I'm white I live in a white society. I have worked in a lot of states. West coast. And East Seattle. I live in Utah like seriously I don't see the black community. I do have friends of the black skinned color and they are truly family. In Utah I believe to see other colltures you have to go to sporting events. I feel I should be sorry for this but I'm not. I welcome everyone in my life until I see ugly. I don't play the skin color. Because here we don't see a reason to judge anyone. Or maybe I'm blind. I don't think so but I honestly think I either like you or I don't. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR PIGMENT. JUAT YOUE CHARECTURE. peace

I'll never understand the hate this man gets. There's people black and white that don't like him because they can't get passed certain trigger words then lose focus of the whole message. This even includes A LOT of his fanbase. He makes songs from ALL perspectives. Respect to him for doing it and bringing all views from all sides to the table.

Ill never understand fully how hard life must be for people of color but I promise I'll continue to raise my kids to judge based on character not skin color and hopefully one day it won't be harder for your kids than mine.

Thank you for saying this. I feel the exact same but if I tried to put it onto words I'm sure it wouldn't come off quite right. Praying everyday for people to open there eyes and see people for WHO they are as a whole rather then seeing only what color, race, religion or political stance, they are. I can guarantee 100 the most beautiful, kind, loving giving, soulful caring people I have ever met were not white. They were not american and they were not either on the right or left. Things are going to get ugly soon folks. You think it's bad now? Just you wait. There are very bad, tumultuous times coming. You will want a tight group of people surrounding you. You WILL need them to get through. You will need people of strength and character. You will need people who will fight with you and for you. I would dare to say that this circle will not have many white americans in it. This collective will have those people who have suffered and toiled at the gates of hell already. They know how to push forward struggling, hold on to hope and how through bravery, courage and determination there is a way to escape those gates. The only white Americans I know who fit this description are those veterans who have been to war and made it back home. So for the idiots who continue to puff up and hate people for the least important things about them, looks, gender, how they dress, where they live etc. Just know, those of us who know better, we will win in the end. We will come through one day into a better place a better time the paradise we were meant to live in. You ignorant fools on the other hand will be left behind with those just like you who have no more substance then a crackheads promise. Left to hurt and hate each other. You will be alone because there will be no love there. You will be miserably suffering alone until the end of your time. The rest of us will be surrounded by harmony and tranquility, laughing, dancing, singing and living the lives we humans were meant to live. As the sons and daughters of he who is most high.

Well people need to realize that race doesn’t exist. It never has. It’s been biologically proven. Race is a social construct. Until people can admit race doesn’t exist it will always be around. And all humans have been slaves, every “race” for thousands of years and still exists until this day. And blacks were first enslaved by blacks just like whites were first enslaved by whites and so on and so forth. People need to learn real history

Tom's got a song that talks about his worst fans called "Fake Fans". Not sure if you checked it out yet, but it shows how he feels about fans who have a vision of him that doesn't represent who he really is. Might be a good one to react to if you wanna keep going down the rabbit hole.

I've noticed more and more people typing loudly in peoples comments over the reactors feelings, thoughts or opinions because they claim Tom is this, Tom is that, Tom is something else while missing the entire meaning of his messages and to agree to disagree, find common ground, stop talking over people and their experiences, listen and respect one another and lets unify. This was an amazing reaction!!!

It's funny that Tom says so many things directly and loudly, yet the key (to me, at least) is in the subtlety. This song is a mix of hard truth made obscure with media spin and confusion compounded by individual perception. The hard truth is lived, the media/establishment/government spin is what sows and sells division. As individuals, we can only try to navigate with what we know about ourselves and our immediate "world." Tom is expressing his take on it all. The subtle bit is that he (my take only, I wouldn't really know, now would I!) isn't endorsing any one point of view, only pointing out why it is so hard to get past all of hard truth and spin to whatever is next. We throw it on the table...then what? Aside from actually living the hard truth, there is no way everyone will arrive at the same place. We have to acknowledge the truths, resist the spin and act on all fronts to alter our perception to find something valuable and worthwhile to work toward. Other than that, live your life and "do you proud."

Consider this and I'm not sure if it's entirely true, but the fans like myself get Tom. Hell, I gathered he wasn't a conservative from the song "How The West Was Won" and that was before Dear Rappers. Then he hit another "Left" talking point in "American Dreams"... I'd like to consider myself middle of the road... Consider the ones that comment negatively towards you are probably bots and haters trying to stop his message. Probably don't even listen to his music. How could they? He calls everyone out.

Tom fan here. Thanks for the great reaction. I don't think agreeing with anyone 100% is healthy, that's what got all of us into the situation we are in right now. My interpretation of what he does is to show us that we are all stronger together, and if we can understand that and each other we can get to the real problems. We are being divided by the system and until we can look at each other as brothers and sisters, as fellow Americans, we will never be able to fight back. Until we can put ourselves in each others shoes we will never be united. #HOG

This whole song came out of a hairstyle he saw on a black guy that he would wear if he was black and then started thinking how else his life would be different if he was black and Tada a song was born. Tom's an artist and he tries to show every side whether its If I was black, white trash, Straight white male, white boy, fake woke, cancelled, no lives matter, American dreams, Snowflakes (a favorite of mine) what ever the case Tom is about opening up conversations and I can get behind that. Jay I really enjoy all your reactions, I love that you say whats on your mind I appreciate anyone that can do that and not feel the need to either trash someone else's views or try to ban them.

The biggest reason why I love Tom is because almost all of his songs the main message is coming together. Stop letting nonsense divide us. I'm a 33yr old white guy. I live in a small city with a pretty diverse population. Right across the river is a smaller city with a real bad reputation. 2 days ago I went with my dad to advance auto. (Only place that had rotors for my girls car) as we were walking in there was a black guy coming in behind us. (Maybe 15ft or so behind) so I held the door and waited for him. His reaction was.... I'm trying to think of the right way to say this... his reaction was total disbelief and astonishment. I could see it all over his face. He couldn't believe I held the door open for him. After the astonishment went from his face he said "thanks man" I said of course and went along my business. A short time later in the store he asked me if I ever changed a serpentine belt. I said yeah, then asked how hard it was. Well I ended up waiting for him to check out and we went to help him in the parking lot. Took my dad and I maybe 5 minutes. He couldn't stop thanking us. Tried to give us some cash, even invited us to a bbq. Before we parted he shook my hand and said "I still can't believe you held the door for me, can't remember the last time a white boy did that for me" I laughed and said "yeah I could tell by your face" we had a good laugh then joked about how most people suck. As good as that interaction felt, helping someone out who needed it (no matter the color) I ended up feeling bad. The fact that he was so shocked by my curiosity was just sad. It really shows how divided we really are.

I'm a redheaded white dude so I stay away from utilizing the n word, but I call my black friends ginger because that one, I have exclusive rights for. It usually gets a good laugh the first time and now my friends expect it. An aunt of mine married a black man when I was young and he was a pillar for me when I was young when my father couldn't watch me because of work and he exposed me to his culture at such an early age that I never thought anything about the differences in cultures besides thinking "man, I cant wait to see my uncle Jerome and play video games and barbecue and play chess and dominoes".
He was a martial arts instructor in bjj, a cop for a while, and a volunteer EMT and firefighter. While I certainly knew he looked differently than me, I only ever saw inspiration when I saw him. The first time I ever met him, I had just seen Blade and I thought he was Wesley Snipes, but not because of the racist trope that black people look alike, but because he literally looked exactly like Wes. So much so that he would go to Cons as Blade and blow everyone out of the water lol.

I love Tom’s truth bombs. Great reaction. I sometimes wonder why I taught and raised my kids to be colorblind and to love people because of their insides when the rest of our world is so divided. They are 16 and 14 now and they question why people hate so much. I don’t have an answer for that. I really don’t understand it. What is it that they are so threatened by? I really can’t stand racists and bullies . No one should be judged by their skin color or accent or heritage or religion…… But if there is hope in this world to heal, it will be from children like mine, growing up to be world citizens.

One of the things I like about Tom is that he is willing to try understand other peoples point of view eg. If I Was Black. Greatly appreciated these days when most people would rather hate than try to understand. Also you are right, he is not left or right. For me he is not really about taking sides at all, he is more about understanding others and trying to find a path to unifying people.

There are people who say he's pandering with this song, but I truly believe that he's looking at what life would be like for him if he was a black man. Because of his personality type and just the way he is so outspoken, and as angry as he can get about things, he knows he could end up dead or in prison if his pigment was darker. That isn't pandering, that's empathy, and I respect him for that so much. Love you Jay! FUCK those hard R using m-f*ckers ❤

Hey man i want to start by saying i am joyous that i came across this video. I enjoy a lot of what tom puts out and listening to what people have to say on his videos.
I wish you did have time to dive further into this discussion as you alluded to as i want to better understand the perspectives of those who share a different culture and experience to my own while still being my countryman. I did find what you did say very enlightening in our similarities and differences.
Although i do have my disagreements, perticularly with our conceptualization of race. As Toms music is ment to strike conversation with an aim to solving our problems without bloodshed it would mean a lot to me if you would be willing to hear my story and thoughts.
I grew up in a poor rural town in northern Ohio. My whole family are relatively recent immagrants from Poland, Italy, and Wales (as far as i have been told). It was a nice place in the way simple poor towns can be, however, over the span of a decade it was suburbanized. Huge waves of afluent "white" clevelanders came into our town. They wiped out our businesses, farms, and wildlife and pumped out town full of starbucks, drugstores, and kmarts. The worse part for me as a kid was the takeover of the police and what felt like a persecution against the origional poor inhabitants of our town. I rebelled against this and rejected this gross, frivelous, narcissistic culture that came in. That is when i found hip hop, rap, and punk music. I was astounded that there were others out that as frustrated and angry at the vapic materialistic crap that was all around us by what i would now call yankee and west coast culture.
My girlfriend at the time had gone off to college at youngstown state a year ahead of me and when it was my turn to pick i jumped at the opportunity to go somewhere that had an active culture. Angry and reactionary but alive and not totalizing. I lived in the heart of the south side, and aside from one encounter whn i fist moved in, i proved myself and embraced fully the culture around me. However, it was not conscious to me at the time but i could sense i could not keep up the mcdonalds diet, shootings, drugs, parties, and dealing and make it to old age. When my girlfriend and i broke up i could not afford to keep living there and i had to move in with my parents again. Again looking back it was a gift from God as a few years later my mother would die very young and being there with her was truely a gift.
For the sake of brevity, as i have gotten older i have found myself drifting closer and closer to Appalachia and the blue ridge mountains. They have called to me ever sense i had seen them and i hope to call them my home before i die. The family i have inherited are west virginian and Appalachian culture is where i now belong.
Why all this? As i watch our country fall apart and our currupt elite orchestrate a race war between our nations poorest and forgotten i have spent nearly every waking hour trying to find out why. There are so many threads to pull on, however, relevant to this topic is what has appeared to be about race. It is something that must be addressed and discussed and it must be something that we can respect in others and have pride in oursleves and still see eachother as humans. I have a lot of sympathy for your desire, and rightfully so, to be proud of what makes your people exceptional. I want you to see what is worth emulating in your culture and music and history and to address the problems holding you back, as i do my own. Where i believe that we are all misguided is the frame. We can not build something lasting witout bloodshed and a desire for conquest with scientific, materialist, enlightenment categories like black, brown, and white which were created to justify the very heinous acts that find your people stuck in projects and mine stuck in dying fentanyl stricken mountains. In this country the only races i struggle not to hate are yankees and west coasters as those are the races of our elite. It is their school systems, government organs, police forces, and hatred towards different ways of living that keeps the poor enbroiled in a war against eachother. I see reasons why you are proud of your race, and i am proud of mine. The Appalachian race. For all our faults, for all our mistakes, for our dependence on drugs and dying industry we have a proud history of slugging it out and holding our heads up. We thank God for mecies and glory and have our bluegrass and dance. We have proud strains of standing against slavery and two of the most iconic appalachian states were born out of that protest. However, i would never look at myself as some catch all category of white as i have no idea what it means. I have three races of blood in my veins, none of which have ties to its history until the mafia took hold. I reject the dominant races, but i must belong somewhere or nihilism, cynicism, and death will consume me. So Appalachia is where i find home. The mountains, the music, the way of life, Christ, and my inherited family call me home. I pray that this made some sense and that we can see eachother and have a conversation that works to solve the situation we find ourselves in. I pray that this comes of as genuinely serving the good in all of us. I do not want to see us go the way of nazi germany, soviet russian, maos china.... And we are getting desperately close to that point. I hope to speak with you and i would be honoured to have a conversation with you if you should ever have the time.
I see you truely as my countryman and brother. I pray there was no disrespect and i came off sincere.
God bless and may we all find healing and love for our brothers and sisters in a true way.

This video right here was the turning point for Tom to change distribution companies and I felt like I needed to share this with you because this was the video that he released when he was supposed to release the song because his distribution company was actually holding it hostage and they deemed it inappropriate and offensive and they didn't want to release it so that's about the only thing that I can give you from the time that this video finally saw the light of day was the video that Tom posted on the day that he was supposed to drop this.
    ua-cam.com/video/VIlWElwt0sw/v-deo.html
You also got to remember Tom has the perspective of living in the ghetto he's talked about it time and time again and his song "I Don't Care" and his song "Sellout" and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to "living in the ghetto" and "glorifying the trap" and he even mentioned in his song "Cancelled" about how he "lived in the ghetto, lived in South Central and there's no Caucasians but he loved every single one of his neighbors"
So Tom's perspective on this song If he was black is a life that both him and Nova used to live when they were living in a house that had roaches in the cupboards and they didn't have any food and they literally had to figure out whether or not they were going to eat or pay their rent.
And then later on in the song "Dear Rappers" (and that is one that you have reacted to) off the very album that went viral that made Tom MacDonald who he is now and that was his album: "Deathreats"
I love your reactions Jay and you tell shit how it is and definitely I'm here for your Tom reactions and anything else that you react to because you're one of the real ones.

I'm a euro-Canadian, and the first time I tried watching this video I couldn't do it - it has taken me months to watch it through, and it was here for the first time that I did. I grew up in the 60s/70s and so I was conditioned and sensitized to the history and plight of African Americans and in Canada, the indigenous culture. So I had to do a little bit of research on why he did this song the way he did. I can understand it a little better now by hearing his explanation. Here is what Tom said in a tweet back in 2019:
    "Jul 20, 2019
As a white rapper w/ a largely white fan base...I think it’s important to provide the flip-side of the coin. “Whiteboy” and “Straight White Male” were white perspectives. “If I was Black” is ME imagining MY - ME - MYSELF’S perspective if I were black."

I have watched a LOT of black reactors watch this video. You are probably the most genuine in your take. I find that this song is a tightrope because of the subject matter it exposes the real in someone. You are not an apologist, you are not a closet racist and anyone with half of a brain can see that clear as day. I am sure you are going to do great things if you keep this up. Well done man.

#hangovergang I knew this was going to be one of my favorite reactions of yours when you did this one and I was right. #HOG4LIFE This song hit for me because if one of the reasons you ride with Tom is his drive to speak truth. It doesn't matter if you did or didn't live the experiences of others for their to be truth to their POV. You talked about the line of driving a car and being pulled by police. Your POV of why it's hard may be different from my POV on why it would be hard for me, either way it's not a contest. We should unite and demand better when it comes to the job we are paying for when it comes to protect and serve.

I went looking for people upset by this song when it came out. I only found 1 instance of some black guys who reacted and liked it, then took the reaction down and put out a diss track themselves. I think they called it If you were black. There have been a couple other reactors who were pretty uncomfortable, but no outright hate. I love this song, it's one of my favorites. I have no shame, I sing along with the windows open.

I am glad I not the only one that noticed that guy was the teacher in White Boy! OMG....Keyboard Gangsters: Now there is an idea for a shirt man!
I think that these days...a LOT of people confuse racism with prejudice. Everyone has prejudices, but not everyone is racist. Sadly, a LOT of racist words and slurs found their way into the popular vernacular: I know a lot of people that used the slur names for other races, but not in a hateful way if that makes sense. Mostly, those things were not said to the person's face unless they were a friend and then....the insult wars were hilarious at times.
Folks didn't used to be so hypersensitive about words. Yes, some are just completely disrespectful and shouldn't be used, but I'll be damned if I am going to walk around censoring every thing I think and eventually say in order to protect the fragile sensibilities of thin skinned people. Dude...I am 6'0 tall and was this tall by 7th grade. In my senior yearbook they put our nicknames under our photos and mine was Amazon. I also was on the track and field team and did shot put and discus because my coordination sucked at hurdles and I preferred to not die from clumsiness.T HAT led to the three girls who were top on the team acquiring new nicknames: The Kong Sisters. They used a version of our first name with Kong as our last names. Best way to not be upset was to own it and roll with it. My husband's family is Spanish, but everyone called them Mexicans and he feels the same as I do.
Personally, I don't care what color you are....I deal with everyone as a blank book and allow them to fill in the pages with their own story. If the story goes South and turns into crap (after multiple pages, not just a paragraph)...then I close the book and walk away from them and they are branded with my label for that type of person, which is asshole.
I feel EXACTLY like you do about the people that claim to be Tom's fans who attack people who dislike him: As Tom calls them....they are Fake Fans. Now, there are some people outright hating that are obvious trolls just talking crap that deserve what they get: I leveled my sarcasm bazooka at one the other day. However, the reactors that don't like his music or disagree with something he says? I mean that is half the point of some of the things Tom puts into the songs....to GET people to disagree and discuss WHY they disagree. People that don't respect different opinions and want total conformity remind me of the future people of San Angeles in Demolition Man: Have a joy joy day citizen: BORING! Personally, the entire Lemming mentality has always astonished me; jump in a pack, run with them....right over the edge of a cliff. Nope. I will stand off to the side, see the idiocy and then get away from those sort of people with great haste. He has stated more than once that he wants people to either LOVE or HATE him; everything in between he considers a failure.
Anyway, the hubs and I LOVE your channel: You are by far his favorite reactor and in my top three! Much love to you sir!
