- This demonstrates using a heat press on pink dahlia flowers and leaves. They make a great pattern and turn out nice and colorful. I used watercolor paper - I think 140#, that has been dipped in alum water www.youtube.co... and left to dry first.
This video • Eco Printing Reveal an... goes in detail about all the methods I used in 2018 and if you jump to the 43:00 minute mark I go into methods and treating paper:-)

LOL, agree! Actually, I like both options. Thanks for watching, Em
Just subscribed OMG!!! It’s stunning and amazing going to try it I’m hooked.
I am in my very late 70's and have nothing left , pretty much, but time to play. I even try to make my work into some kind of play. (We are using a hydronic splitter to split the wood from a beloved Oak that fell last Jan.) I want to help it get the chance to bring warmth to someone in need. That makes my life a little easier. They say, "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." . I wanted to be a Nurse. I never had to work at it, no matter how bad others thought it was. I loved helping people.
YOU do something that brings joy and beauty into people's lives. Have you ever imagined the reaction someone has when they open one of your offerings and behold what your God given gift had created? What about the one who sees it and must posess it for themselves?
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever." Joy is a very rare type of happiness in today's world.. If we can impart this gift with a beautiful picture or a simple back rub, then we have the rare talent of gifting this kind of love ❤ into the world 🌎 world, and sharing our talents is a ❤ love gift you know. You share your gift by You Tube, and we pass it on in the small gifts we give.
I enjoy your videos. They bring joy to me. It's fun to watch the creative process. I'm thinking I will branch out and plant a few new kinds of flowers next summer and try your techniques next year. Thanks for your contributing to make my world a little brighter.
If you have a few simple suggestions for types of flowers. I have Hydrengea, Snapdragons Periwinkles, Borgia, Johnny jump ups, and Nastirshims ( I don't know how to spell those,) and acres and acres of Buttercups. I have acrage and you just cannot kill that stuff of. If you don't have time I understand.
HI, Such a lovely story - thank you for sharing. I too love what I do and appreciate all your kind words, Em
Good work 👍
will this technic work with garments?
Beautiful
Fantastic channel!
Very inspired. Thank you for sharing
Amazing xcellent
I absolutely LOVE all of your videos. Particularly this one. I have done some printing on silk and cotton this weekend, by boiling and steaming, and I looking at trying the ironing method. I must say Dahlia`s is my next experiment. Curious, what do you use all these Beautiful papers for? Apart from journals? Have you ever tried copper sulphate\acetate as a mordant? Im looking forward to lots of experimenting with different fibres and botanicals.. Looking forward to your next video, as Im working my way through them. Thank you for explaining things that work and dont work so well. I always listen with intrigue! you are most inspiring! Sandy x
Hi, appreciate the nice comments. I have only used alum for the mordant and have been happy with that so trying to keep it simple:-) I use them for journals, wall decor, greeting cards and backgrounds for pressed flowers. I have also occasionally sold some paper packs on my Etsy shop. Thanks for watching, Em
Love did you show these after the papers were washed
Hi Maxine, I did a fairly detailed reveal video here ua-cam.com/video/BIIwc27vsuM/v-deo.html. I am not sure if these specific ones were included, but I think so. Scrub along the timeline to see if you find anything interesting. Thank you for watching.
Can i use iron except this machine. Bcause its not available
That's so beautiful. Where's the video that you talked about how you treated the paper before adding the flowers? Please. Well done, I loved the results. 😀🙆👏👏
Hi, appreciate the kind words. This video ua-cam.com/video/BIIwc27vsuM/v-deo.html goes in detail about all the methods I used in 2018 and if you jump to the 43:00 minute mark I go into methods and treating paper:-)
Its beautiful 👌😍💚😍
Beautiful. Tfs.
I find it interesting the red petals created yellow transfers
Hi, Yes you never know what the actual result will be. One of the things that makes it so fascinating. Thanks for watching!
Has to do with how the pigments interact with the substrates. remember that the color of an object is what wavelength of light it reflects. the flower petals have a cellular structure unlike that of paper, so light refracts differently.
Amazing!
Very interesting!
I'm wondering what kind of leaves you used with the Dahlia's
Hi, I use dahlia leaves. Not always from the same plant, but usually. Thank you for watching, Em
@@emsplace I didn't get great results with the Dahlia leaves but the flowers were amazing
Waao so beautiful
Thank you so much:-) Appreciate you watching, Em
This is so awesome ... It's like a sugar or coffee fix..only healthier and much more engaging! I will be trying this out on some bought flowers 💐💐💐, I have several types of paper and an iron just for crafting! Thank you for posting!
I can't use the other ways as I don't have room
Where did you get that machine? I’d love to have it!
Hi, sorry for my delayed response. I purchased the heat press from Pro World 10 +\- years ago. Now days there are a lot of heat presses available for a much better price than back then. An internet search will provide a number of sources. Just be sure to read the reviews.
So far I am happy with mine, however haven't used it too much yet. But when I do, it gets lots of abuse as you can see in the videos on eco steaming. This has a 15" x 15" bed size. It is a Fancier brand, but I don't see where Pro World has that brand anymore.
Beautiful job. How long does the color last on the paper or how do you protect it?
Hi Maria, like pressed flowers it depends upon the botanical. Many will last years while others will fade faster. When put in a journal they will last much longer, since sunlight and UV rays is the real problem. I do spray with a UV resistant spray first. I like the 2X brand by Rust-Oleum in clear:-)
Nice movie!
Amezing
Thank you! beautiful work and so grateful for your explanations. I am new to this. How do you create alum water? Thanks again!!!
Hi Carola, check out this video and see if it helps ua-cam.com/video/Gm8es6TZktc/v-deo.html
Thank you for asking and for watching, Em
hello there! i am amazed by your work. Could you please tell me what is the brown material you put it with the papers and what is the weight of the watercolor paper _you say it but i couldnt understand somehow_ thank you very much in advanced!
Its a teflon paper.. usually used on baking.. cmiiw
Hi Muge, sorry for the delayed response. it is watercolor paper - I think 140#, that has been dipped in alum water ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=Gm8es6TZktc&ar=1576256072041 and left to dry first:-)
Fantastic
Stumbled on your video when looking for ways to preserve dahlias. w/out pulverizing them? Anyway to preserve them w/out pulverizing them? Thank you. ps are those arm warmers you are wearing??
I have had some dahlias heads make through traditional pressing but it is hit or miss. Have not tried pressing them with the microwave yet. Also could try drying them in silica gel. Not sure what else to try. The individual petals will dry really nice in a regular press. LOL, yes those are arm warmers.
Thank you for your quick reply! I am a newbie to all of this so what would traditional pressing be? And no idea what microwave pressing or silica gel drying . The dahlias are my mom's that she planted every year and she passed in April so I am eager to do this soon. I really appreciate your help you do beautiful work !! I think I need arm warmers too lol
Just pick off the dahlia petals. Leave them to air dry in place with good air circulation like a sieve. Jush them up every few days to staop them rotting. When dry they will hold their colour for years. You can use them for dyeing or printing at any point after them. Keep them in a sealed jar and label it.
Looks like a lot of repete pressing, but the end results are worth it.
Hi June, yes the process is time consuming. I find the boiled/steamed/cooked method to also be time consuming. Well even the iron takes time. Heck, eco printing is a time suck, LOL. The method I use just depends upon how many I want to do, how much time I have and what I am in the mood for. Thank you for watching, Em
I don’t get why you need to flip it if both sides are heated
Hi, only the top is heated. Thank you for watching, Em
Hello, can you tell me the machine name please 🙏 🙂
جميل جداً انت مبدعه 👍👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇸🇦🧕
Wowwww!!!
Can you do this with a Cricket Easy Press
Hi, I have researched what a Cricket Easy Press is several months back as I thought about purchasing one. I don't know why it wouldn't work if it can get hot enough, say around 350 degrees or so. However, they seem much more expensive than an iron and eco printing can get messy. Other considerations my be how it holds up to this process and how easy is it to clean. Starting on something smaller or thinner first would be my suggestion. If you do, post a reply as others may also be interested in the results and have the same question:-)
This is gorgeous but I will try with an iron.....
Hi, yes give the iron a try. I did a video where I tested out a household iron you may be interested in ua-cam.com/video/QR7_OpzPy4U/v-deo.html
What kind of vinegar water is it?!
Hi, it is just about 20 to 25% vinegar to the rest tap water. Not a critical measurement. Thanks for watching:-)
Was the paper wet before you started? I mean, before the you squirted with vinegar
Hi, yes. While I alum the paper as a separate process most of the time (and I have videos in the eco printing playlist that goes into detail), I do wet the paper before I add the botanicals with water and/or vinegar water. Wet both sides of any paper used since it is the moisture that helps leach out the colors. Appreciate the comment:-)
what temperature is it ?
HI, Can't remember for sure, but I think around 300 to 325 in degrees. Thanks for watching, Em
What is the first paper/material you used?
Hi Wanda, it is watercolor paper - I think 140#, that has been dipped in alum water ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=Gm8es6TZktc&ar=1576256072041 and left to dry first:-)

could I use an iron?
Yes, I have a video about that here ua-cam.com/video/ZzLGV9hTddo/v-deo.html
Thanks for viewing, Em
what are the best types of leaves for eco printing? I can't find any that work for me. I live in las vegas though.
Hi, good question. The climate in Vegas is totally different than the Oregon coast, so i don't really know what grows there to recommend. Perhaps others reading this that live in a more desert type of area will be able to provide some ideas. I would just do some small scale tests to see what happens and enjoy the experience. Thanks for watching, Em
Check with a local florist for their offcuts...
Will the colors fade?
I try and use botanicals I think will hold color well. If kept out of direct sunlight they can last a reasonable amount of time. They will fade or mellow over time just like may things. Even fabric, watercolors and other things fade over time - especially when kept in the sun. Thank you for watching:-)
Put damp felt under and on the top and steam for 4 or 5 min. You wouldn't need to spray it so many times.
Hi, great idea. I will give it a try. Thanks for watching, Em
👏👏👏👏😍😍😍
Не досмотрела,терпения не хватило.Сорри.
It's not ecological any more if you don't use natural methods 🙄
Nonsense. This is science and exploration using botanicals. Steam is nature - like using an iron. Alum is nature. People are nature. Hot water is nature. Grow up
