Hi everyone. I hope you enjoyed this video. I will be watching the comments for the next couple of hours, so if you have any questions please ask them and I will try my best to help.
Thank You for this video Gary! Had been hearing a lot about this but was still confused. Thanks for explaining so simply. Would love a detailed article/video too..
Gary, since Blockchain & Cryptocurrency tech. is so great, why do you think it isn't flourishing as quickly as it should and why companies/institutions are hesitant over employing it ?
Lots of reasons, one is loss of control, another is how do you define the value of a cyrptocurrency in the real world? How much should a liter of milk cost in Bitcoin? Then there is the issue of stability and much more.
you clearly have much more technical knowledge than just android related things, have you ever considered having your own UA-cam channel doing a little bit more of things like this?
Thanks for the compliment. Although on paper the idea of my own channel sounds like a good idea, there is no way I could finance it, plus I really love working for Android Authority.
Gary Sims it's less about cost than it is about time I'd imagine, it doesn't cost much to sit infront of a camera and express your technical know how in a way that everyone can understand. And who said you had to stop working for AA aha 😅 I like these kinda videos though so keep them up if you can
Hey gary thanks for the video.. I was searching about block chaining but couldn’t find a easier explanation of it , u brought me a sigh of relief . Keep doing good stuff like this . 👍🏼
One thing I don't understand with hashes: If the hash is just the product of a function and the input (whatever that is, a file, a sentence, a word, etc) and the function is known (like SHA256, MD5, etc), why can you not reverse the function and feed it with the hash to get the input? Like reversing the function f(x) = x^2 to the root of x?
That is a good question. You can't because if you start with a 1GB file then how can you re-create that from a 256 byte string? It is a one way function. Having said that when the data is small, like a password or something then it is possible to create a database of known hashes and store the reverse. But that only works with small chunks of data like passwords.
Gary Sims Ok, that makes sense that you can't recreate a huge file from 64 hex characters. But how can there be no collisions? I mean, an SHA256 is always 64 characters long with one of 16 possible characters at each position (0-9 and A-F) which should give you 64 to the power of 16 possible combinations, right? But if you run every possible SHA256 (64^16 possibilities) hash through the SHA256 function again, that should also give you a unique SHA256 hash, right? But wouldn't that already exhaust all 64^16 possible combinations? How come running any file through the function won't also give you one of these hashes, if the hashes themselves already must exhaust all 64^16 combinations when re-hashed? 😥
Such a good video! I was one of the early adopters of bitcoin back when the exchange rate was 1:1 for USD and I have never fully understood the blockchain until now. Amazing explanation, Gary!
Easiest way to start mining is to use a cloud mining service like hashflare.io. However I can't vouch for the quality of that particular service or if it is legit.
Hi Gary! Your article "What is a blockchain?" has some paragraphs doubled. Besides that, your article was as of now for me the simplest and shortest algortihmic and mathematical explantion that I found. Thank you! But one question remained for me: what is "mining"?? The huge computational effort to generate the leading 17 Zero's for the hash ?? Thanks for answering in advance. Winfried
Great job. But still not understanding how to think of each unit of data (the blocks). Using your example of the land registry: would each piece of land be represented by a chain, and the blocks in the chain would describe each time it had changed hands in the past? I understand there's a lot of different applications of the technology, but if I could understand one possible use, hopefully I could expand on that. :)
I have what I hope is not a ridiculous question. Would it be possible to broadcast a "blind" key, one that is meant to unlock some record or file or possibly an array of items from the broadcaster of the key without that key then being susceptible to association with items the original broadcaster of the key had not intended? I'm thinking here of a system that could validate the authenticity of public records, photographs, video, etc. The reason I bring this up is that it looks like we'll be facing a truth crisis at some point where it will be possible to so convincingly generate, say, video of a politician saying something they really did not say that even people who know them could be duped by the fake video. Doctored photos are pretty well at this point now and making the same reliable in audio isn't far off. With trust in the media already faltering, if this gets anywhere close to believable in video and we don't have a way to verify content from a broadcaster, it's hard to see how we prevent the fracturing of society getting out of hand due to there being truly no reason to believe any one account of events over another one.
Hello Gary, please I am looking forward for the Kirin 970 explained or review. Because Huawei claimed it is a lot faster than competition. Will it be faster than Apple's A11 Bionic chip? It think it should, with 8 core CPU and 12 core GPU . Am not sure about the specs so am looking forward to see your video about it.
No, it won't be faster than the A11. The 8 cores are the same 8 cores as the Kirin 960. The big thing is the NPU, but we will need to wait to see what the Mate 10 can do with it.
why bitcoins are becoming computing intensive everyday??I mean earlier a weak CPU could generate many hashes but now even a high end computing device can't generate enough BTCs and who controls the value of BTCs??I know my questions are very basic but I am curious about it
This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix my self a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm really a shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I can introduce my self. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she has a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I want the best for her and I harbor no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seems happy with her boyfriend, so I did not bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it, I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already when I first saw her. Besides, I am quiet happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wants to live some other life without me in it, so I said, okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness. My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally can't take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get my self a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video. She said, you know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer. So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.
So you went to make a sandwich half way through, so at the 5 minute mark, and there was two minutes left when you found the phone in the drawer, so all that other stuff happened to you in just 3 minutes. Wow, you have a crazy life.
Hi everyone. I hope you enjoyed this video. I will be watching the comments for the next couple of hours, so if you have any questions please ask them and I will try my best to help.
Gary Sims great job! A great summary on block chain.
Thank You for this video Gary!
Had been hearing a lot about this but was still confused.

Is xiaomi a1 good buy
Lol I was googling blockchain yesterday and couldn't find an easy explanation, and here we have this video, thank you Gary, you're the man :)
Then you're looking wrong lol

Awesome explaination...was waiting for it for so long
Please keep doing videos like this!
Great video and very relevant. Thank you for sharing. Cheers from India
Amazing! You are great at explaining complicated subjects. Thank you so much!
Great explanation Gary.
Hey gary thanks for the video.. I was searching about block chaining but couldn’t find a easier explanation of it , u brought me a sigh of relief . Keep doing good stuff like this . 👍🏼
Gary can you explain why my girlfriend is mad at me? Seems like you could explain anything.
Gary's videos are the best
Thanks, you are too kind.
Wow very nice Video Gary! You explain things very good!!
What can be better than this!
Back to Back videos from our good old man!
I am glad you like my video, but less of the "old" please !!! :-)
We want more videos like this, when Gerry explains complex stuff.
I literally wrote a small paper for a class about this I wish this has been uploaded 3 days earlier 😧😧
This is nice and informative video. Thanks Gary!

A concise and easily understood explaination, Gary. Many thanks!
Such a good video! I was one of the early adopters of bitcoin back when the exchange rate was 1:1 for USD and I have never fully understood the blockchain until now. Amazing explanation, Gary!
Android Authority is the title of this channel.
Correct, very observant of you.
Its easy for common man to understand. Thanks.
Great video!!
I would have liked for you to have mentioned the enormous environmental impact of blockchain, but otherwise, good video.
These words inspire me to do good things
Thanks Gary, great expanation now I understand how blockchain works.
Great video!
Would also recommend watching Coldfusion's video about blockchain
Thank Gary, a am bad in English but I watched you and understand so many)
Great video thank for sharing
*GARY!!!*
Good morning Professor!!!
MARK!!!
👋
Thank you as always!
Gary can u tell us how be a part of block chain? I mean how to do bitcoin mining or cryptomining?
Easiest way to start mining is to use a cloud mining service like hashflare.io. However I can't vouch for the quality of that particular service or if it is legit.
Not legit? Lol 😁
Explain npu on the kirin 970 please
How do cryptocurrencies without a blockchain work?
Example?
Gary Sims I read something about IOTA.
IOTA still uses a P2P ledger with hashes, but it isn't a chain, more of a mesh where each transactions links to more than one place.
Hi Gary!
Your article "What is a blockchain?" has some paragraphs doubled.
Besides that, your article was as of now for me the simplest and shortest algortihmic and mathematical explantion that I found.

The huge computational effort to generate the leading 17 Zero's for the hash ??
Thanks for answering in advance.
Winfried
GARY! Did you invest in Bitcoin?
What the hash was that?
Gary, if you could publish a video explaining how Bitcoin currency and profits work. Will be really helpful
Maybe you could make a copy of the key and store it in a totally different location.
Gary is late to the show bit still a good explainer.
What is this have to do with Android?
Hey Gary, i have a question.... Y cores are even in number now a days? Why not odd bfore DynamIQ technology..?
No reason as far as I know, they could have been odd before. I remember that NVIDIA had a 4+1 chip at some point (if my memory serves me right).
Gary Sims ya ri8.. even AMD also worked for a tri-cluster proc. Bt is it due to 0's n 1's for binary systems ?
What is mining I'm so confused
The process of finding those special hashes.
Gary Sims what is all Im hearing about using solar power? So that the energy cost is less than that of the power used mining?
Exactly what you describe.
Gary Sims what makes mining of these hashes so valuable?
Richard Richard you gain Bitcoin...which is money
In a currency example, would each "coin" have its chain, which documents all the transactions through which it got to its current owner?
Kinda like a link list I guess ..
P.S correct me if I am wrong
It is indeed like a linked list, but with the added feature that you can't change a block without invalidating the whole list.
If you lose your key, and thus lose your block chain assets, who is the owner of those assets? Are they just void as if they never existed?
No one owns the lost assets, they just exist on the blockchain and no one can use them.
A blockchain is just a block.....chain
Can i get a android authority shirt? Looks cooool

How does one loose a private key?
Hard disk failure, deletion, your phone gets stolen, whatever.
Free hugs from Gary @6:06 :D
LOL

Garry is back yayyyyyyy
Yay Gary... 🕺
Now go out there and make your IT millions children.
Oo thanks I understood
I been lost in the jungle for 2 month, can anyone explain what blockchain it is?
Gary you the man!
is Bitcoin mining useful for poor people now and in the futur? what's the good/best configuration which should be used to mine?
why bitcoins are becoming computing intensive everyday??I mean earlier a weak CPU could generate many hashes but now even a high end computing device can't generate enough BTCs
and who controls the value of BTCs??I know my questions are very basic but I am curious about it
No one controls the value of BTCs, it is just a perceived value, like any other currency.
Watching this video made me feel like my brain got raped. I feel anxious and scared.
Awesome video gary
Bitcoin, the currency that teaches Libertarians why we have regulation...
Ok gary, How do you read minds?
👍
