, Hamilton makes excellent use of repeating motifs, to the point where there's an ongoing video series about it that might be longer than the show itself by this point.

      @@Pablo360able Yeah. Although I'm curious what video series you're talking about. Is it Howard Ho's I love that one! If not then I'd like to know that too because I love thinking about this stuff

      @Alex Knauth Yeah it's Howard's.

    You said that this seems like a Aron Burr, Sir. Just so you know, every song it's like a kind of reprise. It's like every character has his kind of song, and it's like repetitive all the time, but not in a bad way, it's like everytime you have traces of the other songs. You'll see, this will happen in a lot of songs. You'll love it for sure.

      These are called Leitmotifs and Lin is an absolute master at using them to the best effect. If you're interested in some music theory behind why Hamilton is so great at eliciting certain emotions, I suggest checking out Howard Ho's series on Hamilton. It's amazing.

    Just as Hamilton said “here he comes” my dog walked in from outside and when burr went “GEORGE WASHINGTON” he walked into me room so apparently my dog is Washington now

    this song is soo great!! and szin's animatic for this one is really good!! i love the animatics a lot they just really help to visualize whats happening and all. and they also just have really awesome visuals that add to the music imo (really nice for people who can't watch the musical)
    i love the songs that bring in themes from previous songs. those are the best! did you also catch the woah woah woahs in the bg also from my shot i believe?

      The "whoas" appear in instrumental form in so many songs in the musical (tiny fragments appear in Your Obedient Servant, and entire sections appear before the duel in TWWWE). I like to think of it as the Ambition motif.

    I'm going to make a comment analyzing the little snippets that come up multiple times in this or previous or future songs. There's a lot going on here!
    0:14 That little flourish at the beginning is like the "Doorsqueak" sound from the beginning of the very first song
    0:49, 0:56, 1:02, 1:05, 5:17 "Rise up" from My Shot
    1:08, 5:16 "Here comes the general" first time here, comes back later
    1:08 The pattern in the accompaniment here is really interesting. The rhythm has a "Heartbeat" sound within it, and the top notes it jumps up to form a "James Bond" type line. There's a video by Howard Ho analyzing this and how its used to represent different types of conflict coming together, but you probably shouldn't watch that until you're done with the entire musical because it covers how this pattern changes to reflect different conflicts throughout the whole thing.
    1:32, 2:24 The "Heartbeat" pattern becomes clearer here, easier to isolate. I love the feeling this gives with them having reason to be afraid of real danger, but finding the courage to fight anyway.
    2:09 The "James Bond" type line becomes clearer here, with the repeated notes in the strings.
    3:01 The accompaniment pattern here is also interesting. It reminds me of the place in My Shot when Hamilton was saying "I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory" and "this is not a moment it's the movement." It's not exact but it's a similar pattern of "bah-da" going up.
    3:12 You noticed this pattern feeling like "Aaron Burr, Sir." I love how this style can make the dialog feel so natural as part of the music.
    4:15, 5:04 The line "Woah woah woah-o-oh" from My Shot comes back here. I think Howard Ho has a video analyzing this too, and how it relates to how the role of ambition changes throughout the musical or something, anyway it was my favorite part of My Shot and I love it and how it ties the feelings here to that song.
    4:24 "Dying is easy young man, living is harder" I love this line and I'm so glad you took note of it. There's a similar Washington line later that I also love.
    4:39 "I'm not throwing away my shot" from My Shot of course.

      If you're interested, after watching the entire musical, this is the Howard Ho video I was referring to, analyzing the "Heartbeat" and "James Bond" patterns in this song and how they change all the way through to the end of the musical:

      Edit: Oh and I also found the other Howard Ho video about the "Woah woah woah-o-oh" thing and the role of ambition changing:

    The odd background sounds as Washington begins his part make a lot more sense when you see the actors around him.
    They're miming the loading and firing muskets, as well as being fired AT because most of them drop when the weird sounds do.

    I think that this song did an okay job at showing how in real life, Aaron Burr had a problem of rubbing people the wrong way.
    because apparently he did not make a good first impression on George Washington whether he intended to or not. I mean I'm sure he intended to make a good first impression but in the end I don't think he really rubbed Washington the right way.

    • @chellesama8256
      @chellesama8256 4 місяці тому +1

      Burr's mistake was in saying he admired that Washington was fighting from a distance; that was very much NOT how Washington wanted to fight.
      (He wasn't a great general, anyway, but an excellent uniter of people and in finding the people with the expertise he needed to rise to any occasion.)

    I remember there was a thing on which Hogwarts house each Hamilton character would get sorted into. They sorted Washington into Griffindor. But to me, Washington is Alpha Hufflepuff. His first line was "We are outgunned! outmanned! outnumbered outplanned!" He points out the problems outright and that he needs help. He is so honest that he is brave. Or rather it takes bravery to be that honest.

    So this was far behind on my list of favorite songs from Hamilton (not that this is bad, but others where better) but the animation is something that adfds so much that it goes up to God Tier, ;)

    That is going to take too long time to finish this series. Could you please make at least 3 vids per week dedicated to Hamilton? Cuz i find your comments and reactions very clever and sustainable:)
