As a person who played through all the Pokemon games sans gen 4, I can't find myself hating Black or White. After finally having a chance to play them nearly 3 years after their release, and after having played gen 6 prior, I found myself immersed in the story, location, and design choices. Honestly, I couldn't find anything worth hating. I loved the characters, I loved the world, and although replay value is a bit on the non-existent side due to the shutdown of gen 5 services, it was still an adventure worth having.
For those of you who hate gen 5, it's probably something stupid like "oh trubbish is a garbage pokemon ewwwww" Then really look at gen 1. They had unoriginal ideas to the MAX. If they were made today we would hate them. For example, Muk. Muk is Muck without the c.

The games we have now (Before generation six) Such as 4 and 5, will be so old in years to come. Like red and blue is now. We will be telling later generations about how we had to use 2D sprites! Its just crazy to think about.
Now we miss the 2d sprites 😔
I feel like Pokemon Black and White is the skyward sword of the Pokemon series. The only difference is that I like Pokemon Black and White

mywlan2 ok so maybe a better word is new. this is the first pokemon game that was full 3d. x and y might not be revolutionary but it is really just showing what the new pokemon can do and where the sieres is going

Generation 5 is my favorite Generation out of all of them because it actually introduced really detailed Pokemon and finally Game Freak trying out new things.
I like gen 4 caus it still had a great story line, arceus, celebi, shaman love it soo much
Sackman Celebi is Gen II, Arceus is unobtainable now and Shaman isn't a Pokemon.

The best experience I had with the older Pokemon games on the DS was SS/HG. They were just so polished (as you said, Jimmy) and enjoyable, not to mention nostalgic and packed full of content. Also, Pokemon walk behind you? Make it happen again Nintendo. The next Pokemon 3DS game... make it happen!
The reason this game is so different is because it was made by the MOTHER 3 team.
Reading these comments I realize that the idea of gen five being the most hated and everyone saying it was bad back then, is absolute bullshit.

Pokemon Black is my favorite pokemon game ever! it has my favorite metagame and the complains about the pokemon designs are bullshit. I could go hours praising it.
However it is true that the post game isn't very good, but my biggest complain about the game has to be the difficulty. This must be the easiest pokemon game i have ever played, especially because of the region design. When you are about to challenge the electric gym, the game throws a desert at you, full of ground types. When you are about to challenge the flying gym, the game throws you an electric cave. And before the ground gym you could get a bunch of ice types.
That's not even mentioning the last gym leader only had three pokemon, three!
But yeah, besides that, its a near-perfect game for me and even one of my favorite games of all time
Holy crap. How come I didn't noticed that gym type advantage patterns? But then again, most Pokémon games are a bit easier and sometimes dumb down certain features. In the first game, you need to travel back and forth to get a bike, travel back to the first gym location just to revive your fossil Pokémon, played a lot of casino slots just to buy a Pokémon, etc... But I still believe B/W is a great improving core game in the Pokémon universe.

Audino is my favorite pokemon just because it allows me to train up all the other pokemon i have.
I remember when I played generation 5 In 2011. I really enjoyed this generation. The story in this game was pretty good. I got white so I remember catching zekrom. I am looking forward to generation 7

Yeah, I really did like how the story basically deconstructed everything you knew about Pokemon. Bianca brought up the issue of 10-year-olds going on an adventure alone, Cheren brought up the issue of being the strongest 'just because', and N brought up the whole...Pokemon battle morality thing.
As for the plot twist, I thought it didn't mean the end of Team Plasma's ideas. They explained that in BW2, with the Team Plasma split.
what I still dont get is where are all the pokemons from generation 2? the one with totodile, cyndaquil and chicorita as starters... The most recent pokemon games have put the pokemons from generation2 aside and i dont understand why :/ many were so cool.
It was because most people had them in their party all the way through the game so the had grown attached to thek

Joi kax Yeah, that's true, I personally like the gen 2 pokemon more than any other so far, but firstly, the Pokemon world wouldn't be so divorced if every region and every game had the same pokemon. Naturally, the newer pokemon would be overshadowed by the old ones and I think that the creators wanted people to get used and like the new ones...
Generation 3 has generation 2 pokemons too. generation 4... well...

(Also, why doesn't anyone care about B2W2? Those games fixed every problem from the first ones. And could be played without experience from BW!)

For me it's the entire game engine, it hurts my eyes, plus the Pokemon felt repetitive and boring
This was a big game and I had a lot to say. It took about two weeks. Most of that time was spent thinking of what to say and playing through the game. Thanks for this comment! Good to see people appreciate the all the work a lot of UA-camrs put into their videos!!
Gen 5> Gen 6> Gen 4> I have not really played the rest but judging from the looks and remakes Gen 3> Gen 2> Gen 1.

Gen 3 (a bit of nostalgia and first Pokemon game)> Gen 2> Gen 6> Gen 5> Gen 4> Gen 1
I know Gen 1 was the first Pokemon game, it's just that there's nothing special about it and it's mainly nostalgia and many people's first Pokemon game.
Gen 4 was too boring and too long. If you played it, you'll see why.
Gen 5 was great, it's just that Gen 6 had better stuff added to it.
Making videos like this must take ages! You have to play the ENTIRE GAME just to get footage. I give you all the props for this an too everybody else who does videos where they play the entire game just to get some clips

I'm really glad you brought up the soul silver polish thing, I find myself going back to soul silver and heart gold more than I play black and white

Kamenashi in your opinion. Some people really enjoyed gen 4. I myself preferred gen 4 to gen 5 (although b2 and w2 were really good in my opinion) but that's just my opinion.

Unlike everyone arguing, I'll let you know three years late that it seems to have been taken down, because it used to be there.
Really loved the opening gag and it's execution, and you articulated a lot about what I love and don't like about B&W.
I honestly feel, based on my personal experience and nostalgia, that the sprite based 2D pokemon games are "pokemon" to me, and a lot of that was lost going into X&Y. I love that B&W pushed the beauty and detail of the overworld this far while retaining the 2D charm.
I would love for future entries in the franchise to have some kind of hybrid with the older feel, even if they insist on it remaining 3D.

What a nice way to say goodbye to Gen 5 of Pokemon, i like the Fact that you are the one that said most of all the improvements that Gen 5 gave to the Pokemon Franchise (you forgot that now poisoned pokemon doesn't lose hp outside of a battle) and o also like that Black2/White2 polished all the glaring issues people had with Black/White, Nice video, Keep the good work.
I have Pokémon Black and White for the Nintendo DS. The first Pokémon DS game I played is Pokémon White, which is good! I've enjoyed it very much! Great video, Jimmy! :)

I reviewed Black and White 2 a year ago
By far my favorite generation, and I thought gen 2 couldn't be topped. But the story, the world, the characters, the atmosphere... it all felt so right, so immersive and so... human. The much needed gameplay improvements like TM's, sped up battles, better online, much faster grinding and so on were just icing on the cake. Music was also awesome.
I feel stupid. I thought Cheren was a girl D: this is so embarrassing D:
i absolutely love gen 5. Black and white are still my favorite games.
It still ticks me off that they introduced Triple Battles, but they never once required you to take part in one, even when they made the Shadow Trio or whatever.

I've decided to not use numerical scores anymore. Seems redundant since I speak my mind clear enough in the video.
Personally I'm not too crazy about the animated sprites. The moving pixels kinda bug my eyes a bit, and since some of the unova pokemon seemed a bit over-designed in my opinion, this was a problem. Not to mention some of the back sprites would sometimes look a bit stretched and warped
Hey Jimmy, did you not give a numbered score to Black and White? You gave Black and White 2 a 9.5 out of 10, and White 2 is one of my favorite games. I want to know how the original 5th gen games stack up, since I skipped then and when dirrectly to White 2.

Gen 5 was my favorite gen, because of the focus was on the story and it was a pretty dang good one too. I loved how it changed the formula and made it so defeating Team Plasma was your goal instead of the Champion. Black 1 and White 1 didn't have any old Pokemon so it forced you to try something new, and I ended up loving the team I used. I just love these games so much.

I've picked up Pokemon Black recently and I really enjoy it! Whilst I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Heart Gold/Soul Silver, it's so much better than Pokemon Diamond Pearl and Platinum, which were the worst in the series IMO.
I wish you could do an LP, but Nintendo have this copyright thing going right?

I never looked at the legendary pokemon themes like that before so what's x and y based around?
I think the overall motif has a lot to do with European culture, history, and folklore. The legendaries themselves are actually based on creatures found in Norse mythos. Xerneas could be any of the stags that appear like Eikþyrnir, the stag of Valhalla, or the four stags that surround the world tree Yggdrasil. Yveltal could either be the Unnamed Eagle that sits on the world tree or Veðrfölnir, the hawk that sits between its eyes. As for Zygarde, it could either be Níðhöggr or the Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent.

Yep, and a lot of fantasy tropes throughout Europe like fairies and magic (in the fantasy sense) tend to lend themselves to Norse myth.
I think Pokemon BW's stopping of the story was where each person would decide for their own
I've played both versions 30 times. I love these games so much. I would make up little stories like I was in a tv show and I remember one time I stayed in the Pokémon center for over an hour having an imaginary argument with one of the NPCs
I did one a year ago! I know a lot of people are knew so I understand why some might not know I did one already but just check and see haha!!

I like how you explained why people hate these games. For a while, I couldn't really get why people would hate the story or the new Pokemon. Especially since I had no problem with either of those (sure, I'm not too fond of Pokemon like Heatmor, Durant, and Conkeldurr, but others like Purrloin and Chandelure are among my top favourites). Also, with regards to post-game content, yeah, these games didn't have much... but then again, neither do X and Y. At least B/W have a whole new half of the region to explore after beating the Champion, whereas all X/Y had was one new city. Plus, they made up for it with LOTS of post-game (like the PWT) and side-game (like Pokestar Studios) content in the sequels.
I totally fell out of love with Pokemon after Pokemon D/P (I think it was because of my age, my friends weren't playing Pokemon any more), I still don't like Gen 4 all that much. I got bored playing HeartGold which surprised me after how much I loved the originals. I got a bit burnt out on Pokemon and thought maybe I was just sick of it, but about a year after Black/White came out I thought what the hell, I'm bored so I'll give it a go. Definitely my favourite games in the series, and I totally agree with what you're saying. Great design decisions and it felt fresh for a change, especially the fact you had to get to know new Pokemon and develop new strategies. Got pretty stuck into X/Y as well, probably my second favourites in the series after B/W, just a shame about the post-game content.
At least they had the White treehollow in B/W 2, although I actually did start to seriously begin training Pokèmon to level 100 in my first copy of White.

I have to say that it was the story line in this game that made Pokemon Black & White my fave. Loved the game from the begining! Black & White 2 was a bit disappointing though...

My biggest issue was just the post game when you battle the E4 and champion and they all went up 20 levels XD it was so irritating just grinding for hours just to get your team in the hall of fame. It really made you work for it lol

Favorite thing about gen 5: the music. Dat metal. Was just spectacular. Gen 6 is excellent in this regard too but oh man the one thing they truly perfected in gen 6 was the music!

Finally! Someone who dont just talk shit about fith gen of Pokemon! The black and white games has meant A LOT to me! Feels so great that someone acually talk nice about it! There are too many people who dont like fith gen just because some pokemon didnt look that great!
10:30 I can see why a lot of people didn't like that and I don't recall being very happy about it myself when I first started but after playing some of White 2, I wish they would've done the same thing with the pokedex as they did in White, there are just too many pokemon I never liked in the first few routes like RIOLU I HATE YOU RIOLU why are there so many baby pokemon? I'm sad that the gym leaders last pokemon theme didn't carry over to X and Y...
(Either that or i havn't been paying attention the past 5 gym battles.)
Generation 5 was the first Pokemon game I played in 7 years, with LeafGreen being the last one I played before, so I didn't really have much grasp on Pokemon at the time I was younger. After I got Black from a friend of mine, I really was sad on how much I missed out on Pokemon. It felt really fun, and even though my favorite reviewer, Ben Croshaw, didn't think much of it, I still found it to be fun...before I got White 2 and put Black down with the other DS games I never play anymore. It's still good, but W2 just had SO MUCH MORE to it! I wouldn't call myself a big Pokefan, since I hate the anime, but I still find fun in finding my favorite Pokemon and beating all that stand before me...if I could just get a Torchic the old fashion way, Nintendo YOU CHEAP WIFI USING CU- *interrupted by random trainer* Aw crap.
trust me. you don't have to get into the anime to be a PokeFan. their are others who hate it too. like me.

The first Pokémon game I cleared, and possibly the best in the series. And regarding to Pokémon design... I think every gen had its poor designed characters (Heck, I find a Trubbish to be more interesting to look at than a Voltorb or a Luvdisc!).
