As a 11 or 12 year old Lutheran girl, I was fascinated by Bishop Sheen on TV, and his teachings which made sense to me. I will be 81 years old soon and am now Catholic and still hang onto his words. Blessed Bishop Sheen, pray for me.🙏🙏✝️✝️
As a 9 year child in a Protestant family, I was enthralled watching Bishop Sheen on TV. Now a few decades later, I was confirmed into the Catholic Church. Still love Bishop Sheen and his homilies.
I'm a millennial Catholic revert. And it's been so fascinating discovering this man here on UA-cam. I can see why he was so beloved and famous. I've really loved watching all his videos and lessons. They've been so enlightening and educational and on so many things I couldn't agree with him more.
Good for you brother. Bishop Fulton Sheen's words are timeless gems of truth that edify and sanctify us. May God bring us more as him who ignite souls and bring is into a deeper connection with our Lord.
Church pastors need to listen to this man's words and preach these ideas to their congregants. We're tired of these current culture ways which are destroying our families and nation.
I am the last member of my family who practices the Catholic faith. After father’s funeral, I decided to read more good Catholic literature, theology, and podcasts. It brings peace and sanity to my day….. God’s speed to all
In fact the church has changed its teachings on numerous things. Priests were allowed to marry in the first 900 years of the church and the church condoned slavery at least up to 1866 when Pope Pius IX affirmed that it was not against divine law for a slave to be bought, sold, or exchanged (even after many European countries with secular governments banned slavery decades earlier). The fact is that ALL religions change over time in beliefs and practices. The Catholic Church is no different.
@thewb8329 The issue of marriage for Priests is not an explicit Bible/Divine law. 1 Corinthians 7 Saint Paul says it is better not to marry, not that Priests cannot marry. The Bible/Divine law has never condoned chattel slavery. Exodus 21:16 Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death. The Catholic Church had repeatedly condemned slavery. In the medieval period, the only ‘acceptable’ form of slavery was that of POWs taken in a just war, and those only for a time. It is true that some Catholics or nations that were nominally Catholic profited from the transatlantic slave trade, and one could argue that the condemnations thereof were not strong enough, or that there was inconsistent reception of and application of Church teaching on slavery as even some individual bishops or religious orders owned slaves at one point, but it would be hard to ignore the repeated and powerful condemnations of slavery, and the treatment of slaves, over all, that came from popes and councils. One of the earliest condemnations of enslaving Africans specifically dates to 1435. A papal bull in 1537 makes what sounds an awful lot like an infallible condemnation of slavery, and even calls the ideas that non-Christians can be enslaved or even deprived of their property a “lie perpetuated by Satan”. Over ensuing centuries of the Atlantic slave trade, popes repeated the condemnation multiple times. Often, during the age of exploration, we find the Catholic Church and its missionaries working with, fighting for, and trying to protect indigenous peoples against slavery and exploitation by the secular conquistadors and traders who were often their fellow countrymen. Of course, the church today condemns unfettered capitalism, abortion, death penalty, and arms production, but you can find plenty of Catholics, including Catholic politicians and wealthy businessmen, who ignore or dissent from such teaching, so not surprising to find this has always been the case. People have free will, after all.
@@SK-fp4ed I guess you missed Leviticus 25:44-46. “Your male and female slaves are to come from nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.” If you realize that the Bibles is just a piece of literature that reflects cultural attitudes and practices at the time then you don’t have to make excuses for it. Even in Judaism, the story of Moses and the exodus is explained to be just a story where as in Christianity it’s still claimed to be a historical event
@@SK-fp4ed Regarding marriage for priests, the church developed its own traditions in addition to the Bible that they consider Devine law and dogma so referring to Bible verses is irrelevant. By Vatican accounts 33-40% of priest identity as gay or “same sex orientation “. (not that there is anything wrong with that) These rates may be so high due to sexually repressed priest joining to try to control their sex drive. That why scandals like groups of gay cardinals having sex orgies with young male escorts are a thing. The policy also probably brought about the culture of sexual predators molesting alter boys that probably existed for hundreds of years which church leadership covered up and empowered and was only stopped by secular institutions.
The Bible makes clear distinctions regarding slavery. There were slaves/prisoners of war. There were indentured slaves because the ancient world did not have a sophisticated banking system like we have now. Do you have debt? Then you would be a modern indentured slave to the banking system. There are many verses in the Bible about not owing debt, and you have debt , so it must be paid. The Bible is clear that kidnapping and selling someone as a slave for profit is evil. In fact, that is why it was Christians that abolished the slave trade in England and abolished chattel slavery in the USA.
My grandfather and father walked several miles to see Bishop Sheen and neither one of them was religious. That’s how powerful he was back then. Pretty much like Billy Graham!

The fullness of Life, of Truth and of Love are only present in the Mass. The Saint Joseph Baltimore Catechism No. 1 in chapter 27 explains the Sacrifice of the Mass. It quotes Luke 2:14-15,19-20 and proceeds to explain it. A Sacrifice is a gift to God. The Mass is a sacrifice. The Mass is a Reminder. The Mass is a Ceremony. The Mass is a sign of our love united with the love of Christ in giving ourselves to the Father. It is the same as the Cross - Christ’s act of love. It is the same as the resurrection - the Father’s acceptance. if we would return to this simple explanation given to children perhaps we, the Church, would be entering more fully into the part each one of us plays in the reconciliation of God and the world.
The Mass is not only a reminder of Jesus’s words at the last Supper. Truly, it is the sacrifice on the alter where Christ comes down, through His Minister’s hands, His Body, His Blood, His Soul and His Divinity! He feed us and fulfills His promise! Blessed be the Lord! All praise, glory and thanksgiving to Him❣️☘️🙏🏻
