Fascinating film Khun Jaem. I’ve been in Thailand a while now and the things you’ve explained make perfect sense. I’ll be watching more going forward. Your grasp of the English language is excellent. Best wishes from me here in Bang Saray.
i’ve never deeply thought about this the hierarchy prevents boundaries-i’m often spouting to my thai friends that they need to set better boundaries, but it may be culturally “impossible” or at least put them at risk. good insight. also-gossip is power 😅
This comment really encapsulates this whole topic really well! Yeah you know I didn’t even plan to talk about boundaries when I was preparing for this ep but then I just had this epiphany while recording it that it’s a lot about how people can get angry and resentful when they let other people walk all over them. Thanks for watching!!!!
Love the content but ... I elect to make a comment about your shirt this time. It's amazing! Can i borrow it? You have such a great taste in clothes, and colour matching!!
You've explained that very sensitively and kindly towards other cultures. Sooo much to say on this too based on my own experiences in the UK and in Thailand, as well as working in and with other cultures. Great discussion topic ☆
Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughtful comment! It's really encouraging for me to hear it. I will produce more content like this one in future, for sure.
Very meta to be venting about people venting 😜 As a fellow freelancer, I always hear both Thais and foreigners say the same things. On occasions anyone complains about the behaviours of Thai people, it's always colleagues, a facet of Thai life I don't get to see.
Haha love that you pointed out the metaness! And yeah that’s the good point of being a freelancer indeed- we avoid the drama! But at the same time we also miss the real local and people experiences!
If you are a tourist in Thailand, and your only interactions are with people in the tourist trades, or the shopping stalls or markets, it would seem that they are all happy. But just turn on Amarin TV or Thairath, or any local newscast, and watch some of the stuff that actually goes down in Thailand that tourists don't see because they never watch Thai TV, and you will see that Thai people are angry just like all around the world. Lots of fights and disputes, yelling, etc. Or just watch any Thai lakorn or other TV series and there are angry people just like in the rest of the world. So mostly it is a tourist perception that all Thai people never get angry.
Great commentary on a topic that needs to be addressed. And yes, sometimes it already helps just to be aware of it. No need to forcefully assign a therapist for each Thai individual haha. / I wonder if the strong gossip culture is perhaps one reason why Thais abroad don't form stronger communities. Gossip culture makes it so unsafe to be with other Thais. / Thinking about this, I wonder how Thais manage to be so super friendly towards tourist and not so much to each other lol. (Again, social hierarchy is the answer to that question.)
I heard the complaints from some Thai about the toxicity about the gossiping culture among groups of Thai abroad. I also heard that a lot of people really survived and thrived because of the group as well. But it seems true that most complaints is about being gossiped and judged by the rest of the community. Wait so it’s true that Thais abroad don’t form stronger communities. It must be true in the case of Hamburg/ Germany j. Your opinion?
Hmm I can’t really answer whether there are many Thais that are friendlier to tourists than Thais themselves. I think there’s always intersectionality with race, age, gender and social statuses (or the perception of it). I do think most Thai in general are very friendly with other Thais but with of course some social hierarchy hang ups
@@RickSancheZ-jc6zr Hi, thanks for watching. I think you can start by determining which city you want to live in. Moving with 5 small dogs can be tricky but it can be done. I have no experience moving with pets so I can't offer you thoughts on that but when it comes to accommodation. I think you could real estate agents of the city you want to move to. Facebook can also be useful, there are many groups out there to help support expats moving and living to Thailand. I live in Chiang Mai and I saw many posting what they're looking on in this group for example facebook.com/groups/305471632885249
I'm from India, and I recently traveled to Thailand. The people there are incredible, very hospitable, and deeply culturally inclined.
Glad to hear you had such a lovely experience!
