I'll say this I love your videos man you make me want to have a real conversation. Short story...I'm a white male and I work with someone who has hated white people his whole life (he is a black male) and after finding your videos and hearing that people just need to love and respect each other. Your message hit home with me and I have now been talking to the same man who hated me and we are now best friends. I have so much respect for you and the messages you bring to the table. No one else has made stuff like this hit me to were I could not only understand the message but be able to help me change the hard position me and my now good friend have been able to change. Made respect for you man don't stop sending these messages your changing people's life even if they can't see it. 🤝🤜

Bro, that's beautiful! When I heard White Male, as much as it is hard to live in Utah, I became more compassionate and decided not to engage in certain topics that bring about prolonged build up against white people. Mad respect bro. I'm not going to lie, I still work on it, I mean my roommate always mocks me for being brown and Hispanic, and it is hard, but at the end of the day, at least I'm at a better place. Thank you for sharing my bro.

Lets chat. Im a white dude in Houston. The biggest problem is being ridiculed for trying. Some of us are going to bust our asses to move our perception so that we can transition society so we NEVER have to hear derogatory terms towards our friends and family. We may get it wrong, but help us. This video made me realize even more how my friends of all pigments feel. Its not hard at all to have this discussion if the goal is healing. I will talk to anyone, anytime about this. Much love to all of you.

Its amazing to see these conversations happen. The race issue has been something only hollywood and media have been commenting on. Ive never talked about race with my family or friends. It doesnt matter. This isnt the 1950s and most people where i am (A very diverse rural community in the south) dont talk about race. People are people. Its the crazies on both sides that are the loudest. The regular people need to talk more.

I'm sure not all of it is Tom's opinion. I have think that he asked a lot black folks of different ages how they feel or felt about being black in today's society. As a black Male I can relate to some of these things. But I also think it has to do a lot with where and how you grew up. The good Lord has blessed me to not have had to experience most of this in my life. Great reaction.

Consequence, so right. Kids see the ones that made it, they don't always see the ones didn't. Kids don't see the "role models" that didn't get the cars, the money, the homes, they don't see the ones who died or ended up in jail. And putting the words in songs like this in our conversations will only be beneficial. Kids of a certain age aren't always gonna listen when moms, dads or teachers talk about consequences but they'll listen to the music and hopefully give them another perspective. Well done!! ❤

One thing that is so easily overlooked is the fact that Tom wasn’t saying, “This is how I think black people feel.” He’s saying, “This is how I think I might feel if I was black.” Tom is just a dude who thinks out loud with the loudest voice he can muster, and without giving two shits if a few people hate him for it. I think that, deep down, his haters really envy him. That, or they are just too ignorant to “get” him.

Yo man I just love how everyone has their own story. No one every knows what you have gone through or going through until we stop and talk. We were poor and I grew up in the hood with 3 sisters. I was a young white boy that was never taught race. We didn't have internet or social media back then, we just had each other. All of my friends were black. I was the outcast, but we balled, road the bus, got each others backs, no matter what. 30 + years later we still friends, after talking with them. Man how both sides struggle differently as time passed. It's crazy man, it really is. Your right man, hug it out color blind, that's what I say. Some say damn I'm sorry you had to live poor like that, but I say I was blessed with a human understanding of people, that's something money can't buy. Now I'm 41 and things are good. I've got 7 real friends in this world and 4 are black, but what's crazy is in the summer....I'm darker than they are. Colors change, Humans change, don't let one of your senses blind you from the rest. Live and Love. & Remember - They only thing in life that really matters is what you do for others and leave behind. That's it. Sorry for the long msg, but hey so was the video right? It's important
    God Bless

Perspective is key. I have lived in southern Ohio for 50 years. I travel to St Louis, Baltimore, DC and Cleveland on a monthly basis. The culture, the police “climate” are different in each city. I have 3 places in Baltimore where taxis and Uber’s will not go after dark. I would have had a difficult time understanding why people complain and speak out in certain areas of our country if I had not visited the areas and saw some of the issues myself. My travels over the last 17 years has taught me tolerance and acceptance. I have been watching your channel for 5 months. I came because you were reviewing country music. I stayed because you have exposed me to music I have never heard and may not have without you. Many thanks. 💕

Hey! Just some backstory on me - I'm from the UK so the culture stuff is pretty foreign to me (as slavery etc. isn't really brought up in our politics etc.) but I've seen quite a bit from youtube.
I admire Tom for being able to support both cultures with his previous videos supporting the white race(with straight white male) and this video supporting the black race. It allows Toms fans / viewers to come together and visualise all the different problems that both cultures suffer from / their perspective on topics which may be difficult to discuss without causing conflicts etc.
You just need to take a step back from everything and realise we're all human however, the different races do come with different problems and we should help each other through these and not shun/attack each other for pointing them out. Well that's my two cents on this thanks for reading, keep rockin guys!

I believe the problem is a clash of cultures, but people mistakenly identify our culture problems as race problems, since certain races are more dominant in a particular culture.
Culture is a lifestyle. It has no race. There's people of every color in every culture.
Damn it. I was thinking too deep and forgot where I was going with this. Lol HELP!
Need to take Morgan Freeman's advice and don't talk about it. Acknowledging that we are different based on race, rather than individual, causes people to get heated, feel attacked, feel inferior, feel superior, ect. Just stop acknowledging and discussing that we're different based on race.
As I was kinda getting at earlier: I don't think we're different by race...only by culture. And culture has no race.

Not all black folks have the same experiences, but I bet every black person can relate to more than one of the topics in the song. I think he took everything he’s seen or heard and hit on it. The 3 things 1 can’t relate to might be the 3 someone else relates to the most. It’s deep and it’s entirely true as a whole. If we can’t understand these issues and grow from them what legacy are we leaving for our kids. I’m mixed, black dad white mom. I have a black husband, 2 black daughters and 2 white sons who have a black grand dad. My dad. I look white. My brothers (dad side) black. I’ve been ridiculed and unaccepted, accused of having white guilt if I stand up injustice. Laughed at etc. What’s funny tho, is there’s a lot of ppl like me out here. There’s mixed light bright black folks and mixed dark skinned black folks. Someone with 25% melanin can be darker than someone 75% melanin. So it’s come to my attention it’s not even a race thing as much as a color thing. Being that there’s so many different varieties of people today, by the time I’m a grandmother skin won’t matter as much as love and equality cuz pure races of any kind aren’t thriving so racial hatred should die with it

I like the way you framed the dynamics of Mc Donald's' songs . He offers one perspective; then another. What we do with these perspectives is up to us. I respect him for not trying making a final call and give us a 'truth'... most artists or anyone who can speak into a microphone (even in my profession) just can't resist spelling out their own view in huge letters on the subway walls.. He holds back. That opens a dialogue, as you said... right on. You and Tom are in sync. He held back from lecturing as an artist. He left us with a question.. and you did the same as a commentator. Spot on. Keep it up.

A lot of white people won't understand this at all, but as a white woman who has been married to a black man for 14 years I understand a lot of this. About 12 years ago we were in a small town in Tennessee at a town square dance, we were holding hands and then he leaned down and kissed me (a peck on the lips), a cop literally walked over to us and reprimanded us for the bad example we were setting for the young people who were there!!! Then a couple years ago cops were called to my brother and sis n law house while we were there, it had nothing to do with my husband, but a gun was pulled on him and he was forced to the ground... Its 2019 people, see a persons worth by who they are and what they do, not by the color of their skin!!!!!

    • @UncleRandy73
      @UncleRandy73 4 роки тому +1

That exact thing happened to me recently where I was forced at gun point to the ground, arms twisted, knee in my back all because I looked threatening with my big beard and tattoos. That’s not necessarily racism but usually an overzealous cop, who was probably bullied in school and has some power now. I get treated like I’m a threat and I’m not black.

    • @crystalsmith4919
      @crystalsmith4919 4 роки тому +2

@@UncleRandy73 Oh I for sure agree with you that it happens to all races, but when that happened it was the first time in my life I had seen racism to that degree, there were about 9 white people there including myself my brother and sis n law and my husband was the only black person there... That was the day that I really understood the level of hatred someone could have for a complete stranger. It made me realize that any children we might potentially bring into this world could go through something like that just because they had more pigment in their skin. And you are right people are judged for tattoos and piercings, for their clothes, the way they talk, their size etc. It makes no sense to me, at some point the cycle has to be broken.

I got lightweight emotional at 4:47 when you started talking about respecting each others opinions even if you disagree.
We've all become so tribalistic and embroiled in identity politics lately that we've forgotten how to find common ground. People are so obsessed with "winning" an argument that we've stopped listening to each other.
We think that we won the argument when the other person gives up but in the end everyone leaves angry and we've learned nothing.
The echo chambers of social media have taught us that our opinions are the only truth and the only form of expression now is to call out the other "side" as being wrong.
We don't have to agree on everything and that's okay.

With all do respect there could have been only one crazy son of a gun being able to do something like that.. and that's Tom MacDonald! I think it has an even more powerful message because if a black artist would do a song like that the people would be like "oh another black guy complaining" but with Tom is a whole other story because if we look at him White full with tattoos etc you would never think he would do or feel something like that so it has a stronger impact on people if you know what I mean? I'm white and I keep Rocking with Tom no matter if it's the white or black side I look at both trying to understand the way it feels and trying to truly understand the message reading sometimes behind the lines.. I think it's beautiful what Tom and his girlfriend created so.. Thank You Tom keep doing your Song because that's what People Need.. an artist like you, and thanks for the awesome reaction.
    Peace! ✌️

This is my first time seeing one of your videos and I have to say that this is the best reaction to this song that I have seen so far. You do such a great job of communicating to your audience. I love both of Tom's songs. I felt like the first one was saying not to blindly judge someone based on race, sex, etc and the second song was telling folks to try and understand where other folks are coming from. We are so focused on our own problems and concerns that I do not think we take the time to talk to others with different perspectives to really try and understand what they are going through. Love how you focus on respect, communication, and love.

Slavery was horrible period but, how can we move away from the past if it's continued to constantly be brought up. We've got to move on from the past, fix the present, and continue to move on in the future TOGETHER AS ONE. If history continues to be brought up than we're just going to keep living in the past rather than move forward and make new history. Maybe I wrong but, feel if nobody can move on from atleast that, both races will always and forever be divided and we'll never break barriers and come together.

I agree with you for the most part I do think In some aspects it's brought up so people can talk about it and that allows them to move forward but there are always gonna be the ones that make an old issue new again and no matter what they can't move forward. If Main Stream Media stopped using identity politics for votes in my opinion that would go a long way to people moving forward cause the way MSM uses it just causes division. Once again just my opinion.

Very well said and I agree. I believe Morgan Freedmen said it best in his interview about racism. "If you talk about it, it exists" when asked about racism. ua-cam.com/video/kOiQgleiRtU/v-deo.html
Also when he discussed it on 60 minutes with Black History month. "I'm going to stop calling you a white man and im going to ask that you stop calling me a black man" and his rebuttal to combating racism of "You just stop talking about it".

Why don't Joyner and someone either Adam Calhoun, Upchurch, Tom just someone make a song together and have a real conversation in the song. That's just my opinion, dope reaction man. Keep it up.

im 100% speechless, you make some serious and valid points and speak so much truth. this is my absolute favorite reaction to this video, you went in to so much depth it has me thinking. we all need to show more love and stop with all the hate, we are all human, we all breath the same air and we all bleed the same, skin color should not be used against a person to decide if they are good or bad people the choices they make in life and things they do show if they are good or not. skin color/ race is not the deciding factor.

  • @incubus755
    @incubus755 4 роки тому +6

Key words in this reaction. 'Perspective' and 'discussion'. This is going to piss off alot more closed minded white people than anyone, in the same way that Whiteboy pissed off closed minded people who didn't want to hear that side. Do I agree with everything that was said and with every statement in the song? No. But I have my reasons. The following things I have a slightly different perspective on. If anyone would like me to state my side I will.
    1. Slavery line and hating white people -- Slavery ended way too long ago for this to be an active conversation, in my opinion.
    2. Afraid of getting shot -- I get this due to media but there is more to this subject.
    3. Neighborhood thinks I'm committing crime -- It is sad that this is the case, but statistics sadly support why some people jump to conclusions. I feel you here, this is terrible to go through.
    4. Upset at white rappers -- totally disagree, music is eternal and a way for all people to come together.
    5. 1 in 3 is locked away / dads not in home -- I draw a parallel here, statistics prove people without father in the home are more likely to end up doing crime.
    6. White Privilege -- I feel like this is less a problem than 'wealth privilege'
    7. All the white this white that -- I feel this is slowly removing itself from society.
    8. Hate myself -- Everybody should have pride and believe in themselves.
    9. Racism that caused me to be racist not my fault -- Racism exists but to do the same thing to fight it solves nothing, you are just as at fault as the first person.
    10. N word and circles -- I know this happens, I know there is closet racism I do feel there is a difference in 'a' and 'er'
    11. Klan -- totally agree with this view, but I feel that that ideology is almost gone from society.
    12. Reparations - I could go on and on about this, no one alive owned slaves or was a slave. Would cost more money to try to figure out a fix than to just give everyone regardless of race money.
    13. Teeshirt -- I feel for anyone who dies or gets locked up falsely
    14. Not pay taxes govt persecution -- you dont want to mess with the IRS / I think govt does good and bad for people, it is a mix that can be broken down.
    15. Police -- I don't feel police go out with the intent to kill minorities - I support reprimanding any that do so in bad faith - running from the police and not obeying orders does not help the situation. I was taught to keep my hands in full view and follow orders.
    16. Glorifying the trap - totally agree with this point
    17. Put into ghetto / hiv/ crack -- Govt has done bad in the past, I want to see all people prosper, that this happened sickens me
    18. Hate America -- despite all the bad in the past, America still is a place where anyone, regardless of race, can become something or somebody.
    19. Gentrification -- A subject I don't know a ton about - making an area better is good, but that it affects people who have been there forever is bad. Not sure how to fix this.
    20. All lives matter / BLM -- To me BLM focuses on one aspect - police brutality too much, when numbers wise black on black crime kills way more people. Would like to see them also attacking that. Don't like that innocent police have been killed due to the rhetoric either.
    21. Role Models -- this is a very true thing and needs to be addressed. There are plenty of blacks who aren't promoting bad lifestyles that can be looked up to.
    22. Black Pride / fist -- The movement is a touchy subject due to history.
These are all my opinions, if you would like me to expand on any or give your views I am welcome to listen to them. I have changed my mind on stuff in the past and I am sure I will again. My hope for the black community is that they can get more fathers in the household, not turn to crime to make a buck, strive to better themselves, and build their communities. Also, the constant looking for something to call racism on or cultural appropriation thing is getting old. I am white, I enjoy rap music, I think there are many good things that all cultures can learn from each other to make them all better. Great reaction as always.
I know this is long, but it is also a conversation starter, hope to have someone give me their thoughts and lets all keep it civil and respectful.

The thing that bothers me about today’s outrage culture is the concept that one person from one identity group can’t comment on the perspectives from other identity groups.
If you don’t think I don’t understand your struggles, then you’re wrong. All struggles have common perceptions and emotional anchors. I might not have fully experienced the ills from your view, but I can tell you I’ve felt ostracized and discriminated for who I am, something I could never change.
I know what it’s like being in situations where I know I’m not wanted and I know what it’s like to persevere through those moments in life, despite not fully getting over it for a long time.
I am also blessed to have grown enough as an individual to explain how I did get over it and maybe I could teach you how, if only someone would listen without calling me a racist, privileged, or bigoted.
In the end, the only person holding you back is you through your perceptions. If all you see is your victimhood, then that’s all you’ll ever be to yourself.
I lived most my life as a victim until I decided I wasn’t going to see myself that way anymore. Only then did the world open up to me, because I opened myself up to it’s possibilities. Instead of seeing where it limited my progress, I saw the paths that induced it.
Basically, let go of your grudges and grievances. They do nothing but hold you back and keep you in place. It is the human experience to move on and explore your potential.
The world is nothing but a reflection of yourself. If all you see is hate, then maybe you yourself are perpetuating that view in yourself.
Allow yourself the freedom from assumption of others and you’ll be free to learn about the person in front of you. Maybe you’ll learn something new about you in the process, like it did too.
All the best on your journey. Just remember, you won’t be able to save anybody but yourself, so spend time actually doing what’s best for you and no one else, while keeping in mind that sometimes what’s best for you is also going to lift those that love you most too.
