I love this kind of content; the more I can compare and contrast, and pick up individual techniques of others, the more prepared generally I can be - Excellent talk -
This was awesome. Would like to see what the other Vortex Crew packs for 2-3 days, 3-5 days in different types of hunts, like deer, hog, turkey, bear, rams, ect... Most videos online show the pack and all the items on a table, but this was nice to see everything loaded. Can't wait for another "10min" Talk on this subject.
One of the best gear upgrades I have made is compressible cotton towel towellets, they are my toilet paper, fire starter, pre-filter, bandana, and first aid guaze all in one and they significantly reduce bulk and weight and are very versatile. I have been using them for 4 years backpacking, hiking fishing and hunting.
What havalon knife was that? And id like to see an episode on a 1 rifle setup. As in one rifle to take whitetail up to maybe elk or moose, recomendations on rifle, caliber and optic.
Hey Michael! The knife was a Havalon Piranta. That would be a cool topic to dive into - we'll see what we can do! Thanks for being a part of Vortex Nation! 😀
I'm curious as to how Paul gets his stove fuel when he gets where he's going, since you can't bring it on a plane. When I go backpacking in Colorado, I just swing by REI on my way to the trailhead. But that's not an option when you're in Alaska or anywhere else that's super remote.
How do you guys feel about skre gear? Hoping to get my first deer this upcoming season and want to get some quality yet affordable gear during the off-season
Jack O’Connor said the most important piece of hunting gear is your boots as a person can put up with being wet or cold but you will not leave camp with a lot of blisters on your feet. Breakfast 2 oatmeals Folgers instant coffee 2 per day Lunch 1 tuna foil pack and one candy per day. Dinner 1 Mountain House and yes I do like them but I need to try some different brands. Skip the bipod, I carry a piece of Velcro to put my Black Diamond walking sticks together, If I’m laying down I just lay gun across pack. My cook set is a little lighter all I use is titanium pot and spork. I use Smart Water bottle and swayer squeeze full size. Biggest tip start looking now study backpacking forms for light weight gear, then look at eBay to buy some great deals if you are not in a hurry. I have one set of Smartwool underwear just for sleeping saved me in Alaska in 9 days of rain to sleep in dry clothes at night.
Lots of great helpful and useful ideas. I institute many of the same or similar ideas and gear. I couldn't agree more, sick and tired of Mountain House and I love Airalpineaire!! I always look for multiple use items when extended hiking and hunting. Do away with your ball cap and get a light weight, thin, full brim hat that you can just stuff in your bag. Especially if you're going to be above tree line and potentially having full sun exposure. Additionally it can be used as a pre filter on a water filter. Just wrap it around the filter and it'll filter out any large chunks or tadpoles. LOL Second, throw away that ramen, it's trash. Pre-portion NON instant oatmeal in ziplock baggies. I like to add raisins and craisins in the ziplock bags as well. Lastly, my grandpa was born in Canada my dad was born in Minnesota. There is no way in hell I'm only taking 10 rounds of ammo with me, that must be the Canadian side of you coming out. 😜 Being born and raised in Texas, I guess I'm spoiled or whatever you want to call it. But I'm doubling or even tripling that amount of ammo, if not more. Heaven forbid you knock your scope and have to re-sight it in while you're out in the wilderness. Wolf's, bears, who knows what else you might need it for. To many variables for me to only be carrying 10 rounds .... LOVE the bleach comment. To many people who carry fancy water filtration systems think that is their cure all for water. ALWAYS have backup ways to clean your water. That's the quickest way to ruin and/end a trip, run out of clean water.
Hey Jacob! There's no plans for a new rangefinder at this time, but our NPD team is always working on new products. What would you like to see in a new rangefinder in the future?
Who cares. I find people get far too hung up on the upfront cost of this stuff, and often over look the long term value of the gear that is used for a hobby and many times once in a lifetime hunts... which even if you buy something for a once in a lifetime hunt, you can often use that gear for other hunts and purposes.

Great and informative! What caliber rifle is Paul taking with him?
This one is a 6.5 Creed. Paul got it right before the 6.5 PRC came out, which he says he may have preferred.
@@VortexNation I agree the 6.5 creed is a really good round but a at times needs a little bit more horsepower in some cases!

Love it. I’d love to hear recommendations on how to shave costs, and ounces? $850 on a tent is rough. But less then 2lbs sounds nice too…
Instead of Para cored Try samson zing it. It is 2.2mm diameter dynema cord. Tensile Strength: 650 lbs and has now noticeable stretch.
I had an allergic reaction to some sausage in mtn house. I was a half day hike from any help. Always test meals before you leave.
Wow! Sounds scary. Great tip on testing out meals before you leave 👍
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting to see! Can y’all do one of these with lightweight Dave?
I was about to ask the same thing
They did a similar sit down with Dave. I imagine it's about the same just replace everything with carbon fiber and dyneema.
Episode 122 is lightweight rifles, episode 36 is ultralight hunting with Dave Hamilton
Great video! Would love more videos like this
👀 is that a Kifaru sticker on a Kuiu bottle? 😂 Aaron’s going to love that. 😂 good vid 💪🏼
lol, you beat me to it. Amazing
😂😂😂
Any chance that Paul could publish a load out list? That would be most helpful to us newbies!
That is a great idea, Peter! We'll see what we can do.
Check this out Peter! Hope it helps!

I watched for the crocs in the thumbnail.
Do they ever come up?
How do you guys feel about skre gear? Hoping to get my first deer this upcoming season and want to get some quality yet affordable gear during the off-season
We don't personally have any experience with Skre Gear but we've heard great things 👍

What's the total cost of your complete system? Just curious.
Start adding up what you see in the video...
That answer is NSFW…

So have we completely ditched paper charts/maps?
That is an extremely long 10 minutes 😂
When is that new range finder going to come out? I’m in the market for one.
Hey Jacob! There's no plans for a new rangefinder at this time, but our NPD team is always working on new products. What would you like to see in a new rangefinder in the future?

I wonder the cost of all that gear?`
We'd guess a lot...
