You can actually flee a map encounter like that campside by moving all of your pawns to the maps edge, you dont need to destroy all hostile turrets/enemies. However that way you would have left the horses behind.
By clicking on the turrets you can see the max range, a assult or sniper rifle can outrange them. After a turret losses power you can also quickly "claim" them, making turrets no longer hostile.

Yeah there's a reason why you shove the corpse of your favorite colonist into a freezer ASAP.
I really like the design of the barn. Haven't done that before myself. Thank God pawns can't smell animals.
Might be wise to buod a wall around the rice field outside the colony walls. Maybe switch to corn maybe. Corn takes the longest to grow but gives the most yield. Rice grows fast but takes a lot of labor. It's why mid-game colonies should switch to corn over rice.
However, rice should always be grown in hydroponics. The labor and yield is just good enough to make rice the best choice.
You don't need to sterile tile your freezer. Only the kitchen matters. Wood hay or stone will do fine, but I usually go with concrete.
Pawns will undraft themselves after a while, so keep their moods high before raiding. Your pawns arrived starving, low mood and zero recreation. That's a bad combo. Might wanna carry some tea or beer on caravans just in case.
